The Driftwood Sinn Lyrics

In this, the year of our Lord
I will die knowing I am not your only son
The faded sounds of windchimes in the distance
Oil platforms burn like candelabras

Does good come from deep within the soul
Or is it just an urge to be
So much finer than we are
How hard
So much finer than we are

Why don't we just say what we really feel
Was it good to wake up in some stranger's arms
Did you like the foul taste of his lips
Did his lover like the taste of yours
Sweet revenge never felt so good

Does good come from deep within the soul
Or is it just an urge to be
So much finer than we are
How hard
So much finer than we are

Scattered driftwood
Sounds of heartbeats
Smell of sulfer fills the salty air
We drown in our own blood
Oh God help me please
What have I done
What have I done

Does good come from deep within the soul
Or is it just an urge to be
So much finer than we are
How hard
So much finer than we are
Everything is so meaningless
(How hard
So much finer than we are)
Yet so meaningful
(So much finer than we are)
Though I was to die alone
(So much finer than we are)
So tonight we are alone

Good job on the lyrics, considering how hard it is to hear what he says in the chorus, but "scattered judgement" should be "scattered driftwood" and "who can help please" should be Oh God help me please", or at least I'm pretty sure. Kris said in an acoustic show that this song is based loosely on two campers who were murdered and whose bodies were floating down a river" or something like that, and it also contains the familiar welcome the night theme of trying to find oneself

Thanks for the help. The chorus took me about 10 listens to get. I think the vocals could have been mixed better on the whole album.

Where can I find this song? It's the only one off Welcome the night I haven't heard

iTunes. Do you have Oh Kansas City? It's an acoustic b-side, kinda country. Cool stuff. Also, do you have A Second Dictum? It's the only one I don't have.

I have heard Oh, Kasas City, but i havent been able to copy it off Rhapsody, and I've never even heard the mention of A Second Dictum. Do you have a link where it's talked about?

www.the-amb.com It's the functioning version of the old Ataris message board. Go into the music section and read the last few pages of the thread about Welcome the Night. It mentions A Second Dictum, although there is some doubt that it was even recorded.

Here's a link to the events that inspired this song: http://crime.about.com/b/a/256919.htm

Two Christian summer camp counselors were murdered in their sleep on a beach in California, and there were various clues left behind, some of them were carved in the driftwood on the beach, others were left in a guestbook in a hut made out of driftwood.

"candelabras" not "candle operas", by the way.
