| Emmelie De Forest – Rainmaker Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
Emmelie said the song is about a tribe joining together to call upon the rainmaker to make their land blossom again. But on a more general level the rainmaker can be anything or anyone – it is about coming together and helping each other out. The song is used as the JoinUs song for the Eurovision Songfestival. My interpretation of the lines: First couplet: The land of the tribes is dried out, so they need rain to make the seeds come out. Refrain: "Over the mountains, higher Where would you find us? Higher Over the mountains, higher Where would you find us? Oh, I hear, hear the echo of your drums It’s in your hands, let the rain dance I feel, feel the power of your song It’s in your call, let the rain fall" Refrain: The tribes meet each other on the mountains and sing a song for the rainmaker. The rainmaker hears the song and indicates that it is in their hands. Second couplet: "One love carried by the wind One love glowing on our skin Join us when the sun is high It only takes one love to open up the sky" This part is about unity and coming together to build something together. In the case of these tribes they need to work together to make the rainmaker come, and make it rain. Just as Emmelie said. And this part of the refrain; "Make it rain, make it rain Rainmaker, oh oh, oh oh Make it rain, make it rain Rainmaker, oh oh, oh oh" I would like to believe it is the actual song the tribes sing to call the rainmaker. I like the symbolism in the song, and the (sort of) parable of tribes calling a rainmaker. Just as Emmelie said, it could be about anything, where joining and make or build something together is important/the goal. (Please excuse any mistakes in my English, it is not my native language) |

| Fort Minor – Be Somebody Lyrics | 11 years ago |

Like others already said, its about following dreams and believing in yourself. Don't let other people tell you YOUR dream isn't possible. Just pursuit it. its your life, your strenght. Show all the people who said you couldn't do it that you did. Great song, I really like this sentence: "We don't sleep to dream, we sleep to build stamina Energy to do our thing" It puts a whole other perspective on life. Sleep to build energy, and use that energy to get what you want. To follow your dream. |

I have another interpretation. It was the first thought through my mind when I heared the song. --- Down by the river by the boats Where everybody goes to be alone Where you wont see any rising sun Down to the river we will run This verse reffers to the afterlife. The river is the river that you need to pass to come in the real afterlife (or underworld, like Charon the shipper etcetera). So that explains the boats too. While you need to pass the river, there isn't any sun there. Maybe its afterlife, maybe the unterworld... but maybe both dont have rising sun (anymore). You'll be alone there, like many people say: we all die alone. --- When by the water we drink to the dregs Look at the stones on the river bed I can tell from your eyes You've never been by the riverside But then it gets weird, ofcourse you didn't been by the riverside, you only can die once... So maybe the narrator is Charon the shipper, or another figure that stays there. Drink the dregs is coming to insight in the situation. Maybe realising that you/he/she is dead. -- Down by the water the riverbed Somebody calls you somebody says Swim with the current and float away Down by the river everyday So just flow with the river to the afterlife, dont hestitate and dont stay too long in the 'grey area'. Just flow with it, get on the ship, let Charon shit you to the afterlife. The last sentence doesn't make sense with this interpretation... why everyday? --- Oh my God I see how everything is torn in the river deep And I don't know why I go the way And then the narrator sees its done. Life IS done, its over and its time to move on. But she does see the pain. Then (i dont know why i go the way) the narrator thinks: why am i going to the afterlife? I want back to my life! --- When that old river runs pass your eyes To wash off the dirt on the riverside Go to the water so very near The river will be your eyes and ears old river = old life. People say the see the their life flashes through their eyes, i think that the narrator means that with the old river pass through her eyes. Life is done, so it the 'dirt' both literaty as a figure of speech washes away, its time for a new life. Cant figure out the last two sentences though. --- I walk to the borders on my own To fall in the water just like a stone Chilled to the marrow in them bones Why do I go here all alone Again alone, you die alone so you need to do it alone. Borders? maybe she still didn't got on the ship and tried to 'swim'. But that isnt possible, you NEED the ship, so she will sink in the river and feels the cold in her bones. Cold can refer to actual water of the death, like cold bodies. Last sentence: still wondering why she is alone, she recognises she is death, but why alone? Why not together with her loved ones? --- Maybe I'm just wrong, but I needed to share it with you :) I would be happy the see any comments. |

| Jack Savoretti – Dreamers Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I do think GirlinTheCafe is right and the song is about how dreamers are not taken serious these days and people dont accept dreamers anymore. The world just wants realistic people and people who sees things different aren't always welcome or allowed. Whatever happened to the dreamers They always look beyond the sky Where are the dreamers now? Where are they when the world doesn't want them anymore. They where the ones who looked beyond boundries. Saw a world they could believe in But only when they close their eyes They saw a world different from now, with new ideas and maybe a better future. But it isn't realistic so its a dream (close their eyes). There were the politcians Men of the cloth, painters and poets Dreamers are everywhere, in every position. Starting a revolution Without even knowing it Dreamers who thought with other ideas, thought for a better world and by spreading this they could change the world. Even if they don't know it by thereself. Making the world around us Making heaven and hell Saying so much about us Still they had so much to tell People with new ideas shape the world, they make "tomorrow". If they got it wrong it will be bad (hell) but if they do it well it would change the world in a positive way (heaven). The dreamers that imagine new ideas would not always be accepted by the conservative people (saying so mucht about us) but they aren't giving it up (still the had so mucht to tell). Nothing's ever been this way before A dream is just a dream and nothing more But maybe is a dream not capable for changing the world, or is a dream not accepted by the majority of the people. Just my opinion. Please forgive my English, I come from The Netherlands. |
