| Talking Heads – Take Me To The River Lyrics

a story of teenage lust and wishing to purify himself of the thoughts... double entendre with his lust and baptism.
the live version of this with the back up singers is even better than the studio one. |

To me, this song seems like it is about the excitement of a relationship, wanting to fix the clock to see them again as soon as possible. And then the last stanza is about drinking and making out or something. Or just making out. Mouth water = saliva |

the pan flute part is amazing, the entire song is amazing (like so many other anco songs) and it's about struggling with their partner's tendency to be escapists and seek comfort from their problems, leaving them with no one to lean on for support. they sleep in a strange bed because they are both isolated and actually in another physical place (being in a band means he travels a lot and is away from them). |

Unrelated to lyrics or song meanings, just personal~~ So this song came on as I was gushing to a friend about a teacher I have a crush on by this name. First time I ever really "heard" it, feels like, because I've had this album downloaded a while. He's happily married, though. |

It sounds more to me like, "Fever, yeah I'm burning for you"
Except he muffles "you" with "for" because he's all worked up and shit ya know? The guy's fucking having a reaction |

I kind of cracked up at the rest of the interpretations. This is the feel I got from the song. It also def seems about banging. |

When I heard this song I was nearly moved to tears... and listening to this album it in its entirety is beyond me. There's a reason this is the title song. I was sad that my vinyl is a poor re-print because I absolutely need to listen to it. Okay, anyways, I feel this song is about the utter futility of life. How painful it is to watch the world go by and change, seeing little actions taken besides empty words (including himself, besides his music) and just having "faith" which is as empty as anything else is. I wonder what the line "rape me like a child / christened in blood" might mean... if he's referencing baptisms or other early childhood religious rituals... I think it is an important line |

I mean I'm KIND OF glad it's a cover but it's disappointing to think Jack White enjoys singing to some shit like this. It is pretty dark that this is the only song Meg sings on in the entire album, too. |

I just got this album on vinyl and gave it a very serious listen and a lot of the songs refer to emotions of an emotionally volatile young man. This is about wanting to cage up his girl, even cut her off from communication ("disconnect the phone") all the while with his biblical references, acknowledgement of their power (the book/the word) in maintaining his, and how because he has nothing to lose (he needs her) he is never letting her go. |

One of my favorite songs because it is about a man who loves his lady and he wants to make her feel good and let her spirit free. He must be very good at intercourse. |

This is a song about being young and lost and feeling like nothing you do or feel or think is ever "right" because everyone has a different expectation or opinion on what is "right." |

I think this song is kind of sexy... and I thought it had to do with someone deeply, hauntingly, wanting to be in someone else's mind. Like, being present in their mind. To the point of some form of madness. Either way I don't have much else to say about this song, except that I love it. |

My favorite song off of this album. Seems like he doesn't find being a male to be all that great or something, with an intense desire to be a female or be freed of his sex or something. I have no idea. Either way, love this song. |

My favorite lyric ever comes from this song.
Sometimes you make me feel
Like I'm living at the edge of the world ...
"It's just the way I smile," you said |

I think it's simply about a love that he knew could not be (be it because of age or simply something else) and he realizes the relationship will be flawed in some way and rather avoid the pain and simply refuse the love because he loves her so much. |

I want this song to be about Meg. I saw the documentary, and given the intensity of the performance, I think it might just be. It may just be reflective of their relationship. And regardless of how their relationship ended up, they both have a deep attachment to eachother and she might have cried from the truth/beauty of the song, really. I cried too, haha. |

| The White Stripes – Jolene (Dolly Parton cover) Lyrics

So I first heard this cover before I heard the original, and I have to say, Jack White is truly an artist. He turned a seemingly emotionless performance on Dolly Parton's part and turned it into a gut-wrenching song of despair. I was in awe a few moments. Although I am sure the performance I watched of hers was probably way after this song was in its prime stage, when it was raw for her to perform etc. Wish I had this on vinyl. |

Totally on that social anxiety tip. It's asking if this social anxiety is something that needs to be cured, or if it's just a part of them. |

Wow I always misheard the "Trees there will be" line, as "Please stay with me".
I mean this song is great nonetheless, but I realize for The Knife you really need to look into the lyrics. |

I fell asleep listening to The Knife. I never thought I could, since their music is so frightening sounding. But anyways, I felt like this song had that whole "forbidden love" theme between a master and servant. |
