Sister, Do You Know My Name Lyrics
Well we're back in school again
And I don't really know anyone
I really want to be your friend
'Cause I don't really know anyone
And the bus is coming
Up to your house
I wish you could be sitting here next to me
Didn't see you at summer school
But I saw you at the corner store
I don't wanna break the rules
'Cause I've broken them all before
But everytime I see you
I wonder why
I'll break a couple rules so that you'll notice me
Sister do you know my name
I've heard it before but I wanna know
I've got a funny feeling
That it's gonna work out
And now I see you sitting here next to me
And I don't really know anyone
I really want to be your friend
'Cause I don't really know anyone
Up to your house
I wish you could be sitting here next to me
But I saw you at the corner store
I don't wanna break the rules
'Cause I've broken them all before
I wonder why
I'll break a couple rules so that you'll notice me
I've heard it before but I wanna know
I've got a funny feeling
That it's gonna work out
And now I see you sitting here next to me

i dont know, but I love it!
"I'll break a couple rules so that you'll notice me" So so true, I do this often but to rather crap outcomes
This one's about how going back to school or to anywhere where you don't know anyone can be hard, but if there's someone you want to get to know, then it can make things easier. Plain and simple, no metaphors in this song.
He's singing this one to Meg, whom he refers to as his older sister during shows (even thought they are ex-spouses)
He wants her attention
Yeah that's for Meg, he calls her "sister" and he doesn't know her yet (at the time the song referrs), this maybe be connected with "we're going to be friends"
"Sister do you know my name I've heard it before but I wanna know I've got a funny feeling That it's gonna work out And now I see you sitting here next to me "
A prophecy...
Or maybe he just wants some girl to know his name...
Or maybe he just wants some girl to know his name...
hes new at school and he has kind of a bad rep and he likes this girl but is too (shy?) to go up to her and is now admiring her from a distance now hes doing bad things just for her to notice him
i think the analysis is spot on, a literal song about him wanting to know a particilar girl, and at the end, he gets that chance
i think he's new and she's a popular girl. and the rules he's breaking are like the social junior high type rules. he wonders if she even knows who he is or knows his name. it's a cute song. jack white is good at making us feel like children by relating to childish feelings.
