I think what impacted Enya the most about the Latin inscription on the home was its sad irony. (translated as "The journey ends here") Whoever put those words there meant them to say, "Your search is over. You've found the perfect home." Instead, events put a completely different meaning to it: "This is the home you will die in."
That seems to be the reason for the sense of dread and foreboding, capturing her last days and her death in the first and last halves of the song. |

I always thought it was about a guy who was falsely accused of a crime because he looks just like the one who actually did it. Police ask the crowd who did it and they point to him, because he is a "replica" of the real criminal.
Mistaken identity has put innocent people in prison. This song seems to describe the experience from the wrongly-accused's point of view. |

@[Ganondox:30983] - Agreed. It's very hard for me to interpret the lyrics as anything other than a description of the Second Coming -- Jesus putting an end to all suffering and death on the earth.
Rob Halford was brought up in a christian environment, so it is reasonable to assume that he was very familiar with biblical eschatology. He seems to be depicting the end-times scenario in a heavy metal context, with the Messiah as the "painkiller". |

The human genome is so degraded and full of mutations, that only a fresh infusion of healthy DNA will save the human race.

This song is taken directly from Revelation chapter 13 (the beast rises from the sea of people, nations, & tongues). As "children of the sea", we are the generation from which the antichrist will rise. this is one of those songs that's so straightforward and simple that it really doesn't need any interpretation.
it just means what it says: life is hard, and people have problems.
some of sabbath's later work however, was so loaded with symbolism and abstraction that ozzy himself probably can't tell you what he meant at the time. |

to me, this song compares a child's perception of the world (fast moving, exciting, something new every moment) to an adult's perception of the world (boring, tedious, having to work every day)
to a child, life is "quicker than a ray of light"
to an adult, life is full of drudgery, and you come home from work wanting to plop down on the couch and forget the day. |

i pretty much agree with everyone else, except i think the "sunny day outside my window" is from the girl's perspective when she was a child.
she was home alone, with her mother out bar-hopping, and the only thing that cheered her up was looking outside from her window --- but she was afraid to go out, because there was no one to watch after her. |

The title of this song is a personification of a broken relationship.
Think of it this way: Your dog gets hit by a car and you run out and pick him up from the street. He's dying and there's nothing you can do to save him, so you just hold him while he bleeds to death in your arms. Pretty sad, huh?
Elton is describing love as a living thing which has been mortally wounded, and all you can do is hold it for a little while until it dies. I didn't really understand the song until I went through a divorce after 20 years of marriage. Then it made perfect sense. I'm straight, but "Love lies bleeding" touches a nerve we can all relate to. |
