@[AlastorZL1:50768] What do you think it's about? To me, it seems to be about Christian persecution. A powerful call to fight back against it :) |

I don't know the official meaning of the song so I'll tell you what it means to me. To me, this song really captures the essence of life in general and my life in particular. I have always been looking for more meaning in this life, and have followed various paths until I became a Christian last year. Before that, I was a psychonaut - someone who uses psychedelic drugs for spiritual and/or self-actualisation purposes. Both in my previous and current outlooks on life, I have always found it amazing that things are indeed 'never as it seems', and that you constantly 'find yourself in a new direction'. Weird coincidences, profound experiences and curious encounters keep on shaping and evolving the way I perceive the essence of life. It's a beautiful cosmic storm, it's mysterious in so many ways. Of course, there are no certainties. My conversion to Christianity has given me bliss and a sense of security, and it truly 'helps me to name it', but what is the truth? Am I building myself a myth, am I building on the myths from so many years ago? Well, whether or not that's the case, my old (psychonaut) outlook on life had become a dead end, hence: 'can't keep hanging on to what is dead and gone'. Life is a constant cycle of doubt and new hope, of death and rebirth, and both the lyrics and the melancholic music capture this perfectly. Truly one of the best songs of all time. |

| @[Moonbeam86:19182] I love your explanation! I am a bit confused by the last couple of sentences though. What do you reckon they mean by that? I mean, as a Christian you'd _want_ others to eventually start believing in Jesus too, right? Even if you (rightfully so) don't want to force it on them. | |

It's satanic. The character that speaks presents itself as an alternative to God - there are two options, either you believe in God or you believe in 'me'. The God that the character is referring to is clearly the Christian God, judging by the lyrics 'a God that wears a crown' - it's a reference to the crown of thorns. So who is the 'me' character? It's the other option, the alternative to Christ; the Antichrist. He is telling you that God is in fact lying and that you should believe in him instead. On a deeper level, the song represents the struggle that believers face when discussing their beliefs with other people. 'Come on', they would say, 'you don't believe in a two-thousand year old fairy tale, do you? Do you believe in that God, or do you listen to what I'm saying?' It's easy to get mislead. |

| There are a lot of references to traveling by car, but the entire atmosphere of the song screams something else. Romantic, beautiful, but intense intercourse. I'm not sure about the actual meaning, but this is clearly my interpretation. | |

Spot on! Thanks for posting! I must admit, at first I thought it was about Kambo, the skin secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog. But your explanation is more logical, as Kambo is more of a detox and not primarily a psychedelic drug. :) |

It's about the wonders of psychedelic drugs, as seen from the perspective of a first-time user. "How could we, when did we forget where we came from" All of those thoughts that come into your mind when the metaphorical third eye is opened... how far we've drifted away from our natural state of being, and how amazing it is to feel yourself return to that state, even if just for one moment... "You were there, you were there When I first believed it" You'll never forget your first time... who were there to experience this life-changing adventure with you. The title "Keep It Healthy" probably refers to the possible dangers... watch out what you're doing, when and how much you're doing. Just keep it healthy. |

Easy. It's the quest to love from an (astronomy) nerd's perspective. Very recognizable. And once again a wonderful track, in my opinion by far the best one from the second album, which - to be honest - is probably their worst album. (Still not bad by a long shot, though!) |

It seems to be about being satisfied with your life, in a good way... especially about your life with a certain special person. There's a wee bit of melancholy and, of course, nostalgia (hence the title), but overall, the singer takes the stance of someone who's looking back with pride and happiness, and who's not afraid to look into the future either. Wonderful song, probably the best one from Eleventyseven's first album (along with Here With Me). |

It's about the War on Drugs. The government - especially the American government, but really, it's something that's going on in all countries - tries to dumb us down with drugs that 'they approve of' (mind-numbing crap like Ritalin), but meanwhile, psychedelic drugs like psilocybin and LSD, that could actually make a positive difference in our daily thought processes, are banned. The 'third eye' Matt's talking about is the same 'third eye' that is opened when consuming these drugs. People who use these drugs are usually looked down upon as junkies or people who are simply out of control, while in reality, they're the only ones still looking for another way to look at this weird world. But 'we', which Matt, as someone who uses psychedelic mushrooms every so often, is a part of... 'we' will be victorious in the end, as more and more people know the truth. We will be no longer controlled by a stupid, outdated law, or by negative media attention. At least that's the hope psychonauts all over the world are still having. |
