| Frightened Rabbit – Foot Shooter Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Thanks for appreciating my interpretation :) | |
| Third Eye Blind – Blinded (When I See You) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I always thought the exact same thing. | |
| Frightened Rabbit – Yes, I Would Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Yes, I agree. He wants that chance, to change, to be different, but he fears he will never be given the opportunity "what if i am never thrown that rope?" One of the most gorgeous from the album. |
| Frightened Rabbit – Not Miserable Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Yeah I see what you're saying. He's saying most of the misery is gone, most. But he acknowledges that the feelings of despair could return, at the drop of a hat ("flick of a switch") but that it hasn't happened yet. Kinda like "i feel better and better and worse and then better"... I just love the lyrics: So the hymns that I sung Prayers for the fucked, from a bitter, forked tongue Sing of history now Soo good! |
| Frightened Rabbit – Foot Shooter Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is my absolute favorite song on the album! It is brilliant! The way he uses the figure of speech "to shoot oneself in the foot", to go against one's own interests/ to be self-destructive, in this case by saying things he shouldn't while he is drunk, and then using words to paint a picture of actually having shot himself in the foot. I'm not sure if I worded that right to express what I mean but I just think it's phenomenal! Like, using the word loaded- loaded in the sense that he is drunk and loaded like a gun. And, "And as the body succumbs, and my mouth goes numb,I limp out to the sound of, the breaking of broken toes". Limping cause he just shot himself in the foot... Also, "And if I shoot at you, you should shoot at me too, And we can drown in pools of the thick dark words we threw, And as my face turns white, I apologise, I am sorry, it's not your fault,It's mine"- pools of words he just spewed out and pools of blood from the wound to the foot/ face turns white from the regret of what he just said and the loss of blood. And then still also managing to tie it in to the nautical theme throughout the whole album: "And as the dam bursts open and you're drowned out boy Better go outside, sit in your boat and wait 'til you get washed away" I love it. I think he is an amazing lyricist. |
| Frightened Rabbit – Nothing Like You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I like how he compares trying to get over her to recovering from a operation to remove a cancerous tumor, with someone new helping to nurse him back to health, although he admits that this someone new is not a cure but an aid. | |
| Frightened Rabbit – The Wrestle Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I can clearly see all three ideas suggested above; a physical/metaphorical shark fight, an internal struggle and sex. | |
| Frightened Rabbit – The Loneliness and the Scream Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This might have nothing to do with the song, but whenever I hear the lyrics it always makes me think of that riddle "if a tree falls in a forest, and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound?" The parts that make me think that are as follows: I have fallen in the forest Did you hear me? In the loneliness oh the loneliness and the scream to prove to everyone that I exist Am I here? Of course I am, yes Anyway, like I said, maybe it's just me. But I think it's a cool way to look at it. |
| Frightened Rabbit – Things Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I also think it's about death or a metaphorical death. When we die all that is left of us is our physical things. And in life we collect things have attachments to them but in reality they are meaningless. What's really important is love and relationshipss "human heat." My favorite part is " And the dust, it settles on these things Displays my age again Like a new skin made from old skin That'd barely been lived in" That is so clever! I love how he thinks and the way he uses words. |
| Frightened Rabbit – Things Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This is the sea by the waterboys is AMAZING. I can see how he may have been inspired by it when writing this song. | |
| Frightened Rabbit – Old Old Fashioned Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I completely agree. I think he sees the relationship radpidly dissolving. So he wants "put the brakes on" and slow down time ("put the wall clock in the drawer") and block out all of the distractions to see if there is something left to salvage of their relatioship. If they are able to get "old fashioned" then maybe they will be able to move past whatever the problem is rather than breaking up ("relying on our memories"). Just my opinion. | |
| Frightened Rabbit – Good Arms vs. Bad Arms Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Thank you! :D I just noticed something else clever..."so i'll stick to my guns, but from now on it's war"- guns- another term for arms, and also he'll hold to his convictions. I don't know if Scott does this intentionally, but either way I find it genius! |
| Sarah McLachlan – Building A Mystery Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Insightful comment. I like it and I agree with you. The lines "can you look out the window without your shadow getting in the way" make me think of the myth of Narcissus, he is distracted and enamoured by his own reflection. The church he "lives in" is the carefully constructed facade he created for himself where, like you said, he is the secret god. |
| Skid Row – Youth Gone Wild Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I 100% agree with you!! I looked up this song specifically to see if anyone mentioned this. While I like this song and Sebastian Bach's voice better, it really is uncanny how much these two songs sound alike, makes you wonder, considering Youth Gone Wild came out like 6 years after Too Young to Fall in Love.... | |
| Sanders Bohlke – The Weight Of Us Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Hits me right in the heart. To me it's about being afraid. Afraid of love and letting someone in emotionally- and essentially what that will bring ("the weight of us"), the person is scared they are not ready. If they are not brave they will miss out though. There may be a bigger picture here, a more global perspective possibly to this song, but on an individual level that's what it means to me. | |
| Andrew Belle – In My Veins Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I've come to find I have a soft spot for songs with lyrics about someone being in your veins. But this song is above and beyond. I don't think this one needs too much interpretation, it's stated pretty clearly in the chorus what it's about. I just love these lyrics: "All that you rely on And all that you can fake Will leave you in the morning But find you in the day" It will always find you. |
| The Black Keys – Lies Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Yeah, it's most likely about a secret/hidden relationship type thing. Maybe it's just me, but I was listening to this the other day and the first verse especially made me think of a vampire/human relationship. Like I could really see them using this on a show like True Blood or something. I don't know I'm starting to think all the vampire themes in pop culture are seeping into my brain now. Kinda lame, I know, but hey, it's a thought. | |
| Frightened Rabbit – Good Arms vs. Bad Arms Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree with what everyone else has said. Maybe it's just me but I LOVE how he uses the word arms in three different contexts: "you don't need these now that you've found another pair"- his physical arms, she doesn't need to be held by him anymore because she has someone new "leave the rest at arm's length"- distance "I am armed with the past, and the will, and a brick"- these are his weapons This is one of my favorite songs ever! Amazing band! |
| The War On Drugs – Taking the Farm Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the lyrics with the question marks above are: "said I'm taking the air, and the rag that you're bleeding upon" This song makes me :) |
| Lovehammers – Casualty Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| lmao. It does sound like sodomy. | |
| Youth Group – Shadowland Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I just came on here to comment about the same thing that allyesawkward just commented on...about "your plans are as useful as a baby's hand"- that is a really great line. Babies hands are basically useless just as in a way making plans are, they don't always work out the way you want them to, Love the song! | |
| Bell X1 – Eve, The Apple of my Eye Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I like everyones ideas. I'd just like to say that the way I see it "The only thing we share is the same sky" is one of the most depressing lyrics ever, even if you know it's not really true at all, and you have many things in common with a person, feeling like the only thing you share with them is living under the same sky is such a lonely feeling. | |
| The National – Lucky You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
My favorite song of theirs. All the interpretations are spot on I'd say. Saddest part to me: you clean yourself to meet the man who isn't me you're putting on a shirt a shirt I'll never see |
| Stereophonics – Rewind Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| hmm, so I was the last person to comment in over a year...that's a shame. But anyway, I love the beat of this song I never noticed it till one day I was listening w/ my headphones. Also, I never noticed the line "the place I was born in stays crooked and straight"....I love contradictions. | |
| Phoenix – Sometimes in the Fall Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Yes it is! I love this song. Not 100% sure what it's about, I have some ideas, but I'll get back to you..... | |
| Todd Thibaud – Unbroken Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| A quirky girl? who may have broke his heart? Either way, he can't get her off his mind or let go of her. My Favorite song by this guy. | |
| Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – 666 Conducer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is a good song by BRMC. I really like sbto's interpretation! But, yeah I also agree with linderat. You can CLEARLY hear a Led Zeppelin influence in this song, or at least I can, sounds very "When the Levee Breaks", in my opinion. | |
| The Working Title – P.S. Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I guess I am the only one who pays this song any attention. I really don't know what the whole song is about, but one day while I was absentmindedly listening to it something came to me (that's how it usually happens w/ me, once I stop thinking about it, it comes to me). Anyway this part: State your reason For cushioning your fall, I call it treason Please share with me your thoughts To me it seems like he's saying "why are you putting a wall between us and trying to protect yourself?" He feels it's a betrayal to him that she is not opening up and letting herself be vulnerable to him or their love or whatever. Just a thought. |
| Matchbox Twenty – Back 2 Good Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I already commented, but I have another favorite lyric "everyone here hides shades of shame"...that's all I had to say. | |
| Taking Back Sunday – Ghost Man on Third Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I dont think there's anything left to say, but... "This is what living like this does" "Thank god you weren't there to watch me hit bottom" I really like those lyrics I also like when he says "it's just not working out" |
| Taking Back Sunday – Great Romances of the 20th Century Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"If it's not keeping you up nights, then what's the point?" my favorite part. |
| Taking Back Sunday – Cute Without The 'E' (Cut From The Team) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
wow 38 pages of comments. Here are the parts that mean the most to me: A thousand clever lines unread on clever napkins- I like what logicistornapart said about that- i never thought of it in that way but I like it better than mine, I just saw it as writing thoughts on napkins know you well enough to know you'll never love me (why can't I feel anything from anyone other than you?) ^those are myfavorite lyrics of the song I stay wrecked and jealous for this I just love how he sounds at this part. |
| Taking Back Sunday – Bike Scene Lyrics | 18 years ago |
So much has already been said. hmm, I like when he says "this is all wrong" I also love the lyric "I didn't want it to mean that much to me" that just gets to me. |
| Taking Back Sunday – You Know How I Do Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Well I skimmed the comments, way too many to read all of them, but yeah I agree with the drug references. Although I came across someone else's comment who said that hazy eyes could mean sick of being blind to or ignoring a problem- which could go along w/ drugs (as a double meaning) or any problem. Anyway I will also add my favorite parts are "I'm willing and waiting to prove the worst of everything you had to say about me" and "the finest line divides a night well spent from a waste of time" |
| Taking Back Sunday – Head Club Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I agree with m1nu5 th3 b34r . There has already been a lot said, so I will just add that, like the person above me wrote, I love the part " I can't say I blame you but I wish that I could I'm sick of writing every song about you" also I never noticed this lyric but I like it "I'm only complaining to keep myself busy.." |
| Whitesnake – Still of the Night Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This isn't a bad song, obviously it caught my attention. But I agree 100% w/ blackestdog and samwalton, my god this is such a rip off of Robert Plant! If I were him I'd be pissed too. In fact, when I first heard this song I thought it was some random zep song I had never heard. I couldn't figure out why everytime I searched zeppelin still of the night, nothing came up...now I know why... | |
| Matchbox Twenty – Unwell Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It could most definitely be about mental illness, schizophrenia or bipolar, or it could just be about how everyone once in a while feels low, depressed, and like crap. And you feel like you're at the breaking point. You aren't crazy or insane though. All night I'm hearing voices telling me That I should get some sleep Because tomorrow might be good For something That part reminds me of insomnia. In general though I think he's telling someone who wants to get involved with him that he may seem ok on the surface but if they stick around for a while they'll see how messed u he is and then they'll miss how he was before they knew how he really is. Reminds me of 11th grade. Anyway great song. Very relatable. |
| Matchbox Twenty – You Won't Be Mine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Obviously this song is about a relationship. But for some reason I never thought of it in that way exactly, I always viewed it as him talking to himself, about life and things he's done that will make it so that they can't be together. Like it's his fault. I really don't think that's what he was getting at, but anyway I guess that's just how I related to it. My favorite lyrics are: Write your soul down word for word See who's your friend, who is kind Then try to find if it was worth what you spent Why you're guilty for the way you're feeling now |
| Matchbox Twenty – Leave Lyrics | 18 years ago |
All the above posts are right. If you are having some sort of relationship type problem and are depressed, this is the song to listen to. This was my favorite song by matchbox 20 a few years back now. I still love it, just not as much, since I'm not in the same place anymore. This is my favorite part: I'm not saying there was nothing wrong I just didn't think you'd ever get tired of me And I'm now saying we ever had the right to hold on I just couldn't ever let you get away from me so sad....and even worse if you've ever felt this way, which I'm sure most people have. |
| Matchbox Twenty – Bed Of Lies Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think elenaki summed it up nicely. I like these lyrics: Don't think that I can take another empty moment Don't think that I can fake another hollow smile I tried to be more than me And I gave until it all went away I also like how he's calling it a learning experience. But my absolute favorite lyric is : I know that it's weak But God help me, I need this I think this can relate to anything. To any type of crutch a person has that they know it makes them weak to need it, but they just can't help it. |
| Matchbox Twenty – Bent Lyrics | 18 years ago |
To the person above me, I analyze lyrics like that too all the time, like where adding a simple comma or something could change the meaning. But at least the way I've always understood it is that he is afraid he will never be put back together. I can definitely see how you were confused though. This song reminds me of when I was in 9th grade, I would hear it on the bus and relate it to my life. I was going through a rough patch and totally understood "I'm so scared that I'll never Get put back together" and also "I started out clean but I'm jaded". There's actually a couple of lyrics here that are missing..."And this is how we will end....Hell, I'd go there again" that's actually my favorite part. Reminds me of senior yr. when things were going down the drain w/ someone I really cared about but I felt like I'd go through the bad part again, because the part that wasn't bad was so worth it. Anyway one of my favorites by mb20. |
| Matchbox Twenty – Rest Stop Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Obvious what it's about.I completely agree with the people who said it's so vivid! Great song! One of my favorites by Matchbox 20. | |
| Matchbox Twenty – Back 2 Good Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song just reminds me of being at a party and everyone is randomly hooking up with whomever is available even though they are all thinking about and wishing they were with someone else. But they are bored and lonely, and it's easy. You know that it's fake and meaningless and tomorrow you'll pretend not to know each other. You want to stop this cycle but you aren't sure if you'll ever be able to. My favorite line is "And everyone here, hates everyone here for doing just like They do" ....pretty self explanitory. The song could easily be about everything everyone above me said as well, this is just what it initially made me think of. |
| Dios – Nobody's Perfect Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I really like this song. I love how before he even starts singing the music builds up and then just sinks. That's the only way I can describe it. I think it's pretty obvious what the song is about: 2 people breaking up, he's not sad about it though, he stayed to long in the relationship as it is, and she can't blame him for everything that's wrong, she has to take some responsibility too. The good times can't save them from all their problems. Oh and I could be wrong, but " you can't hold me lie a bone" I think it's liable...at least it makes more sense that way. |
| The Fire Theft – Heaven Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love this song. I like what everyone above has said. To me though "Heaven" represents happiness and everything he's wanted and waited for, for so long. I feel like when he says "Heaven, Are you really waiting outside the door" he is questioning it in disbelief- he can't believe that happiness is so close by, because he has been disappointed so many times before. He never thought he'd get here. But he can feel it. Just my thoughts.... | |
| The Honorary Title – Only One Week Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yeah this is one of my favorites from the album as well! and yeah it's obvious what it's about. Story of my life. My favorite parts would be: "Want nothing more than our futures to collide Can tell this is going to be one of many disappointing nights Traces of you are so minimal" and the chorus! Oh and those lyrics w/ the question marks are: "A black and white bar photo booth with us" and "Lit by sunlight rather the hours to obsess" I love how his voice gets so emotional too! |
| Josh Rouse – 100m Backstoke Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Yeah this song is sad, but so beautiful!!! I just love the little tune that repeats throughout the song between some of the verses... | |
| Matthew Ryan – Irrelevant Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Ooh that's a good way of looking at it too!!! I like it Tiltcr! Glad someone else shared their opinion! | |
| Bright Light Fever – Crowded Street in May Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I'm glad someone commented! And yes, I pretty much agree with you. Something happened to her, the way I think of it is maybe she was shot or something on that crowed street in may, she survived , but she'll never be the same (maybe paralyzed or maybe just emotionally). Either way she's in denial and he feels like she's become a burden. I like the part where he says "I say I'm still in love, but I'm a liar". | |
| Transister – Flow Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Well, I already commented on this song, but every time I hear it I find something new. I actually came on here to say something and noticed that someone had basically said it, I agree w/ OAMM- the other person hears the beautiful sounds of bells and that represents the way they see the world. While all she can hear is "sirens and car engines fighting the snow" - which symbolize the panic and struggle she feels. | |
