This is one of the most under-rated Slayer songs ever. This song is just INTENSELY brutal. It is the epitome of evil. Lyrically, I always took this song the way HallelujahWink described. Mainly the part towards the end where the character in the song takes on new powers. However, I usually take "Satan" in any band's songs to be a metaphor for the "darker force" that ever human has inside themselves. |

Damn, Necronic's right, I never noticed it before, but the laugh is at around 0:23 seconds into the song. I don't know, I think metal fans in general are too full of themselves and try to be elitists. I like a lot of types of music from Slayer, to Coltrane, to Anaal Nathrakh, to N.W.A., to Gustav Holst, to Opeth, to Slipknot, to Atheist, to Burzum etc. Why keep a closed mind? Most music is good, even if it is mainstream, what makes it NOT good to you is that it's simply not your taste, which is merely an opinion, and should be left at that. Either that or you're trying to be more "metal" than the next person and think you're looking cool doing so in the process, which is the case with a lot of metal fans. Slayer is the greatest band ever by the way. And no that's no just my opinion, it's a fact :) |

This song to me is either two things: 1) Physical Deformation, a person with a beautiful mind, who is trapped in a condemned body. "In a mirror I ask why, such a shame, wanting to die" "Unhappy as he exist, unhappy as he came" 2) It could also be againt the material world, or at least the first section of the song could be. It's more vague, andon first impressions it looks like the song is about how our world is based around physical beauty instead of inner beauty. |

I think this song is about how materialism and religion reroutes your life through a wasted and misguided path. The beginning talks about how there are just so many people who just simply live life, but don't enjoy. They don't care about themselves. The middle section asks you to not be materialistic, but to care about what's important in life. Then it goes on to tell you stop worshipping something you cannot see (God), stop wasting your life in a leap of blind faith (borrowed that line from Slayer). Instead, turn that around and apply that respect to yourself. Life YOUR life, instead of appeasing a god, and basing life on money.. hence the last line "Life to you is such a wretched task!" Also, I think the line "A candle lit from the bottom will soon start to burn", is a metaphor, that you suffer because you live life the opposite of how you should be living. |

There is nothing wrong with a poet or musician describing a war, a party, or even sporting symbols of either. There's nothing wrong with being a WW2 buff. I don't think this song is about WW1, nor the Gulf War. I think it's about WW2. They make a referenece to the Rhine river in Germany. The song also has a WW2 feel to it with the lyrics on "strafing air blood raid" and war crimes, and the whole supreme art of strategy thing. This song is my favorite Slayer song! |

I thinks is obvious that Slayer is neither pro war, nor anti-war. If it was pro-war they would be glorifying men who faught in war like it something to be proud of. They seem to be rather nuetral, because they aren't criticizing anything (spelling?). If you want an ANTI war song check out "Disposable Heroes" by Metallica And this song is not about WW2 at all. It's about a marine in Vietnam (don't you guys go to Slayer shows? Tom says it before they even play the song on what it's about). Besides look at the lyrics, it gives more clues to Vietnam combat than WW2 combat. Like "ambushed" "spikes impale" and the whole mine thing. Mines weren't a problem to WW2 infantry, and generally neither were snipers |

I disagree with Dahmer being a 'smart' serial killer. He didn't show any signs of killing smartly. The man left remains and heads in his freezer and refrigerator and almost got caught twice due to his victims escaping the apartment (the 2nd time is when the police found the heads and shit in his freezer). And Dahmer's mind was beyong dangerous. He was way beyond a sick bastard. It's hard to even comprehend what it is like to have sex with a dead body, but to be turned on by it? and do all the stuff he says. I think Slayer did a great job with this song's mood and it's lyrics. If anything describes the state of mind Dahmer was in, this song would be it! |

Well tommy112, I think Drag the Waters refers to searching deeper, not in the literal sense of deeper in water, but looking deeper into a person. There really is no reference in the song of murdering anybody. Also there's that part "He well knows what he'd find IF he looked a little deeper in you". Funny thing is, I used to wander why they were talking about dragging water in this song when I was younger.. :) |

| Nah I wouldn't say he's screaming like a black metal band. Black metal shrieks aren't like that (Emperor, Mayhem, 1349). I'd say those screams are Phil screams! He has one of the most unique styles of screaming ever. The lyrics in this song aren't all that powerful, but his vocal performance in the song is outstanding | |

I agree. Clearly it's about a significant other who he gets tired of her abuse and eventually kills her "Blood on my face that came from your face.. I put you away.. I shut you away" etc. What I like about this song is how Phil compares the act of "shedding skin" to the getting rid of his significant other, just basically getting rid of her for good, and "stepping out of himself" into a brand new "him"! Just as a snake sheds all of its iritating skin and leaves it behind, and after it sheds it brand new, clean, and purged |
