Action Action – The Short Weekend Begins With Longing Lyrics 14 years ago
The title of the song comes from the movie American Splendor. In the movie, Harvey Pekar is particularly lonely in one segment, and the words "The Short Weekend Begins With Longing....." appear on the screen.

The Six Parts Seven – A Blueprint of Something Never Finished (Instrumental Version) Lyrics 14 years ago
It's on Everywhere and Right Here and definitely is instrumental. You must be referring the version on Lost Notes.

The Ataris – The Ghost of Last December Lyrics 14 years ago
Sounds like it's about having a one night stand, and the sadness of knowing the relationship can't run deeper.

Anberlin – A Heavy Hearted Work of Staggering Genius Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it's kind of sarcastic.... it's a simple interlude, obviously it's no work of staggering genius, but it is slightly heavy hearted.

The Ataris – From the Last, Last Call Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm pretty sure it's true, I've read it on a few websites. As for what the rest of the song is about, I have no idea. It's all over the place.

The Early November – Everything's So Cold... But You're So Hot Lyrics 14 years ago
I went through the exact same thing. One of the most painful things that can ever happen to a relationship.

You can tell Ace is pouring his heart and soul into this one.

Wilco – The Late Greats Lyrics 15 years ago
Are The Late Greats an actual band, or did Jeff make it up for the purpose of writing the song?

Ben Kweller – Different But the Same Lyrics 15 years ago
It's all about changing yourself for the better. You're different because you've gotten rid of all your problems, but you've retained all your positive aspects, so you're still the same.

The Pretenders – My City Was Gone Lyrics 15 years ago
Great lyrics, very true.

The city referred to in the song is Chrissy Hynde's hometown of Akron, Ohio. South Howard is a section of Howard Street in Akron that was bulldozed to build the Innerbelt, a spur of highway that borders the downtown area. In the process, hundreds of businesses and homes were demolished. Many Akron residents also deem the Innerbelt unnecessary.

Also, I'm from Cuyahoga Falls, so I get an extra thrill hearing my hometown get name-checked!

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – Totally Natural Lyrics 15 years ago
is it just me or could this song possibly be written about elvis presley? elvis was infamous for shaking his hips on television, and in his later years turned to drugs and alcohol.

doesn't their (ex) bassist Neil Busch sing this song?

The Movielife – Taking It Out And Chopping It Up Lyrics 15 years ago
Awesome song. Surprised nobody's commented. The "Phil" they're referring to in the song is probably the band's bassist Phil Navetta. And judging by his appearance, you wouldn't want him to have to make you shut up!

The Gloria Record – Salvation Army Lyrics 15 years ago
does anyone else think the piano at the beginning of this song sounds like muzak they'd play in a thrift store? like, *cough cough* the salvation army?

Sunny Day Real Estate – The Rising Tide Lyrics 15 years ago
I find this song rather eerie. it's the last song on what turned out to be the band's final album, and it has a rather strong sense of closure and finality. the last chord hangs on for over a minute and a half before it finally fades away. its almost like the band is trying to hang onto their final recorded note for as long as possible, like they don't want it to end.

R.E.M. – Cuyahoga Lyrics 15 years ago
i live in northeast ohio, not even a mile from the cuyahoga river. to this day, the river is still horribly polluted. the allusion to red water also could be due to pollution, because pollution can sometimes turn the water red. instead of clear, the water is a very murky brown.

The Starting Line – Greg's Last Day Lyrics 15 years ago
It's obviously a song about how he felt when his best friend moved away. This song holds a huge meaning for me, because my best friend moved 300 miles away three years ago, and i miss him like crazy. thank god we kept in touch.

Death Cab for Cutie – Champagne from a Paper Cup Lyrics 15 years ago
personally, i think it's about him being at an unenjoyable party. the paper cup represents the cheapness of the party, because you're used to drinking champagne from a glass. once he realizes that they're playing R&B, he decides its time to go.

R.E.M. – Nightswimming Lyrics 15 years ago
this song speaks so much to me, and it makes me want to cherish every damn moment i spend with those close to me. i think its just about remembering a night you shared with your friends before you all went your separate ways for whatever reason ("september's coming soon")

The Juliana Theory – Piano Song Lyrics 15 years ago
this song is beautiful. i'm glad i picked up music from another room when i did, because it helped me through some hard times. there are so many people i could dedicate this song to, but especially to my friend joel, who's brother committed suicide.

Relient K – High of 75 Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is about how emotions can change in an instant, but life always gets better in the end. Also, Matt Thiessen himself said that it's about the unpredictable weather in northeast ohio, where the band are from. for example, it snowed 4 inches one day, then two days later it was perfectly sunny and 60 degrees out.
