"Chasing the dragon" is a method of partaking in heroin or opium wherein the user places the drug upon foil and users a lighter to heat it. It turns into a sticky liquid that moves around like a Chinese dragon". I do NOT do drugs, nor have I ever taken heroin or opium, but I thought the term sounded cool and it was this (as well as "dragon" being synonymous with "the devil") and scenes from the film From Hell that inspired the lyrics. One time performing live I accidentally started rapping the second verse first and being an amateur stopped the set to start the song again. |

This song is simply a result of depression, stress, anxiety, and just being a lyricist trying to manifest one's feelings into art. But, as with the rest of the songs from my EP, "The Darkling Plain", there are references to Greek mythology. "Child of time, mother of all" - This refers to the actual cosmological concept of Chaos, the void state preceding the creation of the universe. In Hesiod's Theogony, Chaos was the first thing to exist, predating the gods themselves, hence the term "Mother of All". "Guided by the Oneirai" - The Oneiroi were primordial deities, children of Nyx (night), and taking the form of black-winged daemons were the personifications of dreams. Morpheus- god of dreams. Moirai- the Fates. Nyx- the primordial deity and personification of night. Erebus- the primordial deity and personification of darkness, and husband to Nyx. |

In analytical psychology, the shadow is either an unconscious aspect of the personality that the conscious ego does not identify in itself, or the entirety of the unconscious, i.e., everything of which a person is not fully conscious. In short, the shadow is the unknown side. The Jungian shadow can include everything outside the light of consciousness and may be positive or negative, but because one tends to reject or remain ignorant of the least desirable aspects of one's personality, the shadow is largely negative. |

"Mother bestow order"- this is a reference to Gaia, one of the Greek primordial deities who was the personification of the Earth and the ancestral mother of all life. Morpheus- god of sleep. "From high upon the mount we hear the proclamation Everything we need to know Written in stone to avoid a planetary devastation..." -A reference to the reading of the ten commandments. "Once wasn't good enough; fool the author twice" -A reference to the Abrahamic god who wiped out humanity once with the biblical flood "Fly into a TANGENT, settle into a self-contained corruption of time and space replaying its altered states for nobody's enjoyment" - A reference to the plot of Donnie Darko, which inspired this song. Another main inspiration was Dreams, so read into the lyrics what you will. |

My EP, "The Darkling Plain", was inspired heavily by Greek mythology. All words/terms below are derived from it. APEIRON is an ancient Greek word & cosmological concept meaning "(that which is) unlimited," "boundless", "infinite", or "indefinite", and "without end", "limit" or "boundary". This eternal space perpetually yields fresh materials; all matter derives from and it is where all matter will eventually return. "MOTHER OF ALL"- as in the song "Chaos" from the same EP, this refers to the cosmological concept of Chaos, the void state preceding the creation of the universe. In Hesiod's Theogony, Chaos was the first thing to exist, predating the gods themselves, hence the term "Mother of All". MORPHEUS- the god of sleep. PTERRIPUS- a winged horse, often replaced incorrectly by "Pegasus", which is the name of a particular pterripus famous in Greek mythology. ELYSIAN FIELDS- the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous. LITHE- was one of the five rivers of the underworld of Hades. All those who drank from it experienced complete forgetfulness. |
