Partly owned tuder house
Wooden white picket fence
Mother waits for father
In a backless dress
Hardly used a diaphram
Put back into its case
A one way trip down memory lane
As she awaits
I don't want to know
Cheat me

I don't want to know
Children play in the yard
Mother stares at the wall
Father says he's gonna be back late
So don't wait up
About a quater to 3
Father stares at the wall
Stained thicker than water
Who's gonna clean it up

lyrically i think this is the best song fat mike ever wrote. it sticks a cruel twist on the mythic suburban white picket fence life. It is a bent version of the 1950s sitcom.

This song is about a couple that have been married for a while, the wife wanted to do something romantic, but her husband who cheats on her, comes home late from being out all night with his mistress. He came home to find that after a long night of thinking about her life, she had shot herself in the head while wearing her most seductive dress. The housewife is no longer around, who's gonna clean up the mess? Such a great sad song, one of Mike's finest

yeah i agree with met the decline.i don't think it's the dad that shoots himself. the mother wants to spend time with the father (waiting in a backless dress), but never does (hardly used diaphragm). she knows he's cheating on her, but pretends like nothing happens, (i don't wanna know, cheat me). finally, when the father comes back (about a quarter to 3) and he finds that his wife has killed herself (stained thicker than water).

i'm with kamikaze fool. this song is awesome. although it may be obvious, i'm going to go ahead and give my interpretation of the song. seems to be a relationship falling apart. i'm guessing "father" shoots himself, judging by a wall stained "thicker than water." i guess slashed wrists could leave a wall bloody, but a self inflicted gun shot wound seems a bit more likely. "i don't want to know, cheat me" seems to be an ignorance is bliss line. the writer would rather be cheated with a happy family image than see that it is falling apart. yeah. i'm a moron.

i think decline and thankgoditsmonday's right... english isn't my mothers thoung but when i looked up Diaphragm i suposed it has something to do with sex (?), but it's hardly used so the relationshpit can't be that good.. at first i didn't think the song was that deep.. but now i can almoast se it when i close my eyes, the children is playing in the yard, and the mother just stairing to the wall, she know's that he's lying about why he's beeing late, she don't want that life so she shots herself..sad

Your diaphram is the muscle beneath your lungs that you use to breathe

Hardly used diaphram = Not much physical activity?

diaphram is a contraceptive. ie. like the condom for but for women. So yeah, she wasnt having any sex with her husband.

I dont know, but this song sounds alot like something nirvana would do, at least the first half because it goes really fast. Even fat mikes sounds abit like kurt (as close as he can i guess) when hes singing slow, but then again i dont like nirvana and i love this song.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
