| Dead Kennedys – California Über Alles Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Jerry Brown is the current Attorney General of California and is looking to again be Governor there. I recently heard an interview he did with Michael Savage where Brown was talking about the so-called "Fairness Doctrine", which has the ultimate goal of censoring internet and radio content in the United States. Of censorship Brown said “a little state control wouldn’t hurt anybody”. “I will be Fuhrer one day” indeed. What a douche. |

| Supersuckers – Alabama, Louisiana, or Maybe Tennessee Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| this is a damn fine Buck Owens cover. | |
| Turisas – Cursed Be Iron Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this is from the Finnish Epic The Kalevala. although it has been awhile since i read it in that epic context, i think it is pretty clear that these lyrics have a very negative slant towards iron, both in it's elemental stage and after it is formed by the smith. as such, i don't think it is from a warrior's point of view about his sword, as a warrior is very dependent on and caring towards his sword. i think the voice here is someone that has lost much to sharpened iron, possibly a warrior, but certainly not by a viking warrior about his own sword. | |
| Amon Amarth – The Fate Of Norns Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| not to mention the fact that he is 6 years old when he died "He was just 6 winters old". Even Sigurd was considered quite young in his late teens to be a warrior, so it is doubtful the son in this song was out swinging a sword at the enemy when he met his doom. | |
| Cock Sparrer – Tough Guys Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| clearly "though" should be "tough". slight but important difference there. | |
| Dropkick Murphys – Fields of Athenry Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
changed that lyric hobobob. thanks. as for the skinhead thing, the Dropkick site used to have a good blurb about skinheads and their connections to them, but i couldn`t find it just now. but i know the band associates itself with traditional skinheads, which is more of a working class pride supbculture than anything. traditionalist skinheads do not regard attitudes toward racism as central to the subculture. some of these original skinheads were recruited by the National Front in the 70's as thugs, and this association is what led to the skinhead/nazi/racist connections some people assume to be true of all skinheads today. in fact there are many very anti-racist skinhead groups, SHARP and ARA to name two that i am familiar with. don`t buy into the blanketing hype the media lays on them, very few skinheads are nazis, just that the ones that are do things that get alot of attention. to be sure, Dropkick does not support racist attitudes, it is the working class pride aspect that they relate to. |

| Mad Caddies – Weird Beard Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
actually pirates live by some very important rules and regulations. the most important of which are: ARTICLE 1: Every Man has a Vote in Affairs of the Moment; has equal title to the fresh Provisions, or Strong Liquors, at any Time seized, and use of them at Pleasure, unless a Scarcity make it necessary, for the good of all, to Vote a Retrenchment. ARTICLE 2: Every man shall obey civil command; the captain shall have one full share and a half in all prizes. the Quartermaster, Carpenter, Boatswain, and Gunner shall have one share and quarter. ARTICLE 3: If any man shall offer to run away, or keep any secret from the Company, he shall be marroon'd with one bottle of powder, one bottle of Water, one small Arm, and shot. ARTICLE 4: If any Man shall steal any Thing in the Company, or game, to the value of a piece of Eight, he shall be Marroon'd or shot. ARTICLE 5: If at any Time we should meet with another Marrooner (that is, Pirate) that man shall sign his Articles without Consent of our Company, shall suffer such Punishment as the Captain and Company shall think fit. ARTICLE 6: That man that shall strike another, whilst these Articles are in force, shall receive Moses's Law (that is 40 Stripes lacking one) on the bare Back. ARTICLE 7: That Man that shall snap his Arms, or smoke Tobacco in the Hold, without cap to his Pipe, or carry a candle lighted without lantern, shall suffer the same Punishment as in the former Article. ARTICLE 8: That Man that shall not keep his Arms clean, fit for an Engagement, or neglect his Business, shall be cut off from his Share, and suffer such other Punishment as the Captain and Company shall think fit. ARTICLE 9: If any man shall lose a joint in time of Engagement, he shall have 400 Pieces of Eight: if a limb, 800. ARTICLE 10: If at any time you meet with a prudent Woman, that Man that offers to meddle with her, without her Consent, shall suffer Death. pirates are about as free as you can get, but, just like a democracy, there had to be rules in effect in order to maintain that freedom. |

| The Real McKenzies – Scots Wha' Ha'e Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| a Robbie Burns piece put to a ScottishCanadianPunk tune. love this one, such a good scream along song. about the battles under William Wallace and Robert The Bruce in the late 13th/early 14th centuries that lead to Scotland's independence from England. | |
| The Real McKenzies – Scottish and Proud Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| they do "Loch Lomond" on both their self titled album and on their live Robbie Burns tribute "Pissed Tae Th' Gills". Paul McKenzie sounds, as one would suspect from the latter album title, piss drunk on the live version. it's hilarious, but i`d say the self-titled release version would be the version to check out. | |
| Supersuckers – My Kickass Life Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
damn i love this song. i hate whiney emoish bands that are always depressed and saying they suck, and the Supersuckers are a total 180 to that way of thinking. they are convinced that they are the greatest rock and roll band in the world today, and they play every damn song like they want you to believe it too. "no matter how good it gets, it could always get better." Hell yeah. |
|
| Dropkick Murphys – Pipebomb on Lansdowne Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The Avalon Ballroom is also on Landsdowne, which is the place that Dropkick does alot of its boston shows, including its infamous St. Patrick's Day (week?) shows. so i guess it's not just that everything on this street sucks, but that they have to be there every now and then for shows and the whole "designer" upperclass techno faggotry bullshit goes on around them. i know i got some shit from some techno twats both before and after last year's st. paddy's show for wearing a kilt. what a bunch of tools. | |
| Misfits – Attitude Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| whatever the lyrics are, this is one of my favorite Misfits songs, tied with "Where Eagles Dare" for their best. both of them just make me wanna jump up and pump my fist in the air as i scream along with the song. | |
| Misfits – Where Eagles Dare Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| god this song kicks ass. tied with "Attitude" for my favorite Misfit's song. oldschoolpunker, the Black Halos played this last time i saw them too, then The Queers came out later and did "Attitide". it was a fucking great show. | |
| Ozzy Osbourne – Suicide Solution Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| the Dead Kennedy's "Triumph Of The Swill" takes on this whole "the kid killed himself because ozzy told him to thing". great song about sanitizing music. | |
| Radiohead – Anyone Can Play Guitar Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| oh, and i think you meant "grammar" Ramtharlikesguys. | |
| Radiohead – Anyone Can Play Guitar Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i think it was Marilyn Manson that said "if you want to be like Jim Morrison, you can`t be anything like Jim Morrison". how true. really can`t stand most of what this band has done. |
|
| Reverend Horton Heat – Folsom Prison Blues Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The Rev does a pretty darn good job giving his own wicked take on this Cash classic. | |
| Legendary Shack Shakers – The Pony To Bet On Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
i drive hayrides on our farm and during especially long days the "We wend from trophies and triples To pullin' hayrides for cripples" line always tends to come to mind and make me laugh. |

| Legendary Shack Shakers – Where's The Devil...When You Need Him? Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
these boys are probably about the best thing coming out of Kentucky these days, except perhaps for Maker's Mark. they are unbelieveable live, and they aren`t simply insane showmen, the Colonel can write some wicked lyrics as well. but don`t take my word for it... "..the last great Rock and Roll frontman." - Jello Biafra (of the Dead Kennedys) about Col. J.D. Wilkes "The best American music being made today." - Jason "& the Scorchers" Ringenberg "It's like having SLAYER open up for you every night. Best damn band & front man in America." - Hank Williams III "(Col. J.D.)'s 'The Killer' of the blues harmonica." - "The Rev. Horton Heat" Jim Heath "Proof positive entertainment was born in America!" - Ray Condo of the Ricochets "Best Frontman in Nashville (2002 vote)" -Nashville SCENE "'Believe' fairly explodes out of the speakers...driven by a rock-solid rhythm, boundless energy...(and) mind-blowing lyrics rife with Biblical references and ruminations of life, death, sin and redemption." -BILLBOARD awesome. |

| a party playlist necessity. | |
| Hank Williams III – Dick in Dixie Lyrics | 21 years ago |

| Backyard Babies – Heaven 2.9 Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| finally saw these guys march 1 in Raleigh NC. opened for Social Distortion, and came awful close to out-playing them. they were awesome, but especially when they played this song. how 4 skinny Swedes can rock as hard as they do, i do not know. | |

| Flogging Molly – Rebels Of The Sacred Heart Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
smithskid84, "Beyond the pale" is a term usually used to describe people unlike one's self, especially barbaric, indigenous, unrefined or mysterious peoples. So this could be in reference to non-Catholics, but could also be directed at those people living in areas in Scotland and Ireland that still speak Gaelic or anyone else in Ireland who is outside the norm, who is not going with the flow. punkers, perhaps? and as for Catholics, let’s be honest, they have seriously bastardized the Bible… come on, praying to Mary? The only eating fish on Fridays thing? Do they realize that was instituted by the English crown to bolster the English fishing trade? Or how about the priests not marrying thing? Started in the late dark ages to keep priests from passing their enormous wealth on to their sons, so that they would instead pass it on to the church, making the church the rich one. not that any other denomination can really talk, but still. |
|
| Flogging Molly – Queen Anne's Revenge Lyrics | 21 years ago |

| The Tossers – Seven Drunken Nights Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
anyone know of any recorded versions of this song that have the final verse where the wife says ""AHHH! ya drunk ya durnk ya silly old fool, tell ya cannot see, that's an Englishman that me mother sent to me" and the husband replies: ""Well it's manys a day i travel, a hundred miles or more, But an Englishman that can last 'til three, i never seen before"? i have heard it in several pubs live, but haven`t found a recorded version of it. if anyone knows of one, please let me know. |
|
| The Tossers – Monday Morning Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| on the surface it's about drinking, but at the gut level it's about being sick of the system and getting people to think on their own. that second to last verse is so masterfully put, just that there is so much more to life than most of us see, that we have to be open to change, and that self destructive behavior should be avoided. | |
