| Jimmy Buffett – Take It Back Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Nice find on the backstory, MADDIness. I had been wondering about it. Seems to fit the current struggle between the various torrent sites and the media companies. |

| Sparks – Talent Is An Asset Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Agreed. | |
| Coldplay – Lost+ (feat. Jay-Z) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Hey, I could not stand this at first, but then I realized that was just my prejudice against rap standing in the way. Looking at the lyrics, and actually listening, I think this stands on its own as well as the first version did. | |
| Coldplay – Rainy Day Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It sounds vaguely like a U2 line in delivery, I guess. | |
| Basshunter – All I Ever Wanted Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Yes, it does seem that the melody for this is the same as for DotA, like those for Boten Anna and Now You're Gone are shared. Still awesome. | |
| Avril Lavigne – All You Will Never Know Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Mmm... so true, so true. When opportunity knocks, once has to jump at it, or be lost and sad forever. I was lucky--finally came to terms with myself before the girl I adored in secret left the realm of possibility for me. -- "Memento Mori Ergo Carpe Diem" |
|
| Avril Lavigne – Get Over It Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I like the demo version better myself, with the cello in the background and the different chorus lyrics. Seems to fit the mood of the song better, and since it was the first version I ever heard, the different chorus in the other version is a bit jarring. -- "Memento Mori Ergo Carpe Diem" |
|
| Avril Lavigne – Things I'll Never Say Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
One of the songs that helped me reach the decision to come out to my parents, friends, and the girl who is now the love of my life. Sitting on the shore of Portage Lake up in Houghton, MI, looking out at the beautiful fall stars, and listening to Avril on my iPod, doing a lot of introspection. -- "Memento Mori Ergo Carpe Diem" |
|
| Groove Coverage – Can't Get Over You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Seems to be about a love that went wrong, but one partner cannot tear herself away from the partnership. She keeps trying to break it off inside her, but as we all know, that lingering love is truly a challenge to part. -- "Memento Mori Ergo Carpe Diem" |
|
| Groove Coverage – God Is A Girl Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Not sure about that, froggymicwop, though perhaps. It is a little unclear as to what exactly they poke fun at in particular, though it seems to have something to do with large productions (evangelical congregations?), huge amounts of money (the religious sham, an elaborate con perpetuated over millenia?), and children (the baby Jesus, the "children of God", etc.,?). -- "Memento Mori Ergo Carpe Diem" |
|
| Groove Coverage – Poison Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Ooh, sends shivers up and down me spine every time I hear it...love the song, ap plies so much to my life, it is crazy. I am always tempted by things that I really _ought_ not touch, but the draw is powerful strong. Also, love the beat. Gets into your bones as sure as its subject matter, gets into your head in a wicked way. Singing all the way back to the dorms... -- "Memento Mori Ergo Carpe Diem" |

| America – World Of Light Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Beautiful song, lovely message. Thought I had an analysis of it set already, but it seems I have been struck by Murphy. Oh, well. -- "Memento Mori Ergo Carpe Diem" |

| Nightwish – Dark Chest Of Wonders Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Peter Pan is good, but I think Ellen Dunkel from El Goonish Shive [egscomics.com] fits even better, especially the Second Life story arc (2004-09-04 through 2004-10-04, [http://www.egscomics.com/d/20040903.html] through [http://www.egscomics.com/d/20041004.html]), where Ellen has roughly six years' life experience added to herself (the reasons thereof are too complex to list here and are better understood with a partial archive binge anyway, but trust me when I say they make sense) while she slept. | |
| Nightwish – Where Were You Last Night Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Damn but I love this song. Agreed with Alosel--feels a little like Bon Jovi, especially the harmonies during the chorus. -- "Memento Mori Ergo Carpe Diem" |
|
| U2 – Numb Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Damn this is an awesome song. I rank it up there with a bunch of other awesome songs. ... Wow, this comment is not actually contributing to the discussion, eh? Well, let me remedy that: Love the lines here and there that are just silly, like "Have another grape". They add a counterpoint to the serious matter of the song. The harmonies, especially during the repetition of Don't project Don't connect Protect Don't expect Suggest are truly powerful. The underlying rhythm is remarkably close to my natural pace on a bicycle, and I can get lost in its lyrical directions. Combined with a few other powerful songs in my library, such as The Flying Pickets' version of Bob Dylan's "Masters of War", Linkin Park's "Numb", and Avril Lavigne's piano version of "These Things I'll Never Say", I can almost always achieve katharsis, especially if I follow the playlist with a quick, deep meditation. Tests and other nerve-raising activities just slide under me like a cat sliding across a table coated in butter after this. -- "Memento Mori Ergo Carpe Diem" |

| The Beatles – Dear Prudence Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| @uhmyeahboi: Exactly. Lovely movie, very well performed songs, and the whole of it, i thought, was very well put together. The scene of which you speak I thought was one of the best in the movie, especially with the room opening up into blue skies. | |
| John Lennon – Woman Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| @SageSoul: Agreed. The whole album is pure gold, and a fitting tribute to an amazing man. | |
| Van Morrison – Moondance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| ::dances with -Broken-Habit-, bows, vanishes again:: | |
| Within Temptation – Memories Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Definitely going to go with the interpretation that is presented in the video, of an elderly woman remembering her youth and a long-gone love from that time. Lovely song, lovely group. |
|
| Ten Years After – I'd Love to Change the World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
@drpoundsign: Did you? Did you? Did you? (sorry, feeling a little snarky this morning and it is exceedingly rare to see a triple post) Love this song, seems to pretty much sum up the apparent opinions of pretty much every government I can think of off the top of my head--thinking only about how to get re-elected, not about the actual issues they talk about to do so. |

| Pink Floyd – The Gunner's Dream Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| It has been said in various places that this album was indeed originally intended to be the sequel to "The Wall", and thus has some of the same characters, though that original intention was lost in inter-band bickering. Thus, it seems likely that the hero who returns in the previous song is the teacher in "The Wall", explaining but not excusing his behavior towards children. Perhaps the teacher feels himself responsible for the gunner's death --was he flying the plane? in charge of navigation? -- and thus the memory of the gunner and his dream of a world that has even still not been realized even partially "is driving [him] insane", as he thinks that perhaps the world would be much different had the gunner not perished. | |
| Golden Earring – Twilight Zone Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this fits some of the more recent Bond movies (discarding the Turkey idea), where he screws up and MI6 disowns him. | |
| Yazoo – Only You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Even more beautiful when harmonized by The Flying Pickets. | |
| Eagles – New York Minute Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
@jugheadchad: Probably the same reason people do (or don't, whatever the case may be) anything: They're lazy. It's a considerably smaller expenditure of effort to simply comment and not worry too much about the particulars (or sometimes even the generals) of something. It's an even better deal if, by commenting and asking a question, some other poor soul who actually has done the research posts back an answer, as then the asker's energy-to-knowledge ratio is even more friendly to her/him. More simply put, given a choice between someone handing you a caramel apple and having to make one from scratch, which would you rather have? Chances are, if you're human, and you likely are, you'll take the one handed to you, because someone else spent the energy required to make it and transport it to your current location. Thus, it makes more sense from an energy standpoint to allow others to do things for you. Hope that helps! -- "Memento Mori Ergo Carpe Diem" |

| Eagles – Already Gone Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Most amazing thing ever: Walking out of high school, the day of graduation. iPod on at full volume, this song comes on. Three of my closest friends and I just start beltin' it out like there's no tomorrow, and wave goodbye to the principal and IB coordinator. Felt like I was on top of the world at that moment. Love the Eagles! "Memento Mori Ergo Crape Diem" |

| Fleetwood Mac – I'm So Afraid Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Lovely song, guitar makes me wish I could play. As to the gibberish, $band_member says, "Lindsay Buckingham", in a very British accent. HTH, stoolhardy. | |

| ABBA – On And On And On Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Wicked awesome beat, good message. Stay loose, rock on, don't worry about the world falling to shit. Essentially carpe diem. Take advantage of what you've got in the here-and-now. | |
| ATC – Around The World Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Love the beat. Fun song. | |
| Fleetwood Mac – Smile at You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| A woman is drawn in to a guy, but he has already found someone else. She releases her hold on him, and lets him go to his new, younger interest. | |
| Fleetwood Mac – Come Lyrics | 18 years ago |

@GypsyDust: Yes they are. Word for word. @stoolhardy: Perhaps, but maybe more that the current relationship is at an end and wanting the previous one. |
|
| Fleetwood Mac – Peacekeeper Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| @Letmein: That sounds good to me. Anyone notice the lyrics are wrong? "...break their will..." does not sound anything like "...only kill...", the actual words. | |
| Fleetwood Mac – Running Through the Garden Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| @stoolhardy: Exactly my thoughts about this song. Almost certainly, at least in part, based on Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story "Rappaccini's Daughter". | |
| Bob Seger – In Your Time Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is poignant and powerful. I have, on three distinct occasions, sent this song to friends who needed to be shown a new path to life. The first was having a major issue with drugs. I wish that I could say he beat it, but he is currently going to rehab and one can always hope. The second was a dear friend who was having very serious thoughts and several attempts at suicide. She has since recovered from her then-undiagnosed manic depression, and now is living a much more balanced and cheerful life. This was not of course the result solely from the song, but I like to think it helped matters. The third was a friend who, while not outwardly, was having a personal identity crisis. He wasn't quite sure who or what he was. The song, he told me, touched him very deeply, enough that he sent a very long and complex email to me, discussing his issues. I talked him through it, and he is now at peace with himself. I love this song because it can touch so many people so profoundly, and is IMHO one of Seger's best. | |
| Jimmy Buffett – Fruitcakes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Truer words were never spoken. Insanity is definitely how I stay sane in my life. Go Jimmy Buffett! | |
| Midnight Oil – Antarctica Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| @miceyman: Pretty sure it's "landslide". Agreed, "Blue Sky Mining" is the _best_ "green" album I've heard. "Green"++. | |
| Midnight Oil – River Runs Red Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| One of the "greenest" songs on the album, IMHO. "Green" in the sense of environmentalism. "Green"++. Powerful song. | |
| Allison Crowe – This Little Bird Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's a song about a joyous reunion between lovers. Nothing much else to read into the song. | |
| Rob Thomas – Streetcorner Symphony Lyrics | 18 years ago |

@Jay F: Well, if there must be brainwashing, isn't that a good thing to be brainwashed into? I mean, it's better than Nazism for instance... |
