Dreamers Lyrics

There was a time and place
not far from here and now
maybe a brighter day, maybe they had it made somehow
living for there and then
under a psychodelic spell
no one was listening but still they had so much to tell

Whatever happened to the dreamers
that always looked beyond the sky?
They saw a world they could beleive in
but only when they closed their eyes

oooooooo yea-yea

There were the politicians,
men of the cloth, painters ans poets
starting revolutions without even knowing
making the world around us
making heaven and hell
saying so much about us and still they had so much to tell

Whatever happened to the dreamers
that always looked beyond the sky?
They saw a world they could beleive in
but only when they closed their eyes

where are they now
they've all left town
bring in the clowns

yea-eah OOOOOooooooooooo

Whatever happened to the dreamers
that always looked beyond the sky?
They saw a world they could beleive in
but only when they closed their eyes
but only when they closed their eyes

nothing's ever been this way before
a dream is just a dream and nothing more
nothing's ever ben this way before
a dream is just a dream and nothing more

Seriously?

But seriously?

I love this song so so so much. I heard it on One Tree Hill first and later a friend sent it to me.

I don't really know what it means but I think it's about how 'dreamers' are not taken serious by the world today. That we are in a world that's too cold and realistic, too down to earth. A world which discourages people to dream because other people will not take you serious.

I think this is a song with a message for a better world, like he sings himself, a world to believe in. A world where dreamers are allowed ... a world they find not so far away from us, if we would only allow ourselves to dream it could be just behind our closed eyes.

But that's just my thought.

I think it's about those who dreamt for social change then and now.

There were the politicians, men of the cloth, painters ans poets starting revolutions without even knowing making the world around us making heaven and hell saying so much about us and still they had so much to tell

Politicians and artists alike started revolutions. Musicians in the 60's really come to mind for me. They really started questioning the system around the time of the Vietnam War. The Beatles-Revolution, Bob Dylan-Blowing In The Wind, etc. etc. As for politicians they were more for more making hell than...

I do think GirlinTheCafe is right and the song is about how dreamers are not taken serious these days and people dont accept dreamers anymore. The world just wants realistic people and people who sees things different aren't always welcome or allowed.

Whatever happened to the dreamers They always look beyond the sky

Where are the dreamers now? Where are they when the world doesn't want them anymore. They where the ones who looked beyond boundries.

Saw a world they could believe in But only when they close their eyes

They saw a world different from now, with new ideas and maybe a better future. But it isn't realistic so its a dream (close their eyes).

There were the politcians Men of the cloth, painters and poets

Dreamers are everywhere, in every position.

Starting a revolution Without even knowing it

Dreamers who thought with other ideas, thought for a better world and by spreading this they could change the world. Even if they don't know it by thereself.

Making the world around us Making heaven and hell Saying so much about us Still they had so much to tell

People with new ideas shape the world, they make "tomorrow". If they got it wrong it will be bad (hell) but if they do it well it would change the world in a positive way (heaven). The dreamers that imagine new ideas would not always be accepted by the conservative people (saying so mucht about us) but they aren't giving it up (still the had so mucht to tell).

Nothing's ever been this way before A dream is just a dream and nothing more

But maybe is a dream not capable for changing the world, or is a dream not accepted by the majority of the people.

Just my opinion. Please forgive my English, I come from The Netherlands.

My Opinion
Cover art for Dreamers lyrics by Jack Savoretti

This song is about how the world has changed through politics and governments.

Our presidents/Prime Ministers/Leaders in the past didn't just think of economy, profit like most do nowadays but instead, thought of how to make life for people, or their country better.

Not just Government officials but great thinkers such as Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, Nostradamus and so on and how their methods revolutionised our society and the way we think.

"where are they now they've all left town bring in the clowns"

This stanza supports my song meaning because the lyrics that they are no longer around and instead were replaced by clowns. "Clowns" in british society today are names people call government officials (Like calling the Police, pigs).
