The line "There's someone i'd like to see/ she never mentions a word to me/ she reads leviathan" is interesting, (and supports the hypothesis that this is not a happy song). This "someone" doesnt feel like they owe anything to the singer... and the book "leviathan" is a book about how government basically doesn't owe anything to the people it governs. Maybe the singer is saying that people aren't supporting each other and he's trying to convince himself all he needs is, "a day full of honest work and a roof that never leaks" to get along in an apathetic society.

The urgency and need for Home is so apparent in the pacing of the music itself. There's something so manic and exciting in how the song is layered with this wonderfully hurried beat below that disonant guitar solo. Love it!

i'm pretty sure this song is a lot more pessimistic than anyone is really pointing out. 'bring me the news all about the town, how it struggles to help all the farmers out during harvest time.' This particular bit seems to play on the theme of 'Roscoe' - harvest time used to be an extremely vital time in society, requiring many hands on the farm. Now, there is no help for farmers, and a seemingly depleted emphasis on the importance of agriculture in society. Of course, this isn't directly the point of the song, just a metaphor for what it's trying to say which, in my opinion, is that we don't place enough importance on things that drive society, and too much on things that are not nearly as important.

Interesting how they carry over the "rain makes the roof leak" idea from "Roscoe." Again, great sound.

Another great song about the simple things. How a simple home is comfort enough for him: "Bring me a day full of honest work and a roof that never leaks I'll be satisfied" Shows this particularly.

"Bring me the news all about the town How it struggles to help all the farmers out During harvest time" - This verse is just genius. How we don't need to worry about all that goes on in the world because it hardly helps us survive and do what we need to do to be satisfied with ourselves.

I love Midlake and their outlook on life, so... geniune and true.

Also, I really like the way the line I think I'll head home builds up throughout... s'very... flowing.

sounds like it doesn't take too much to make the singer happy...just the things that may have went on when he was home, the familiar problems...

the begining of this song reminds me of the opening credits to an old sitcom.....but i love it

The whole of this CD seems to be about the past and times when life was a far more simple affair, when life could be enjoyed for free and without exploitation. The mention of the Leviathan by Thomas Hobbs seems to be important as 'spdcheetah' has said, order over anarchy. I think maybe they prefer the order and structure of the past over the more deconstruced, anarchistic free-for-all society we seem to live in today where the rights of the individual are more important than the community, to the detriment of all.
