From the liner notes by Markus Heitz (author of "The Dark Lands"):

"TRIAL AND CORONATION" Nicolas understands and suddenly sees through the sphere: Eve, his confidante, was that woman who talked to him and convinced him! She is nothing less than an angel and she won him over with her wise words for the good. For this, Eve has to pay the ultimate price. A horseman, ridden to the earth as the Golden King, catches her and has her executed. But who is the queen to whom he gives the crown? Nicolas cannot tell.
