Black Sabbath – Country Girl Lyrics

After almost 15 years of listening to this song, I JUST NOW got the innuendo in the title. Dio, you are one cunning linguist! |

Sonata Arctica – Cinderblox Lyrics

I was about to scoff at the jailbait comments, but I think there might be something to it. The narrator is most certainly in jail and says he wants to go back to "you". Yet things are phrased in ways that make it seems like she's the reason he's in there, and when he gets out he will do the things that put him there in the first place. |

Queensrÿche – I Remember Now Lyrics

I really think it should be "bizzare MURDERS of political and religious leaders...". That would make a lot more sense in context of not only the news report, but the entire Mindcrime story. |

Jacob's Dream – The Gathering Lyrics
|
Looks like a song about the apocalypse. The Biblical apocalypse that is, what with references to "Sacred fires burning" and "Masters' jealousy fury" with "Master's" capitalized. |

Jacob's Dream – Sarah Williams Lyrics

Self-explanatory, but the lyrics are about a girl that the author apparently killed in a drunk driving accident. I don't know if this is a true story or not. |

Helloween – We Burn Lyrics

The stutter on "G-g-generations" seems like it may be an homage to The Who as they do that in the song "My Generation" |

Sonata Arctica – The Misery Lyrics

It would seem to make more sense if it were BY a pen rather than TO a pen. Ex: "I write the lines you want me to..." |

Ayreon – Day Ten: Memories Lyrics
|
"Do you recall that day
You proposed to me, and fell down to your knees
You didn’t know what to say
So she knelt down too for she thought you’d lost your keys!"
This is another one of those things I can see happening to me. |

Sonata Arctica – Tallulah Lyrics

Absolutely beautiful song.
"I lost my patience once, so do you punish me now" - he broke up with her because he couldn't wait for her to break up with him. And now it seems (to him anyway) that she's not agreeing to get back together because of that. |

Sonata Arctica – Shamandalie Lyrics

Classic story. Friendship turns to love, love fades away, friendship is gone. At the end of it all, he just wants his friend back. (Can you forgive me?/The love got better off me). |

Sonata Arctica – Paid in Full Lyrics
|
This song is more about the healing process after breakup than the actual pain and heartache.
He says "I need you less and less every day", and goes from having a hard time loving himself to having a hard time hating himself. |

Sonata Arctica – Mary-Lou Lyrics

I don't get the combination of lines:
"Sunshine or rain, it's all the same
Life isn't grey..."
Individually, both can be (and have been) interpreted, but when combined they create a sort of paradox. If "life isn't grey" means either to see things as black and/or white, or that life is not sad/melancholy/etc, then why would sunshine and rain be "all the same"? |

Sonata Arctica – Letter To Dana Lyrics
|
~ I think it was likely also literal, as the day he died on was a nice day. ~
At the time this song came out I'd buy the literal interpretation. But 4 albums later, their lyrics are far too poetic and metaphorical to be taken at face value.
~The lie he's telling is that he no longer loves her.~
The lie is that "I'd wait for you forever", but since Dana has someone else ("someone else is holding you"), he has no choice but to move on. |

Sonata Arctica – Draw Me Lyrics
|
~Tony said in an interview once: "My friend's dad used to draw when he was younger and he drew a big painting of his own father and soon after that his father died. Then he drew his own brother and shortly after he also died. After this he decided he will never draw again - he just won't. "~
They're playing this live on their current trip through the U.S. with Nightwish. At the show in Worcester, MA, Tony introduced this song by saying essentially what SeppoIlmarinen quoted him as saying. Followed by "True story." |

Nightwish – Master Passion Greed Lyrics
|
"what does writing black metal lyrics have to do with anything? And what are black metal lyrics anyway?"
Black metal lyrics are lyrics to a black metal song. They often describe feasting on the corpse of someone you raped and killed. It was more of a sarcastic remark on my part than any substantial analysis. |

Warrant – Uncle Tom's Cabin Lyrics

All these years I thought this song was by Skid Row. It blew my mind when I found out this was actually Warrant. It just seems too heavy to be done by the same band that produced "Cherry Pie". |

Nightwish – Come Cover Me Lyrics

There's a certain sense of longing or desperation in the words, so tend to think this is about unrequited love. |

Nightwish – The Kinslayer (feat. Ike Vil) Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
I think all metalheads can empathize with the killers of Columbine, at least a little. There isn't one of us who hasn't been the subject of some sort of bullying by jocks. And there isn't one of who hasn't dreamed about some type of vengeance/revenge on them(deny it all you want), whether it's just telling them off, punching one, or something more grandiose, like what the Redeemers planned. |

Nightwish – Know Why The Nightingale Sings Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
The song is about Tuomas finally being able to make music and to write "poems" as he calls them. It sounds like the view from someone writing for the first time who takes "a step to a world unbound/Spinning my fantasies all around". Knowing why the nightingale sings is like knowing why the writer writes. |

Nightwish – Ever Dream Lyrics

Brilliant song. It's about confronting the person you love to find out if they feel or ever felt the same way about you. |

Bruce Dickinson – 1000 Points of Light Lyrics

Great song. Sounds to me like a commentary on war, specifically how people (especially politicians) don't seem to care about those who died and asking if it's really worth it. |

Bruce Dickinson – Born in '58 Lyrics

Bad Bruce Dickinson song? This? No way! The earlier solo albums are filled with like this that break the trend of what he was doing in Maiden and I think that adds to their charm. |

Bruce Dickinson – Taking The Queen Lyrics

Bruce describes this as a "twisted fairy tale" on...I don't remember if it's the Anthology DVD or the "The Voice of Crube" track on his "Best of..." CD. |

Iced Earth – Declaration Day Lyrics

The song is about the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution. This is not opinion. References to the phrase "give me liberty or give me death" and to King George should make that obvious. |

Laughing Colors – War on Drugs Lyrics

"What ever happened to sex, drugs, and rock and roll?
Now we just have AIDS, crack, and techno"
While I'm not a big fan of this band, the line above is so true I just had to post here. |
