@[irishman44:1336] oh my goodness, so I posted this comment seven years ago when I was much younger. HA. You are correct- dopamine is the chemical in the brain that produces happiness. Drugs can trigger dopamine to flood the brain, producing euphoria and sometimes leading to addiction. Thank goodness I've taken a lot more classes in psychology since then- how funny I thought it was a street drug. Thanks for commenting back and bringing back this funny memory :) |

I think this song is about a man reminiscing on the all the cruel things he did as king/ruler, and now he's really regretting it all because he's afraid he won't be destined for heaven. he's trying to be optimistic. |

basically, Tesla was Edison's assistant when he was first starting out, and then Edison stole all of Tesla's amazing ideas (such as the lightbulb) and called them his own.

Such a hauntingly beautiful song. This song is all about how even when life is tough, we remember that Jesus went through it all before us and knows what we are going through, and He will lift us out of our troubles and comfort us in His beautiful, unfailing love. |

| Baha Men – Who Let the Dogs Out Lyrics

I'm pretty sure this song is a giant metaphor for anal sex. Doggy style?
The lyric is actually "You put a woman in front and her man behind
I heard woman shout out
Who let the dogs out?"
And "A doggy is nuttin' if he don't have a bone" -erection.
this song has now ruined my childhood. |

this is by far my most favorite song by them. i think it's mostly just about being completely hung over somebody, possibly them not caring about you as much as you care about them. you obsess over this person and remember all the details. |

also, the "I deserve this anguish on my house" reminds me of Romeo and Juliet, the "plague on both your houses!" thing. |

so, i think this song is about her confronting her lover to be more honest with her, does she really care about her, how far would you go for me, etc. and i think the whole "arrow" metaphor is her preparing herself for the impact of an honest answer. "i feel the breeze, feel feathers of an arrow" is her knowing that she's not gonna like the answer, and she can just feel the nervousness creeping up, preparing herself for an "arrow"-type answer. |

it sounds to me like someone cheated on her, i.e. "run around on me", and so she flips out and makes a scene, and then regrets it later, saying "you didn't even deserve my attention." |

i this could be taken two ways: being overly picky about who you want to be with, and this making yourself miserable because of your unrealistically high expectations,
or trying to be perfect to be in a relationship, which goes with the whole "I practiced my sainthood" theme of the entire album. here's what the entire album is described as:
"Tegan and Sara’s sixth studio album — Sainthood — addresses secular themes of devotion, delusion, and exemplary behavior in the pursuit of love and relationships. Inspired by emotional longing and the quiet actions we hope may be noticed by the objects of our affection, Sainthood is about obsession with romantic ideals. In the service of relationships we practice being perfect. We practice our sainthood in the hope that we will be rewarded with adoration. As we are driven to become anything for someone else, we sometimes become martyrs for our cause. Love, like faith, can never be held in an individual's hands. But the story of a great love affair — especially one that is unrequited or has ended too soon — can be woven like scripture or a bedtime story. And so the themes of Sainthood are tied together by this simple title, borrowed, with great respect, from the lyrics of the Leonard Cohen song “Came So Far For Beauty:” I practiced all my sainthood / I gave to one and all / But the rumours of my virtue / They moved her not at all"
so, you're trying to edit everything about yourself so you can be perfect for everyone, but in the end, you still make yourself miserable because you're not being yourself. |

i think this song is about having unrequited feelings towards someone, and trying to just be their friend and care for them. you know this person is no good for you but you can't help but want them so bad. and this person you care for so deeply probably couldn't care less about you and is looking for their own lover to have that is obviously not you, so you just want to forget about them, but it's not working. so you try to concentrate on their faults and how "they've loved so many others", but you still want them so bad. |

| David Bowie – All the Young Dudes Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
Bowie wrote the song for Mott the Hoople. its originally a part of the Ziggy Stardust story:
""The time is five years to go before the end of the earth. It has been announced that the world will end because of lack of natural resources. Ziggy is in a position where all the kids have access to things that they thought they wanted. The older people have lost all touch with reality and the kids are left on their own to plunder anything. Ziggy was in a rock-and-roll band and the kids no longer want rock-and-roll. There's no electricity to play it. Ziggy's adviser tells him to collect news and sing it, 'cause there is no news. So Ziggy does this and there is terrible news. 'All the young dudes' is a song about this news. It's no hymn to the youth as people thought. It is completely the opposite. " |

| Sam Sparro – Black and Gold Lyrics
|
i also thought of something else as to the explanation of the title!
okay, of course there is the theory that gold is the stars and black is the rest of space and the nighty sky that he's looking at, but i have another idea!
perhaps "Black and Gold" is he and God. the lines "I wanna be next to you
Black and gold" evoke the thought that he is sitting next to God. He is black in comparison to God, because he is a human filled with sins and whatnot. And God is glorious and mighty, just like people view the color gold. |

| Sam Sparro – Black and Gold Lyrics
|
yeah, i also thought it was romantic at first, but it becomes obvious its talking about God here:
I looked up into the night sky
And see a thousand eyes staring back
And all around these golden beacons
I see nothing but black
I feel a way of something beyond them
I don't see what I can feel
If vision is the only validation
Then most of my life isn't real
--
he feels that there has to be something beyond the stars, (i.e., heaven.) he cant really see the face of God, but he knows he feels it, and thats all that matters, cuz if seeing is the only way to believe, then his life isnt real at all. |

confusedgirl16,
i think you're being a little elitist in your genres. this certainly isn't mainstream pop. if it can't be fit in to a certain genre, then it's usually deemed "Alternative". what do you think Alternative means? you don't need to blame her for iTunes' choice.
---
anyway, i think this is a really refreshing song thats about believing in your talent even when other people try to being you down. |
