End Credits Lyrics

[Plan B]
When the blood dries in my veins and my
Heart feels no more pain
I know, I'll be on my way
To heaven's door

I know when I knock
I'll be hoping I don't drop
To a place where I will rise, like before (x2)

I can feel something happening
That I've never felt before
Hopeless dreaming will start
Dragging me away from heaven's door (x2)

When my mind stops thinking
My eyes stop blinking
I hope
Somebody's there

And my heart stops beating
And my lungs stop breathing
In air
I hope somebody cares

When the blood dries in my veins and my
Heart feels no more pain
I know, I'll be on my way
To heaven's door

I know when I knock
I'll be hoping I don't drop
To a place where I will rise, like before (x2)

I can feel something happening
That I've never felt before
Hopeless dreams will start
Dragging me away from heaven's door

When my mind stops thinking
My eyes stop blinking
I hope
Somebody's there

And my heart stops beating
And my lungs stop breathing
In air
I hope somebody cares

When my mind stops thinking
My eyes stop blinking
I know
At the end

I know that this song appears to obviosly be about death, but I think there's more to it than that. I think this might be about someone who has a life of crime; as many Plan B songs tend to be about. But that person has had a spot of bad luck and is now on the verge of dying. He's just thinking about life and death; wondering if there' anything after death, wishing he didn't have to go, wanting the one he loves to be there beside him. But he's all alone and it's unlikely anyone will miss him once he's dead.

My Interpretation

I just happened to stumble upon this song a few days ago, and I LOVE it!

As I was listening to it again today and analyzing the lyrics, I found a possible meaning behind this song. I think the religious undertones about death and going to heaven or hell are pretty evident, but I think it's complicated to the singer/speaker. He strives to be a good person and to be forgiven for his sins in hopes of getting in heaven. The song is an epiphany of sorts; he realizes that he can aspire to get to heaven as much as he wants, but that isn't the fate he is meant for.

It's akin to the idiom that, like a leopard, "you can't change your spots." The speaker has committed sins that, regardless of how much or how often he tries to turn a new leaf and seek redemption he will never achieve it. Neverless, for as "hopeless" as he feels about his fate, his still hopes that when he "knocks" at heaven's door that somebody that cares is there.
