I think that labeling this a song about a hooker is just a very narrow interpretation that ignores the rest of the lyrics.
In keeping with their folk roots, I think that this is a song about a man working in a rock quarry and looking forward to the end of the day when he can see the woman that he loves.
Beyond that, I think this is honestly a love song about how love is work. You do all you can to make this person you care about happy, even if it means breaking your back "bend my spine" or that the things you have to do are hellish "It's like walking in to the mouth of hell". But, in the end, no matter what, as long as you have that one person there, everything is okay, even if you're somewhere nasty like a "urine smelling transit station." |

Actually, I have to disagree with the drug addiction theory. I read the lyrics and it sounds more like just letting go of the past to find redemption. The screaming is about destruction he's brought about, which later wracks him with guilt. But, there's somebody telling him to just let it go while he lays on his death bed. |

Ok so apparently, when the video for Give Me A Sign was released, Ben revealed that the faceless guy was actually the angel on the cover of Phobia and that this song is about him. So....I'm guessing the Evil Angel is supposed to be Death. Idk but that makes sense to me when you consider how many phobias Ben has. |

Ok everyone needs to stop trying to tie songs to an anti-war stance. Seriously.
The first few people talking about how it's about a family and lost innocence had it right. The mom and dad fight a lot, but one day the dad either dies or the mother kills him. Hence the loss of the children and their "shiny toy guns".
Also, it's not "the right thing" it's "lightning".
Another way to look at it is just a song about war between man and machines. |

One: Christianity IS a religion. You can look it up...ANYWHERE and find that out. Faith is the ACT not the THING.
Two: You need to go back and read my first post cause I'm not including you in it. The problem is you're being just as confrontational.
Now that I've said that, my first point still stands. Everyone here is just hatemongering. Christianity ISNT the only religion in the world. It's not perfect but NIETHER are ISLAM and JUDAISM! They can be just as bad if not worse. |

Also I was kinda disappointed that the album didn't end on a softer note, like their others. Saturate had Forever, We Are Not Alone had Rain and Phobia had the acoustic version of Diary of Jane. Was just kind of a let down for me |

It might just be me but it seems like, with the exception of I Will Not Bow and this song, that most of the songs on the album are about loss in some way. Plus there isn't much variation between the songs past I Will Not Bow. They're all heavy with similar riffs and whatnot.
Anyway, as for this song - I think it's just about persevierance. Enduring through whatever hardship you might have. |

I think this is song is mostly about love in general, platonic or romantic. Like, the first part is him saying how he can never leave the person he loves and in the third stanza he's basically saying how he wants to stay together no matter what happens, even if they just end up hurting each other. |
