| Future Islands – Like the Moon Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Seems to me that the song is about a one night stand. The lyrics speak to how he "won't be around". Seems to me that he's desperate to spend one night with this beautiful woman who reminds him of the moon in both looks and how they'll both be gone by morning. Rather than dismiss him now, he's hoping they can be together and enjoy each others company, despite knowing where they'll ultimately end up. It's quite sad but ultimately hopeful, if only for the pleasure of the moment |

| Keane – Spiralling Lyrics | 17 years ago |
You kids are TERRIBLE at writing about song meanings. I'm sorry but you get ridiculous with this rating and reviewing stuff. I came here for the MEANING, not to hear your opinions on the album. I'm sorry, but thats the NAME OF THE SITE. Since you won't do your job, I will: To me this song is about how out of control life and especially love gets. It's a literal spiral (sometimes downards, but I'm pretty sure the upbeat tempo and lyrics aren't trying to imply that). Rather, it sounds (and feels) like it's all one big party that you want to get wrapped up in. The way the lyrics go ("I fashioned you from jewels and stones"..."gave you everything") it seems like its about someone completely and desperately in love with someone who keeps "slipping through (his) fingers". And as sad and weird as it sounds, even though its really tragic and kinda stalkerish, you can TOTALLY relate, b/c that feeling of being in love/in lust with someone feels so good to get caught up in. It's an awesome spiral and an awesome song =^) |

| Weezer – Pig Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Maybe this is overdramatic but I swear to God this song gives me the chills. It's weird how it seems to be a song that PETA would write but at the same time it relates a lot to humans too. Essentially it's a story about A LIFE from beginning to end. I'm interested in how of all the animals, they chose a pig. Is it b/c people say that some people are pigs? Is it b/c pigs are usually looked at negatively and this portrays them positively? I don't know. But I do know is that song definitely gives me the chills. |

| The Klaxons – Golden Skans Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Well, in my opinion, this song is about just living, and not trying to plan things out (You can forget our future plans) because things just happen. And we leave behind relics, records, and numbers to try and show our importance when in reality, no one really knows what's going to happen next, so you should just wait and see (while we wait while we wait). |
| The Mars Volta – Goliath Lyrics | 18 years ago |
You guys are sooo close to what I think the meaning is. The Ouji board stuff is right, but get this, the board is called "Goliath" and "The Soothsayer". To me this song is about enjoying Goliath's predictions but then realizing it's darker side and literally having to bury/get rid of it before it's too late. |

| Peter Bjorn and John – The Chills Lyrics | 18 years ago |
These lyrics are actually incorrect (look at the album booklet). It's "Your field is crowded...." instead of "your fear is crowdin'" To met its a song about dealing with letting go. Someone you love has hurt you badly, but you want to get hurt again b/c you love them so much, but unfortunately, they have no room for you in their life... "Your field is crowded, and there is still no place for someone like me to fill" And it doesn't matter how long u spend away from them b/c "Time don't heal it kills" (another correct lyric that's not on these). |

| Robbie Williams – Tripping Lyrics | 18 years ago |
According to my gay friend this song is all about the oppression of gays. Yes the first stanza is Ghandi's quote, but my friend says it's actual like a motto for gays now. "I know i'ts coming there's going to be violence, I"ve taken as much as I'm willing to take" Either referring to the gay guy who wants to fight against those who oppress him or the gay guy knowing he's going to get hurt but doesn't care. "Why do you think we should suffer in silence?" Why should we keep our sexuality a secret? Our love a secret? "When a heart is broken there's nothing left to break" If we choose to keep living a lie we won't have any hearts left to break/basically be unable to love. |

| Arcade Fire – Ocean of Noise Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think its very much about a relationship thats going downhill as the song starts and then hopefully getting better near the end. I love how descriptive it is even with all the metaphors. Leaving in the morning into an ocean of violence (I think inner violence rather than outer) and empty streets. It's like he's leaving with all this horrible thoughts in his mind that are conflicting violently. The reasons they're referring to are reasons for leaving/seperating but as stated in the song, "they're just to buy time". Maybe they know their relationship is on the rocks so they need some time apart but they know full well that they'll end up back together. In the end, they do end up "working it out" |
| Midlake – kingfish pies Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think you all are right. This song is definitely about the negative effects of advancements. Reminds me of the saying, "they don't make um' like they used to, back in the good ol' days". It does a bit of dark humor to it as well. |
| Midlake – they cannot let it expand Lyrics | 18 years ago |
To me it means, "They can't see the bigger picture of things". A lot of Midlake songs I've listened to seem to revolve around not thinking on one level/focusing too deeply on any one given thing. I don't know if the song refers to expanding consciousness or expending your perspective. The last lyric is kinda like a resignation, either by the singer himself or the rest of the world. "Its pretty in here" b/c its what we're used to. It's safer here than it is to explore. |
| Midlake – Head Home Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Pretty simple interpretation in my opinion. Things are reallly cruddy at work, the people forget he's there, and a woman reads an anarchistic book and doesn't give him the time of day. All he wants to do is retreat to his place of solace. His home. I'm guessing he's working to fix the leaky roof. He'd rather do more honest work once it's all been fixed up. The thing about the news I took as meaning an interesting conflct or story for the narrator to enjoy from his house. Sorta like the "late-breaking news". |
| Midlake – Van Occupanther Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm almost one hundred percent certain that this song is about someone who gets picked on or messed with at work/school. Most likely a lab tech of some sort. He starts off with intense concentration on some special thing he's working on and says that he MUSN'T stumble, he MUSN'T make a mistake, but he's so tense that he does stumble, he does mess up. Some are angry and upset by his mistake, while others laugh at him. These bullies tell him that he has no idea who he really is, that he's just a loser. But he knows who he is, he's found the answer. He's VAN OCCUPANTHER! They say the world "chews you up and spits you out", so I believe the last few lines are a play on this cliche. The singer wants to runaway from the pain of it all (stay out of sight for a long time) |
| Midlake – some of them were superstitious Lyrics | 18 years ago |
To me, winter seems like a bad thing in this song. It's always being mentioned when referred to the people the narrator doesn't wish to join. They're freezing and cold. I think the song can be taken two ways: Superstitious people are people who don't want to take risk. They sit there being afraid and ignoring the beauty of life b/c of their fear of it. The singer doesn't want to join them b/c he knows that things are okay that something as simple as the sun can make people happy. The very end of the song talks about the "others" again. They're missing out on life and dying off. You only get one life, one chance to live. "When you're gone, you're gone", so make the best of what time you have. Life is going to hurt regardless b/c it hurts for someone (everyone) and YOU'RE someone. The other, more controversial interpretation: The singer is denouncing religion. He's saying that the superstitious people need someone to protect them and keep track of them like children. This someone might mean God. But the singer doesn't believe in all that, he just believes in having fun and a good time, enjoying life to the fullest. He can't help but scream YEAH! at how happy he is. |

| Midlake – balloon maker Lyrics | 18 years ago |
To me the balloon maker represents innocence and freedom. At first, I didn't see him as a balloon like weather-balloon/hot-air balloon maker, but rather a man who makes balloon animals and makes people happy, telling them to "come out and see the sun"/go outside and play. But now I think it is a hot-air balloon maker, who tries to lift people up in his balloons and takes them to on travels that aren't meant to fast (not meant for speed) but just slow scenic routes fo those who enjoy the journey. After the boy rejects his friend (you), he states that there are others like him and the balloon maker and he must wait. The balloon maker packs his things away and ask the narrator to go waste time and to see the sun as well, but again the narrator rejects this, b/c he feels that rather than him going alone and being "all they'ev got", that there are others. I think the narrator says that there's people who want to come with them, people who want to enjoy life slowly and take in the scenary. The balloon maker agrees b/c he too shares the same dream. Unfortunately, before they can do anything, balloons are outlawed, and all that's left is the dream, the hope, the faith that people will stop trying to go so fast and move slowly, like a balloon travelling through the clouds, wasting time. |

| Midlake – We Gathered In Spring Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think its about a man who left to become something great, like a giant. He talks about how people "used to" live three hundred years, meaning that there was a time before all this where there was this seeming immortality, this great power that made men seem like giants. However, now that he's finally reached "the hill" or what he thought would be the peak of his life, he realizes all the better things he left behind in pursuit of greed. A gathering in spring sounds like a picnic or some happy moment shared by a group of people on a beautiful day. That's how it USED TO BE but now it is nothing but a dying hilltop for him, and the memories of how things used to be. |

| Andrew Bird – A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I can't believe i just wrote an entire thing out and when i went to click send, I got an error: Let me try to sum it up all the same: The "nervous tic motions" are essentially double takes. We doubletake when we see something new and interesting. The people who sing this song are talking about how they've become "overperscribed", perhaps too dependant on either medicinal pills or illegal substances, but I strongly doubt this is a song about drugs. Perhaps they're merely referring to being overperscribed on the more mundane and boring parts of life. The scientist are speaking not only of human conception (I find it hard to believe sperm and eggs are "substances" in anyway), but rather of humanities birth from the primordial goop. ANYTHING could have caused us to not exist. But through fate alone, simple cells combined and grew to substances, and substances collided and here we are, existing today, but mentally, if not physically wasting away. I think this song is a call for more "nervous tic motions" or more people causing others to doubletake by being unique and "waking up"! |

| Andrew Bird – Weather Systems Lyrics | 19 years ago |
to me its all about being truly, deeply and utterly in love. It might be that weather systems are his thoughts but I think of the song on a much larger scale. I think weather systems are the measurements of great things (like the weather). She's trying to see the measure of how great he is. Not in a "oh you're so great" kinda way, but more of a, "you're such a wonderful person to be around and I'm glad that I'm with you" kind of way. She says when he turns the soil another cloud begins to boil, makes me think of, when he walks (as in walks away) it rains. A lot of times songs about rain are about crying. So I think that means when he leaves she cries or it makes the world sad. I think "the wine" is "the good stuff of life" or the happy moments that they share. "Don't spill the wine" is like saying, "don't let go of this great thing we have." But as I move to close this comment, I start to question what I literally just typed. If rain is metaphorical for crying, maybe weather systems aren't measures, but more of a metaphor for the chaos of the weather and likewise the chaos of emotions. |

| Rufus Wainwright – 14th Street Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Now, I have read any commentary for this song, so all I can give is my interpretation, via a stanza-by-stanza explanation: "You've got my lost brother's soul My dear mother's eyes A brown horse's man and my uncle's name" I think this just means that there are a lot of aspects in the person he's with/was with that he remembers from other people and things in his life. The soul of his brother, the eyes of his mother, a horse's mane (maybe reference to facial hair), and uncle's name. "You walked me down 14th Street for the doctor to meet after thoughts of the grave In the home of the brave and of the weak" I honestly think, when I hear this, that the 2nd guy is taking Rufus to the doctor to get checked up on for AIDS. The thoughts of the grave aspect along with being brought to a doctor really enforces this. Home of the brave and weak is obviously a reference to us Americans. He may consider himself and others like him weak, or maybe he's saying people who can't accept gays are weak. I'm not sure. "But why'd you have to break all my heart..." This stanza, that gets repeated often, means that something went wrong with the relationship (obviously). More than likely the 2nd man got scared and ran away before the results could even be given. Or maybe he did test positive and the guy ran away. Just b/c Rufus sings this song doesn't necessarily mean its his story. He may have heard it from someone else and been inspired. "I could have clipped and saved and planted in the garden..." This reminds me of clipping coupons in order to save money on groceries and stuff. He could also be talking all about the garden, but i think the general meaning is, "We could have been happy together, but now I guess I'll have to find someone else". "I'd love to sit and watch..." He's just pining over how much he adored this man and how much of a joy it was to be with him. And, he never wants him to change. The Bo Peep reference makes me feel that maybe he felt that he had found what he was looking for, what most people were looking for, "true love". but then... "Why'd you have to break all my heart...." This stanza says that he wishes he could have "ripped apart" and gotten away before he really fell in love. Now he wonders if there will be others out there for him, "hearts that will deliver". "Don't ever change, don't ever worry Because I'm coming back home tomorrow To 14th Street where I won't hurry And where I'll learn how to save, not just borrow And they'll be rainbows and we will finally know" This whole stanza seems like his resolve to say he'll come back to 14th street tomorrow, and he wont' run, he won't be desperate. He'll come normal b/c he knows things are gonna be alright. He knows that he'll learn how to save something (obviously not money, but maybe love and time) instead of just borrowing it (one night stands, short flings, etc.). And they'll be rainbows (everything will be beautiful) "and we will finally know" Can be taken two ways: (1) They'll finally know whether or not he has AIDS (2) He'll finally know if there are others in the world who will love him. |

| Midlake – Young Bride Lyrics | 19 years ago |

This song is so freakin sad once you see the video and truly understand what its about. It turns out the girl actually has some bad disease that causes her to be bed ridden. The song is describing the effects of the illness on her. Its really really sad, and I'm depressed now. |

Throw it all away Put your guns down and walk away from this Lets lose ourselves Find somewhere quiet and run away Cause theres no one left for us to blame War has gotten so out of hand that there's no clear enemy anymore. Its a shame we're all dying (Speaks for itself) And do you think you deserve your freedom Of all these things I do for you, all the choices I make, I question if you're worth the effort since you don't have to make half the choices I do. How could you send us all far away from home When you know damn well that this is all Why send us out here when you know we can't really accomplish anything by being here? I would still lay down my life for you In spite of all of this, I'll still die for you all, b/c thats my job as a soldier. And do you think you deserve your freedom No I dont think you do Theres no justice in the world Theres no justice in the world And there never was |

| Figurine – IMpossible Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I thikn this song is about the ultimate failure of most long distance relationships. He's IMing her b/c he wants to talk to her, but she obviously isn't interested. She says that 12 Point font can't replace 5 minutes w/ you face to face. Its ironic that a major band like Figurine made a song along the lines of EXACTLY how I feel at certain times. Its like, people don't treat AIM/ Instant Messaging like its a real conversation but it really is. Its just like talking on the phone. Feel really bad for the guy b/c of the last line though: "I'm still here to type to you, if you want me to" "I don't want you to" |
| At the Drive-In – Non-Zero Possibility Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think its actually about that guy who works at a morgue/funeral home in order to "pretty up" corpses. Like, if you've ever been to a funeral, the body is made to look decent and clean so as not to disturb you moreso than you already are. I mean think about it: "Lets just paint your pretty face" But I still do like the AIDS idea. |
| James Figurine – 55566688833 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
To me it definetely sounds like the decay of a relationship caused by the distance (and comfort) speaking through texting can provide. In the line "I guess i didn't text you back quite fast enough", its almost a parody. In this day and age of technology, we expect everything instaneously. Ironically, it would have taken him less time to just call her than it would for him to text her. Everything about this song is rushed to a point. Its sped up at an almost frantic pace. This is most prevelant in the part where he's "calling it off" by typing goodbye, but realizing he can "save time" by leaving the "good part" off. A relationship defined by conversations over text message...really sad when you think about it. |

| Destroyer – From Oakland to Warsaw Lyrics | 20 years ago |
OH my God. I have never heard such a beautiful song before in my life. I absolutely LOVE this song. The way I interpret it, is an answer to the prayers of people who are hurt in life. Hurt b/c of the "air (that) comes out" of the kids (who were "all wrong" (about you). Hurt b/c they "lost their swerve" and "lost their swing". He says he "knows your style" your "drastic desires". Like he understands that you want more in this life then you're getting. When he says "you thought you'd heard of everything", I think he means to say, you think its just the bad stuff, but HELL NO ,there's good in this world too. "Warm yourself by the fiery stage" (Get better, heal up, fix yourself) "Fiery' cause I lit it" (for you, to make you feel better). |
| Radiohead – Motion Picture Soundtrack (Kid A version) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Unfortunately Wallamange, the 20 second "hidden track" is still part of the song, its just thrown in that far out to get listeners to keep the music playing. I read somewhere that the pause in between and afterwards is so long so that listeners can "get ready for the play-again" (sounds pretty pompous to me, but I guess its possible). Anyways, my interpretation is as follows: The song really seems to be about how life isn't anything like the movies. In the movies you almost always get some resolution or some sort of closure and comfort, but reality is never like that. People want romance and true love and happiness with someone, when in reality, most settle for cheap sex. The "pills part" and "get back to your arms" I think is more or less one metaphor meaning "Help me lose sight of reality and return to fiction". I mean, really think about it. If you watch a lot of movies, you realize, none of it is ever real. Even the movies that try to be "realistic" aren't. Everything else always turns out with some fictional ending or some stretch that just doesn't happen in real life. "I think you're crazy" is probably meaning "I think you're crazy (for believing that everything can work out, b/c the reality is, things rarely ever do and we just can't have that happy ending that we want). |
| Coldplay – Fix You Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think the song lyrics pretty much tell the story. I mean, to me its pretty plain what he's saying. Martin himself is taking like he's the role of the hero/friend who is there for you when things just aren't right. He'll "try to fix you" or make you feel better. The ignite your bones thing is just like saying "warm you up inside/make you feel better". I can absolutely relate because I can't tell you how many people come to me pretty much crying and asking for help. Its nice helping people and in a way it makes you feel better too. |

| Gorillaz – Don't Get Lost in Heaven Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Seriously every song in this album ties together, its AMAZING! Although some disagree with me, "White Light", I think is a song about cocaine, and here we hear about "crack on the corner". Maybe DARE is where someone dies, but I can't really interpet that song and even then I don't think thats what happens. "Fire coming out of a Monkey's Head" is a SPECIFIC reference to the previous song. I think this song, like "Demon Days", is about coming out of the darkness, but whereas "Demon Days" feels more about rejoicing that you're finally free and in the son, this feels more like the actual path to freedom. "Dont get lost in heaven", to me, feels kinda like saying, don't look back. Anyways, I really like this song, it really does remind me of heaven. Beautiful singing from the choir. |
| Gorillaz – Dirty Harry Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HOW EVERY SONG IN THIS ALBUM TIES TOGETHER! Here's my take: "I need a gun to keep myself from harm" is how it always starts out in life. That is to say, people feel they need to be stronger or protect themselves from the evils in this world by buy buying guns among other things. But notice how the song shifts. First its almost like upbeat, resembling the happiness and goodness personified by children. Then all the sudden you get this in your face rapper singing about how hardcore: Orders given to me is: Strike and I'm thunder with lightning fast reflexes on constant alert From the constant hurt that seems limitless with no dropping pressure Seems like everybody's out to test ya 'til they see your brake Even he "remembers when he used to dance", b/c even though society changes us, most of the time making us harder people, we still remember what we were before, when we were young and all we wanted to do was dance... |

| Gorillaz – Hip Albatross Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Oh wow, I just saw Dawn of the Dead (the original George A Romero one) and boy is it creepy. This song fits PERFECTLY with it. According to some research I did, albatrosses are said to be the "bad luck birds", apparently. Crows are bad luck on land and I guess albatross are bad luck by sea. Maybe its a metaphor for like a "sea of zombies?" Just as a side note, Gorillaz seems to really like this movie b/c they use a musical number from it as the Intro for their new album "Demon Days" (its the part where the two guys are outside the mall, getting ready to drive two trucks and block off the entrance, and the zombies are all crowding around the trucks). |

| Gorillaz – O Green World Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think this is a big ironic song. The song is called O Green World, but the way the music plays as well as the lyrics, suggest nothing but technology and how its taking over. "Bring me back to fallen town. Where someone is still alive" is like saying, take me back to the country/farmlands b/c the city streets run rampant with soulless zombies. "I'm made of you and you of me. But where are we?" is like saying how technology is connected with our lives but it'll never be the same as human contact "Sells to lie. Phone to talk...Cause it seems so little to you". is like talking about how commercialism ruins us. This particular stanza makes me think of big business and really rich people who can lie and make huge profits off the crap they sell. Phones w/ talk you stars are like cellphones. Cause it seems so little to you i think refers to life w/o technology. "but now you're in love, you know..I hope sex and drugs rust into myself, holy. It feels holy...it feels like you're with your father in the place you lave..." is saying how technology has finally become a part of us. Maybe the greatest human contact, sex or even drugs will some how end up as part of technology. It feels holy is like saying, it feels like we're in heaven just b/c we have all of our stuff. At least, thats what I'm thinking. |

| Gorillaz – Feel Good Inc. Lyrics | 20 years ago |

| Gorillaz – El Mañana Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This is a really beautiful song. I need to listen to it again before I comment on the meaning. | |
| Gorillaz – Feel Good Inc. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think the song is pretty self explanatory if you take time to think about it. Plus the meaning is said on the website (about how all their fame and success and excessive partying has lead them to be locked away in a tower and what not). But I just wanted to say that, I play guitar and I learn all my stuff by playing what my favorite bands play (including Gorillaz). And I was really surprised that that little solo by Noodle is only the 7th then 5th fret on the 1st string, played over and over until at one point you end it with a 5th to 3rd fret. It doesn't take away anything from the song or anything, but when you listen to it, it sounds so much more complicated, but all it is is 5-7-5-7-5-7...5-3 and thats it. I mean...WOW |

I agree that the meaning of the song is expressed in the lyrics. Its very nice to hear something different for a change and I love whenever any throws a violin (or violins in this case) into a song, it just always make it better ^_^ |

| Gorillaz – Ghost Train Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I ABSOLUTELY love the say this song "moves". It really feels like we're on a train or something. I think this song is deeper than I can grasp, but what I get from it at the moment is that its about a "Ghost Train" (obviously) and said train has come to take the souls of the dead away. He talks about having "suicide for his baby", maybe meaning that he wants her to come ride the train with him. Then says "Living up until I want it", maybe meaning living until you're ready to die, or ready to take a ride on the train. The "Dreamin' down a poison ivy tree" has got me really confused though =^\ |

| Gorillaz – Every Planet We Reach Is Dead Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Oh my GOD this song is deep. I can only scratch the surface but I'm gonna' do my best. To me this song seems a lot like how I (and I'm sure a few others feel) in that we don't feel adequete enough to pursue the person we love. Only God knows that we love them b/c we keep our attraction a secret. We dream about what life would be like with that person and how much we'd love them, but in the end, we still have no idea about what "we are going to do". The "When you go down...", has me really confused, in that I'm not sure how it relates to the rest of the song. Perhaps what I"m getting at is, how do "sick and selfless" go together? |
| Gorillaz – White Light Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I like the way this song plays out in that it starts off with what sounds like some hyped up guy just starting his own wild and crazy song, much like we all do. What I mean to say is he just sings "white light" and makes the guitar, bass, and drum noises all with his mouth, as though he's forming it, and then what he is thinking slowly comes to life as the instruments actually start to appear... Anyways, onto the song's meaning. As much as I hate to say it, b/c I know its been said often and has pissed off a lot of people, I have to say that this song sounds like a song about cocaine or some sort of drug, maybe even just alcohol (b/c he says alcohol). If anyone has bought the CD, look on the inside jacket cover, it shows some drunk bum holding up what looks to be a new type of energy drink but it says something like 500 ml, 100% proof. If anyone knows ANYTHING about alcohol, the proof is how much alcohol is in said volume, well 100% means...ITS ALL ALCOHOL. Hell, the more I think about it, the more I feel its about drinking and what not, but I keep wanting to say cocaine b/c thats the only thing that I can think of that can be described as a "white light". But perhaps i'm trying to be too literal... |

| Gorillaz – Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head Lyrics | 20 years ago |
This is an EXTREMELY well put together narrative. Here is my take on it: To me this song seems like the idealistic fantasies that we all have. In essence we either all want to be Happyfolk or we feel like we already are. The Strangefolk represent reality, in that, there's always going to be someone or something that comes along to ruin happiness for everyone else. The Happyfolk were innocent and completely blind to the evil the Strangefolk brought b/c they couldn't see their eyes. This is a lot like life itself in that we often can't see when bad things are going to happen even if we have multiple signs (shadows, nightmares, etc.). Its that whole “ignorance is bliss” concept, only amplified. Ultimately greed leads to the downfall of mankind, and that’s why in digging for the precious jewels, the Strangefolk woke the spirit of the mountain. There are two ways to interpret the mountain (IMO). You could say that it has always been just a volcano that became active once disturbed, or that there is some true spiritual meaning behind it, in that God punishes those who are evil. But unfortunately, the Happyfolk were caught up in all this, just b/c they couldn't see the eyes of the Strangefolk... As depressing as it is, I think this song may just be saying, there never can nor will be a land of Happyfolk b/c Strangefolk will always come to inevitably destroy it. “Oh little town in USA, the time has come to see There's nothing you believe you want But where were you when it all came down on me? Did you come it down on..." I can’t be sure about this last line, but I think it’s a statement about the U.S. and how we as Americans may feel we have it all over here, but then again we do so little to help foreign nations (Although I don’t really agree with that). Or maybe, just maybe, 2-D is saying that Americans are the Strangefolk and somehow this song ties back to our going to war b/c of 9/11, and the “mining for gems” being one big metaphor for us “digging for oil”. Also I agree with JeffKaos71 in that castrophony is just catastrophe and cacophony mixed together. While it is indeed a made up word, I think it really works well with the song and gives a more powerful description of the noise and the chaos. For those of you who don’t know, a cacophony is a “harsh discordant sound, or a very loud noise, or group of noises.” |
