Sia – Elastic Heart Lyrics | 6 years ago |
The molestation would be too straight forward and less art, as it's not abstract. I never got that from the video - I got a child personality attacking a grown up while he keeps trying - time and time again just to get rejected and treated badly. Watch the beginning - or at 2mins - he's always reacting to her. At the end he can't reach her even with his anger until he gives up and breaks. It's hideously sad - the end when he's trying to hold on and she's pulling him through the cage: Shia's and Maddie's performance is stunning. Personally, I think it's very much a broken person (the female persona) emotionally abusing the male (but you put your own experiences so having been on the receiving end). It goes with the lyrics - which are pure denial and self bigging up that she will survive. "I'm still fighting for peace" is the key to the whole thing... stop fighting, be still, and be at peace. |
Kaki King – Life being what it is Lyrics | 6 years ago |
"Life being what it is, one dreams of revenge" is a Paul Gauguin quote. Discovered this through one of Joe Abercrombie's books. |
Gary Clark Jr. – When My Train Pulls In Lyrics | 7 years ago |
@[ctrick1123:14926] always taken that line to mean hopeless and trapped. Either way, crap place to be. |
Pixies – Bagboy Lyrics | 7 years ago |
@[saunders096:14606] Same here very much who reviews the reviewers? He obviously had a personal problem with someone who had been eating stew or something while interviewing them with zero manners. Reviewers are arsehat, failed artists of one kind or another providing next to nothing to the world. |
Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse – Revenge Lyrics | 8 years ago |
"Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves..." |
Dead Can Dance – The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove Lyrics | 9 years ago |
@[Alphateam:2907] It's the end of a relationship > "domestic graveyard" - they're living together. "Feigned affections wash over me" - is the fact he's burnt out from her running him down all the time. |
Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse – Just War Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Just War = A war that is justified and right. The corrupt and idiotic of the US claim that the Iraqi invasion was a Just War and not an invasion over capturing oil rights and control. "Just War - you said it wouldn't hurt" - everyone was lied to about it. "Is this just war?" a question about what it really was - it was just a war, and there was nothing just about it, a bunch of corrupt lying business men stripping resources for their own gain. "And furthermore will evolution diminish right in front of us" We're meant to be beyond this - some of us may be - most of us are not: people are stupid. "By December my head returned into the noose." Saddam Hussein was hanged in December. "Goodbye, sleep tight" Go back to sleep, sheep. |
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – We Came Along This Road Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I always thought he was referring to himself: "My wifes lover" = him. "smoking gun" = temper "There never was no other I was your friend Till we came along this road" I think "momma" is a 70s referral to her. "Guns blazing at his hip" = full blown argument, when you just shoot to kill. Heavy words are very lightly thrown with force during arguments. It's just a breakup song, disguised a bit as being about murder. The only thing murdered was their relationship on all layers. |
Ben Howard – I Forget Where We Were Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Possibly autobiographical and if so there's a rather beautiful apology in here. He is watching the news, and seeing the state of the world and the atrocities man is able to inflict on each other and the earliest opportunity, and takes it a little too to heart. "Oh, your mariner’s mouth the wounded with the wounder's whip" think points toward an argument between them, and she is cursing at him for not seeing "Don't take it so seriously...Only time is ours". They're both right, you can't ignore the wolves at the door, but you also have to realise what you hold immediately in front of you. |
Queens of the Stone Age – The Vampyre Of Time And Memory Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I think you're right - it sounds very much like depression. Depression makes you sit around doing nothing. It also links in with the lyrics: "To be vulnerable is needed most of all If you intend to truly fall apart" Depression is linked with memory loss. I hope you're out of it, a horrible place to be. I personally think it's about a coping mechanism many people employ where they're not actually out of depression but actually manage to get on with life. So they're not just sat around. As for does anyone getting it right... no. The foolish stumble into the easiest paths or leave a trail of devastation in their wake. The arrogant claim to, but they're just narcissists who leave just as much devastation behind them. |
Lost In The Trees – Golden Eyelids Lyrics | 12 years ago |
As a color she'll rise From the water A golden light Wanders with The birds Where have you been? What have you seen? All the peace When you come Following I'll tell it's worth it all Your voice sings red Behind your golden eyelids Are drawers of your hair But no tears now that Your cancer is fed Your soul shielded Your voice sings red My twins were born Far too early Cut out and laid In a bed of heat Lead me from this dark house With your gold fingers Turned this wicked touching Into a golden church Please tell me it's worth it all Your heart beats red Behind your golden eyelids Float with birds in your hair No words That your mouth left unread My arms are your bed Your heart beats red You have such a good heart For wandering Al the peace when I come following You told me it was worth it all My eyes see red Behind your golden eyelids Beyond the last words you said I'll follow All my flown away kids Let your arms be our beds And my eyes see red |
Soulsavers – You Will Miss Me When I Burn Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Well, as it's blanked them out... [Palace Brothers Cover] When you have no one No one can hurt you When you have no one No one can hurt you In the corners There is light That is good for you And behind you I have warned you There are awful things Will you miss me When I burn And will you eye me With a longing It is longing That I feel To be missed For to be real When you have no one No one can hurt you When you have no one No one can hurt you Will you miss me When I burn And will you close The others' eyes It would be Such a favor If you would blind them There is absence There is lack There are wolves here abound You will miss me When I turn around When you have no one No one can hurt you When you have no one No one can hurt you |

Tool – Aenema Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Chill out - sure there's a lot of dumb people in the world. Sure there's a lot posers. Music taste is not always a good sign of intellectual or emotional maturity, so don't use it as a marker. I know you feel alone in the world, being more intelligent segregates you. You're not alone though, there are many people out there. Yes, you're probably right that you can see things that others don't. Seriously, go find a book on Zen, Alan Watts is a good place to start. Learn to realise you can't change this, so there is no reason to get stressed about it? Life will start to become a lot easier. |
Tom Waits – God's Away on Business Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Very astute observation from Tom. This song is probably more relevent than it was 20 years ago. Don't take God to be the literal/literary (take you're pick) figure, it's an allegory, to say "No-one's getting us out of this mess." |
Micah P Hinson – It's Been So Long Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It's been so long Since I've seen you, Oh Open hands and teeth And heart and dreams I can never can compete And I don't even know your name Unpronounceable Unsatisfactable my Life seems so grey Tell me there's not a way That all these stars are the same It's been so long Since I've seen you, oh Open hands and teeth And hearts and dreams I can never can compete And I don't even know your name Unpronounceable Unsatisfactable my Life seems so grey Tell me there's not a way That all these stars are the same |

David Usher – Black Black Heart Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Sex and Diamonds = Women and Bling. Earthly pleasures at it were. Kings and Queens = the idiots in the media, raised as idols and people to follow. Simply, it's about the idiot society we live in. |
Pink Floyd – Comfortably Numb Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It's about Waters being shot full of muscle-relaxant due to hepatitus. He's repeated this several times throughout. People who go on about it being about Heroin because they've done it: Well done, don't you feel better about yourself knowing you're that stupid that you bowed down to peer pressure! *Round of applause* I'm sure the guys in Pink Floyd would love to have you round for tea. |
Interpol – The Lighthouse Lyrics | 12 years ago |
These are correct, except you missed "And I want that" in the middle". Well done tho, the ones listed are completely wrong. |
Beck – Lost Cause Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Always figured it was a fairly worn out song, still in love with her, but he's got nothing left to give. "Your sorry eyes cut through bone, make it hard to leave you alone" He's not a bastard, he doesn't like seeing her hurt. "Leave you here wearing your wounds, waving your guns at somebody new" People wear their emotional scars like a badge. Broken people tend to fight others for no reason. The other bit that explains the song: " There's a place where you are going You ain't never been before No one laughing at your back now " He's not going to be like others that have damaged her, by just using her. " No one's standing at your door That's what you thought love was for " She's too dependent on him and needs to get a better grip on the reality of love, that it is conditional (seems to be a rather large scale problem women have), and if you fuck over people they'll give up on you. |
Tom Waits – God's Away on Business Lyrics | 12 years ago |
The song was probably written before Enron went under. I think it's just a general song about shitty humans being shitty to each other. |
The Beautiful South – You Keep It All In Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Never thought it was about domestic abuse. Just more that the bloke keeps all his feelings bottled up, and although he did feel like knifing her in the heart, he didn't. The crimes are other things he's done, that he thinks he probably shouldn't tell people. |
St. Vincent – Marry Me Lyrics | 12 years ago |
"As for me, I have to agree I'm as fickle as a paper doll being kicked by the wind When I touch down again I'll be in someone else's arms" The crux of the song. It's very cynical view of Christianity, she's saying Mary and Joseph had sex. Which they did, as Jesus has brothers and sisters in the Bible. I love pointing out the ridiculousness of the religious who don't even know their own religion. A holy fool is still a fool. I just don't see how anyone reading the lyrics above think it's romantic or about a sexless relationship. You'll be telling me that U2 "One" is a lovely song next. It's a very clever twist on men asking naive women to marry them just to get in their pants. |
Alexisonfire – You Burn First Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Pop-Punk? How does this sound like Green Day? |
The Libertines – What A Waster Lyrics | 13 years ago |
What a waster, what a fucking waster You pissed it all up the wall Round the corner where they chased it Theres tears coming out from everywhere The citys hard, the citys fair Get back inside you've got nothing on now I aint yer bleedin enemy, you two bob cunt When she wakes up in the morning She writes down all her dreams Reads like the book of revelations Or the Beano or the unabridged Ulysses Oh I really wanna know So tell me, where does all the money go? Where does all the money go? Straight, straight up her nose! And I never really liked it anyway So much preferred it the other way, yeah What a divvy, what a fucking div Talking like a moron, walking like a spiv I was laying in bed, paying my rent She was knocking on the door for something that she lent her brother Meanwhile, from under the covers, she says Save me from tommorow Save me from tommorow Oh no, Oh no not me And I never really liked it anyway So much preferred it the other way yeah Never really liked it any way So much preferred it the other way yeah What a waster, what a fucking waster You pissed it all up the wall, Round the corner where they chased it Theres tears coming out from everywhere The citys hard the citys fair Get back inside you've got nothing on I aint yer bleedin enemy, you two bob cunt |

Tom McRae – Still Love You Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Soundcloud version he's put up is amazing. |
Clan of Xymox – No Words Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think that it's just two girls dancing together and one of them is looking at him. No homosexual overtones at all unless you put them their yourself. But agreed, amazing song. The first two albums are classics... shame recent efforts have been so formulaic goth. |
Tom McRae – The Girl Who Falls Down Stairs Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I would imagine he met the girl when she fell down stairs and he caught her or something, but they've split up. I don't get the abuse thing at all. He's just aware that he's not really in it anymore and is trying to run away. |

Soulsavers – Some Misunderstanding Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Check out the original version. Gene Clark's solo albums are brilliant. This is how covers should be, not like chart covers are. |
Gomez – How We Operate Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Watch the video - he definitely sings "It's in our eyes". Some odd descriptions - I think Ben uses some English idioms in this, as others haven't picked it up so easily. Pretty straight forward. "Turn me inside out and upside down" - Surprise him, mess his world up, make him look at things different. I think coupled with the next line, "And try to see things my way", he's saying surprise me and look at things my way. "Turn a new page, tear the old one out" - To turn over a new leaf, start afresh, and get rid of the old. Stop thinking about the past. It's relationships, grown up adult view of relationships not the hollywood wank that we're forcefed where we don't expect to argue or have to compromise. |
Josh Ritter – Southern Pacifica Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This, out of all of his songs, really really reminds me of Calexico. Such a lovely song, something wistful and optimistic about it. |

Tom McRae – Deliver Me Lyrics | 13 years ago |
No-ones commented on this? Simple, gorgeous, and per normal perfect. "But I've given up sleep and chasing you in my dreams" Blub. :( It's not saying he's given up, he's just stopped sleeping so he doesn't have to have those dreams anymore. |
Damien Jurado – Now That I'm In Your Shadow Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Sounds like depression. "The sun it doesn't move me like it used to." |
Arcade Fire – Ready to Start Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Yeah, I can see that. It's number 1 album in the UK... that's bizarre. I think McLusky has a fine point on selling out: "Selling out is down to opportunity, Let's pretend your wallet-chain is functional Obscurity is not a fucking badge!" |
Beck – Volcano Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Isn't it just he's not the happiest bunny, (cause people are crap -> I'm tired of people who only want to be pleased ) and he knows about the japanese girl jumped into the volcano to get away from it. However, he knows there's light at the end of the tunnel, so he just wants to warm his bones and deal with it. " I don't know if I'm sane But there's a ghost in my heart Who's trying to see in the dark I'm tired of people who only want to be pleased But I still want to please you " That's the stand out bit for me. Is he the only one that's sane that still sees goodness? Even in the face of people who are crap. |

Thrice – The Weight Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Oh shut up with the religion crap: "He who designed Love"/"Love for Jesus" It's about time people stopped hiding behind religion and act kindly to each other because that's the right thing to do, not because some imaginary friend told you to. Life's short and the worlds only crap because of humans. This is aimed from one person to another person. He's saying it doesn't matter that they're married, cause that's not worth the paper it's written on (or the clatrap about in the eyes of a "blind, deaf and dumb" god), he's doing it because that's what he wants to do and what's right. Marriage is down in Western Europe as less and less tax and law breaks are given to this antiquated thing. The people are taking their States back from the people with pretend friends. Divorce rates are up as we have more and more freedom of choices. However, we abuse this a lot.People are crap to each, jump into things while not knowing each other, while you're still in that stage of lying about WHO you actually are. The human problem of not understanding that people grow/shrink/change. LoveConquersAll: "Because a ring don't mean nothing if you can't haul the weight". Err no, it's not about "the institution" of marriage at all. Quite the opposite. He doesn't bash what you say, he infact says he's not going to do it because of marriage, he's doing it because of how he feels for her. |
