OK, first of all, part of the lyrics is wrong. It's "You and your letters that go on forever." Not "are gone forever." I love this song so much. I'm not gonna go into an analysis what it means to me, cuz basically this could relate to anyone for several different situations.
this song is amazingly theraputic to sing along to when you are feeling emotional... its so pretty
omg.. i think this song is great... its slightly sad but i listen to it when i'm sad or whenever so it fits.. heh i love lisa loeb. i think shes a great writer and singer..... yay. =)

Great song.
Quote from Lisa Loeb:
"How is a song sort of about being under a microscope, and also the people holding the microscope. About working so hard for something, letting people examine me close up to find they're more interested in their own preconceptions than in finding out who I really am. The song was originally used in the movie "Twister.""
wonderful song. i first heard it in twister and it fit perfectly.
i love this song, her voice is amazing
i kinda take this part:
With all the things that you could be, you never could learn how to be me. And now you want to ask me how.
as talking about ppl who are so concerned with my life and my drama and how ridiculous it is because they could be so many things and im sure have such great talents and skills but all they do is talk shit and concentrate on other ppls lives that they dont even realize their own capabilities and thats kinda sad that they have to ruin other ppls lives just to make theirs have a purpose...high school gossip...it makes me sad
I first heard this song on Buffy and then on Dawson’s Creek. It has so much meaning and can be related to different situations.
To me, the song is about having loved someone who didn’t appreciate you at the right time. Later on, when you moved on, that person finally decides to notice you. That’s why she says “I didn’t come this far for you to make it hard on me”.
At the end when she mentions, “Of all the things that you could be, you never could learn how t o be me, and now you want to ask me… how”, means that whoever she’s singing to will never understand her or keep up with her feelings… so eventually he’s left bemused…
