Sonata Arctica – Candle Lawns Lyrics 11 months ago
It's pretty obvious what this song is about, really, but... "My last save point's getting out of reach"...? Sure, it makes *some* sense given the next verse, but still, that's a pretty weird thing to have a dying man say.

Must be the effects of all them FPS games, huh.

I wonder if Tony might be fond of Call of Duty or Battlefield or the likes...

Metallica – Damage, Inc. Lyrics 1 year ago
When I was little, my dad told me the song was about some sort of a secret police service (the titular "Damage, Inc."), which make certain that the Orwellian society they inhabit remains controlled, and any individuals who might be inconvenient (too intelligent, aware, or calling for change) get "removed".

The lyrics seem to back this up, with the second, third, and fourth verse blatantly stating that "Damage, Inc" is going to murder you if you "go against the grain".
Furthermore, the first verse underlines the implicit choice that the "victims" have - of simply "living on their knees" in conformity, yet one they don't take, mandating "Damage, Inc."'s intervention, and paint a picture of quite literally pummelling someone to death.

Seems to make a lot of sense. "A call for non-conformity"... hah! More like "try your best, sweetheart, and we'll beat the living daylights out of ya."

Blind Guardian – And Then There Was Silence Lyrics 1 year ago
@[topiasr:19478] It seems the original author was very excited to put this all into writing. :P

Pretty good analysis, methinks. Fantastic song. I love how it's all a premonition, in stark contrast with the serene ending. Bloody hard to sing along though...

Nightwish – Yours Is an Empty Hope Lyrics 1 year ago
@[HiggsBoson:19269] @[alexander2:19270] If it's for Anette or Tarja, then Tuomas is a SAVAGE. "A hollow voice ruin with a roof". Damn!... Hopefully it's not about either of them though.

Stratovarius – It's A Mystery Lyrics 2 years ago
Almost feels like they wrote the music, didn't know what lyrics to add to it, and then stumbled upon a documentary about the Mayans on TV. "Eh, it's a pretty reasonable topic, I guess..."

Nightwish – Weak Fantasy Lyrics 2 years ago
@[Sapherd:15111] I completely agree with everything said here. I don't mind Dawkins much, his voice is good and he's supposed to be a renowned scientist (though the single video of his I've seen presented a nonsensical argument); and anyone denying evolution is a tool (though they have every right to do so, I guess)... but damn, Tuomas. I loved you, mate, even before the 200%-spot-on (in my opinion) line from Last Ride of the Day. No need to suddenly hate on everything.
(Also, as a wannabe-writer of a fantasy novel, a title such as "Weak Fantasy" is directly attacking my insecurity. :D)

Stratovarius – Leave the Tribe Lyrics 3 years ago
This song is about the award-winning film "10,000 B.C." by Roland Emmerich...

No, of course it's not. But the lyrics make its meaning pretty clear.

Kamelot – My Therapy Lyrics 3 years ago
From what I read here, the narrator is a drug addict ("It's the chemical way to serenity"; "You're the antidote for solitude injected in my veins"), far beyond the point of no return, which he openly admits ("I walk alone / On the path of self-extinction").
It appears he's lost his faith, which probably led him to seek consolation in drugs, and he seems to blame society for that. We're given no evidence to conclude whether that's the case, however (unless the songs in the album are all linked in this "loose story" I've been hearing about, but haven't yet explored; and evidence is present in the other ones).

In the end, though, this is the confession of a broken man, a cry for help from someone who's lost all hope.

Also happens to be my favourite song in this album. Should really look at the other lyrics in-depth, though...

Blind Guardian – Distant Memories Lyrics 4 years ago
Hands-down my personal favourite song of the new album... which is why I bothered to record the lyrics (done a couple of days post-release, when the official ones weren't available to me).
I'd really like to have a lyrics notebook for the whole thing, though. I'm trying to find out what the story's about...

Sabaton – Ruina Imperii Lyrics 4 years ago
I don't know Swedish, but knowing English and German (and commons sense, he-he) allows me to mostly get what's going on. What a beautiful song... It certainly carries the sadness and despair of a shattered dream and a defeated kingdom.
"Hårda tider" indeed...
I feel like learning Swedish now.

Also, "Ruina Imperii" sounds more Russian than Latin... or is it just me? :P

Nightwish – The Poet And The Pendulum Lyrics 5 years ago
I believe this is over 100% correct. Thank you for this interpretation.

Nightwish – Dead Boy's Poem (feat. Sam Hardwick) Lyrics 5 years ago
Tuomas Holopainen, you are a great person. Not only will your verses be remembered but you will also be.
I only wonder what thoughts occupied your mind when you wrote these lyrics. I guess I will never know...

I know you will never read this, but if you do, you're a paragon. I'm sorry for all the difficulties that you have encountered... But perhaps the tear stains on the pages of your diary were not in vain. You're a paragon to me. I can only hope to be - one day - as good as you.

Nightwish – Come Cover Me Lyrics 5 years ago
I can bet it's about Tuomas. ;)

Sonata Arctica – Only the Broken Hearts (Make You Beautiful) Lyrics 6 years ago
What the fuck is this supposed to mean...?

Sonata Arctica – The Day Lyrics 6 years ago
A very strong and touching song, at least for me. The meaning is obvious: the narrator loses his family because of a tsunami, but manages to live on through, while still deeply in love with his wife.

Kamelot – Soul Society Lyrics 7 years ago
Gee, you should've posted the Wikipedia link for the album instead.

Sonata Arctica – The Worlds Forgotten, The Words Forbidden Lyrics 7 years ago
If they really are connected, and my theory about secret agents in The Black Swan is true, then I'd rather think of this as a sequel, when the narrator returns home after forcibly having worked for the opposing force, only to find out that his home has been destroyed.

Maybe it's not that, though. :)

Sonata Arctica – Fly With The Black Swan Lyrics 7 years ago
My opinion is not connected to mythology, though. I think it's metaphorical and that the speaker was an agent of some sort, who was caught in an "avalanche" by his enemies. The offer he could not refuse is, IMHO, to become a double agent for them, because they hold something dear to him (?). So he "steals souls" from his own agency - maybe killing operatives or sending the Enemy secure data, to buy more time for his life, or they will kill him.
Of course, my interpretation leaves the second half of the song mostly untranslated and it's probably not true... But that was just my impression when I read the lyrics.

Sonata Arctica – To Create A Warlike Feel Lyrics 7 years ago
I make sense of the finnish, thank you for the translation. It's about propaganda in the soldiers' ears: how they believe they are doing right things and that they will be remembered with glory.

Sonata Arctica – My Selene Lyrics 7 years ago
"Would you let me be your Endymion" clearly shows that the song is not about the myth, just uses it as a metaphore.

Sonata Arctica – Wildfire Lyrics 7 years ago
The spoekn part makes me think it's about Gollum of The Lord of the Rings. Tony likes using literature references and I think that this song would suit well.

Maybe 'm not right, but anyways...

Sabaton – Speeder Lyrics 7 years ago
I think it's about an astronaut who's begun the search for a new planet.
