The Runner Lyrics
Hard times as we go
We know what times will change
I talked to Jesus
Jesus says I'm okay
Pushin' and jumpin'
Jumpin' the mountain range
And in a railroad
Railroad from Hell to Maine
While she says she's on her own
I'll be pacin' on the phone
Taking numbers, taking blame
Awful sick and tired of the game
She comes from nothing
Hopin' for a taste of fame
She's got a birthmark
A birthmark the shape of Maine
While she says she's on her own
I'll be pacin' on the phone
Taking numbers, taking blame
Awful sick and tired of the game
And it's cold and it's cold and it's cold when you're near
Cold when you're near any bottle
Cold and it's cold and it's cold when you're near
Cold when you're near any bottle
Hard times as we go
We know where times will change
I talk to Jesus
Jesus everyday
(Hard times as we go)
We know what times will change
I talked to Jesus
Jesus says I'm okay
Jumpin' the mountain range
And in a railroad
Railroad from Hell to Maine
I'll be pacin' on the phone
Taking numbers, taking blame
Awful sick and tired of the game
Hopin' for a taste of fame
She's got a birthmark
A birthmark the shape of Maine
I'll be pacin' on the phone
Taking numbers, taking blame
Awful sick and tired of the game
Cold when you're near any bottle
Cold and it's cold and it's cold when you're near
Cold when you're near any bottle
We know where times will change
I talk to Jesus
Jesus everyday

It may be that he's sick of the road & the 'rock n roll' life style, he's feeling down and insicure about his woman he left at home. And when he feels like this, being the son of a preacher, he prayers.
This song is about the girl who cheated on Caleb with one of the other members in the band.
"Why does she say she’s on her own I’ll be pacin on the phone Taking numbers, taken blame"
He's calling her and she's telling him she's by herself and he knows she's not.
"Awful sick and tired of the game She comes from nothing Hopin for a taste of fame She’s got a birthmark A birthmark the shape of Maine"
He's tired of girls who try to get intimate with him for no other reason than just for a taste of the good life. And then he's calling her out by describing her birthmark.
"Awful sick and tired of the game And it’s cold and it’s cold and it’s cold and it’s cold when you’re near Cold when you’re nearing the bottle
Our time as we go We know our times will change I'll talk to Jesus Jesus everyday"
It's no secret that the Kings love to drink and Caleb is saying it's worse because he needs to drink to calm himself and get over the girl. To help himself more he'll just pray.
i love people who think they know the real meaning of the song.
Firstly, I would like to say how wrong those lyrics are.
Secondly, I think that this song is about a girl who runs away from home (hence the title, The Runner). "Pushing and jumping Jumping the mountain range Burning up railroad Railroad from hell to Maine" She's traveling trying to get away from where she is now (hell), to somewhere better (Maine).
"While she says she's on her own I'll be pacing on the phone Taking numbers taken blame Awful sick and tired of the game." Someone is worried, trying to get her to come back. But they're also tired of her running away (this probably isn't the first time she's tried).
"She comes from nothing Hoping for a trace of fame. She's got a birthmark Birthmark the shape of Maine." This girl feels that Maine is where she belongs, where she'll find herself, possibly.
The lines about Jesus, I think that is the narrator's part. "Jesus says that I'm okay." He's fine with himself, and it doesn't matter where he is, because he's got Jesus.
And then, "Our time as we go, we know our time's will change", that kinda reinforces that point, saying that things will change no matter what.
I hope this makes sense.
Can't believe no one has commented on this song! I love this one, i think its my favorite off their new album which is amazing! This songs almost like a lullaby and I love the chorus. As for the meaning I'm guessing its about times when Caleb's feeling down he asks Jesus for answers, although I don't know, KoL making a Christain song doesn't seem right, still beautiful song, best one off new album (one of them at least)

Well, the brothers' father is a preacher, named Leon. It wouldn't be that far off for them to maybe write a Christain song.
I really don't think this is any lullaby. If you read the lyrics he's talking about being away from his woman and not trusting her. Then she cries "it's cold when you're near any bottle" as in, he beats her. She talks to Jesus hoping for salvation from this prick.
"it's cold when you're near any bottle" as in drinking leads to problems/depression
the correct lyrics are
Our time as we go we know our times will change i talk to jesus jesus he says i'm OK
pushing and jumping jumping the mountain range burning up railroad railroad from hell to maine
why does she say she's on her own ill be pacing on the phone taking numbers taken blame awful sick and tired of the game
she comes from nothing hopeing for a trace of fame she's got a birhtmark birthmark the shape of maine
and it's cold and it's cold and it's cold when your near it's cold when your nearing the bottom
our time as we go we know our times will change i'll talk to jesus jesus everyday
