Do You Sleep? Lyrics
do you sleep do you count sheep anymore?
do you sleep anymore?
do you fall gracefully into bed anymore?
I saw you as you walked across my room
you looked out the window -- you looked at the moon
and you sat on the corner of my bed and you smoked with the ghost in the back of my head
if i ever see you again
i don't know and i don't care
if i ever will be there
do you sleep do you keep me anymore?
you kick my foot under the table
i kick you back can't say that i'm able
to stand for you or fall for you ever again
wishing that i am letting you
take me where you want me all over again
you can't give yourself
absolutely to someone else
if i ever will see you again
i don't know and i don't care
if i ever will be there
you looked out the window -- you looked at the moon
and you sat on the corner of my bed
and you smoked with the ghost in the back of my head
do you sleep do you count sheep anymore?
do you sleep anymore?
and i don't care (do you sleep do you count sheep anymore?)
if i ever will be there (do you sleep anymore?)
will be there

She never uses a single pronoun - how do we know she is reffering to a man.... hmmmm? She could be talking about a girl

Quote from Lisa Loeb:
"There's this dual emotional thing. Half is when you're that involved with somebody -- you eat, sleep, and breathe the person: the other half is when the relationship is over -- on the one hand you're still longing for this person to want you the same way, but on the other hand you don't ever want to see them again. This song explores the full range of emotions you go through in and after a relationship."

i love this song... i think she's moving on, but still wondering in the back of her mind what he's thinking and doing.. how he's living his life without her.

I agree... esp with the line about "and you smoked with the ghost in the back of my head" .. I thought that was her memory of him/their relationship... awesome song though :-)

Yeah I think this song is about a relationship ending and the other person wondering if they still think about them.

the quote from Lisa couldn't be any more correct. it's how i've always felt about it

I can relate to this song so much, Lisa Loeb manages to tune into the exact emotions you feel when a relationship that has been your life for a long time is over.

I always thought this was about loving a man with a cocaine problem. "Do you sleep? Do you eat?" Signs of a drug addict. She's realized there's no changing him because there's deeper issues there. She's given up on him. It could also be about just loving a jerk, and realizing he's a bad person, and it's time to move on.

Do you still have feelings for me? I don't care if you really do or don't (but I really do). I have mixed feelings. I don't like you. But I do love you (against my will). I wish I could let go and give myself to you, but I can't because you're a player. You're afraid to commit, so I'm just going to be cool to you or else I'm going to get hurt. One thing I won't do again is trust you or show my feelings. These feelings.
