so will this be the last time
or will you come and break my heart again
every time you feel the need I'm always there for you
and when you've had enough, you go you're own way
have you ever stopped to think about the way I feel
why won't you open your eyes
look what's happened to us
I'm never right, you're never wrong
all I am is a burden to you

I've written so many different words to you
but they all say the same thing
I want to let go of your memory
but I remember every time you (hurt me)

I tried to blow off every hurtful word
I wonder if you even have a heart
and I gave you the best of me
but you wouldn't let me near your heart

I gave you the best of me

I've written so many different words to you
but they all say the same thing
I want to let go of your memory
but I remember every time you hurt me

this song is incredible. I think the bass guitar sound at 2mins 13 sounds refreshing in this kind of music. Almost an uplifting kind of noise. Or maybe i'm just dumb?

But this song has so many different sounding parts.

Love is Red stand out from the rest. I just wish the lyrics were more of an agressive style.

But ya can't have everything eh? :P

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
