Cocteau Twins – Evangeline Lyrics
|
To me, this feels like how some people are damaged from their childhood
Even as a child knowing that there's something different or not quite "right" about you.
"I there is no going back
I can't stop feeling now"
Knowing that you can't change how things were and that you feel the way you do because of the memories and experiences
"I am not the same, growing up again"
I think this having the realisation that your childhood experiences weren't normal, and now you have to re-parent yourself as an adult, and learn things that were taught to most others without them by their own family/parents.
"I had to fantasize, mum and dad were queen and king"
"Just to survive, I was a famous artist and people took me seriously
Even those who understood me
I had to fantasize just to survive"
I feel like this is about dissociation and maladaptive coping mechanisms and/or daydreams you have to try and escape the reality that was your childhood and your life
Or maybe I'm relating this to my own experiences too much ???? |

The Shivers – Beauty Lyrics

I altered it to "I swear to god I'm loving you for life" because I saw a video of him playing this live, and he clearly says "life" not "that" and if you listen closely you can hear the "f" sound in the studio version, too |

Lighthouse Family – High Lyrics

@[stagnate:35131] Welp. I'm back 12 years later, almost to the day. This song still reminds me of my dad. I think of him whenever I hear it. It's hitting a little different now that he is sick and may not be here much longer. Happy to say that my dad and I have gotten closer again, like we were when I was a kid. |

I think it's about bucking up your ideas, and doing something to help yourself. The only one who can help yourself is you. You're not going to accomplish anything until you stop accepting the way things are, and actually do something about changing it. |

The Nolans – Gotta Pull Myself Together Lyrics

About a girl who breaks up with a guy only to find out it's not what she really wants. She's stubborn and doesn't want him to know she is upset, hence "no tears" and "gotta pull myself together". |

It's like this song is about the film "The Green Mile". I'm not sure whether or not that is what inspired it, but it definitely reminds me of it. |

ODESZA – Say My Name Lyrics

I think this is about someone who is pining for someone else, possibly a friend, and the feelings aren't returned.
They're asking for the person to give them a chance because they feel that feelings would be reciprocated if they do so. |

Supertramp – From Now On Lyrics
|
Feel like it's about being depressed about your life. You go to work on Monday, see all of the same familiar faces and complete dull routinely tasks. It feels like you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel with this situation.
But you can only dream about the life you wish to lead, think of things you can do to get rich fast and leave the seemingly dead-end life you're stuck in, even if it's something illegal.
But, alas, you know you'll never do such a thing, so the closest thing to liberation is just to dream, and live in a perpetual fantasy. |

Widowspeak – Harsh Realm Lyrics

Possibly about someone that knew someone else when they were both going through hard times. Maybe as a teenager - "as bodies grew". They've grown apart but she still misses and thinks about this person.
Really relatable. |

Lana Del Rey – Sad Girl Lyrics
|
About a girl who is in love with a man, whom does not love her back. He sees her merely as someone he can show off to people, she's an object of his desires, and she knows this. However, she loves him so much, she tries to kid herself and others into believing that it's great being his "bonny/money on the side" "you haven't seen my man" is her justification when people try to tell her otherwise. "You don't know him, so you wouldn't understand" when other people try and tell her otherwise, but despite trying to fool herself, she knows what's going on, and that's why she's sad. |

Yes, they are, but I know people are Christian, just because they are it does not mean that everything they have to say has a direct relation to God. |

Electric Light Orchestra – Mr. Blue Sky Lyrics
| 9 years ago
|
I feel like this is about overcoming depression, the blue sky is the proverbial "light at the end of the tunnel."
He's asking why it took so long for him to be happy again. Mr night, is a metaphor for depression, and "i'll remember you this way" is the longing for happiness when you're severely consumed by sadness.
Or maybe I'm just projecting my own feelings... |

Simple song about a girl who wants to express her feelings despite having obvious reservations and doubts in doing so. However, in saying that, she feels that she should, because otherwise she would regret it, if he did in fact feel the same. |

Popstrangers – Don't be Afraid Lyrics
|
I feel like this song is about a guy that is with a girl but she is really closed off and secretive, possibly has anxiety. He's telling her that she can trust him, because right now she doesn't because she's afraid of being hurt; But in reserving herself and bottling things up it "damages" her anyway. He won't judge her and that by getting out what she needs to, it will prevent her from being "damaged". |

Ducktails – Killin the Vibe Lyrics

I feel like this is about those killjoys that ruin a good time just because they're not having fun themselves. E.G: "If I'm not happy the world isn't happy", I feel like he's telling the person to just chill out and endure it, it's not the worst thing in the world to be fake-happiness for the sake of other people. |

Tove Lo – Habits (Stay High) Lyrics

I think this song is about Tove trying to find anything (sometimes reckless things) to escape the emptiness that she feels when she is without a certain someone.
E.G: going to sexclubs, drinking, spending all her money, getting high picking up other men to fill the void engaging in casual sex.
She's acting like she doesn't care, but she does and she's using anything to fill the void. |

Eyedea & Abilities – Powdered Water Too Pt. 1 Lyrics
| 10 years ago

Also, to build on this, you can never see the world in an objective way because it's the way your brain is made, you don't even realise that everything you do is sub-consciously predetermined because, you can't control your thought processes, or the way your brain transmits signals through your brain, it's just how it is and how it always will be.
"Also we don't know the meal, we only know the menu that our brain tells us is real"
You know only what your brain transmits to you. You don't really know what causes you to like for instance -e.g: a song; you like the lyrics, the instruments, you the melody, they rhythm it sounds great to you, however, to someone else it sounds garbage, because they don't like the that they all sound together. You yourself know that it sounds great to you, but WHY your brain interprets it as being pleasant is unknown, you can't control it, it just... does.
I need to stop thinking |

Eyedea & Abilities – Powdered Water Too Pt. 1 Lyrics
| 10 years ago

I love this song! It makes you realise that you perceive the world based on the environment you're in. You can never understand the way anyone else thinks because you can never live in their environment/existence/"cubicle" hence the reason you like some people, and you don't like others. You tend to like the people whose existence is made up of a environment that is similar to yours, because you will perceive the world in a relatively similar way.
Well that's what I get from this song, deep shit. |

Tyler, the Creator – Inglorious Lyrics

I really like this song. It's exactly how I feel about my mother, didn't want me from the day I was born.
"left a burden on my soul
until i was old enough to understand that the fucking faggot didn't like me much"
I understand this to a tee. Sort of like you feel really shitty about having someone that's supposed to love you doesn't want anything to do with you but then eventually you realise that they're the one with the issues, not you. |

Eyedea – Man Vs. Ape Lyrics
|
"We think we're advanced but there's nowhere to go
I think this should be "We think we'll advance, but there's nowhere to go"
I think this is about mankind is destroying the world and we're completely oblivious that we're doing so. Despite all of our attempts to "save" the world, we're not going anywhere but backwards. The world is a fucked up place, and there's no fixing the damage we've inflicted upon it. We're nothing more than what we evolved from - Apes. We like to kid ourselves and pretend that we're in control of what we do and think, but in actuality we're just animals ourselves.
Sorry if this doesn't make any sense, I can't figure out how to word my interpretation properly. |

I think this song is about a girl wanting to be with someone who is considered 'bad news'. She, however, is not oblivious to this; She doesn't care because she's tough and she can handle it. |
