| Glen Hansard – My Little Ruin Lyrics | 7 years ago |
| @[blakewest:28126] Can't live in the past my friend, it's where you're going that matters. I'm sure Glen would agree as his last line in the song says "You can come back anytime you want". | |
| Hawthorne Heights – Niki FM Lyrics | 8 years ago |

While the song may seems to be your typical guy-chasing-a-girl story, some of the lines actually refer to the band making it and being rejected by all the critical assholes of the world who say and write shitty things about bands ("We're waiting for us to fall").. The line about "outside your window with my radio" is most likely a slight reference, or at least drawn from, the film. Say Anything, where John Cusack tries to get a girl's attention by holding a radio outside the window of her home (as opposed to playing song a guitar). But in this lyric, the girl turns away, kind of like how people reject bands, and so forth. |

@[keegs27:4949] Right on point. Just a little info for those interested in the topic of the of the 27 Club: The difference between Kurt and all the others is that his was more pre-determined, if I can even call it that since most suicides are more in the moment. For others it was more of an 'accident'. The more famous musicians, besides Kurt, all happened in a one month time-span except for a couple others: September 3th 1970 - Alan Wilson of Canned Heat [drug overdose], September 18th 1970 - Jimi Hendrix [choked on vomit, cause of death unknown to this day], October 4th 1970 - Janis Joplin [drug overdose], July 3rd 1971, Jim Morrison of The Doors [no autopsy ever performed, cause of death unknown to this day], 1938 Robert Johnson - one of the very first influential Blues musicians ever [poisoned] |

| Nick Drake – The Thoughts of Mary Jane Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
Sorry guys, but out of the millions of songs that people try to make drug references (who are incorrect), I believe this one is directly about marijuana, aka maryjane. Nick Drake suffered from chronic depression. Nick Drake, according to only those who knew him, relied on marijuana to stay afloat; he smoked excessive amounts, literally non-stop. The problem is of course is that being high 24/7 drains you completely, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Consequently, it would've had a negative effect on his life; though it was used to uplift him, unfortunately. Eventually he used prescription pills, which unlike marijuana (which is at least not toxic), killed him. Therefore, I think that the song is without question about mary jane/marijuana who provides that lift, even in the "rain". Sadly, like anything, its a drug and doesn't fix anything, only provides a momentary break from the blues. |

| Lisa Hannigan – Courting Blues Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Courting Blues was actually written by Bert Jansch in 1965. With that said, Lisa transformed into something her own entirely. An incredibly mysterious song, slowed down to a touch, so much that time seems to slow down with it, dragging the listener along on quite a surreal journey. Truly an amazing rendition if you ask me. | |
| Lisa Hannigan – We, the Drowned Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
I personally think this is one of lisa's most powerful songs she has, both musically & lyrically. She, to me, is talking about how "we spend our days like matches", as if they're nothing, living on "hollow-hearted ground", without feeling, like "the end", as if we're dead, not taking them for what they're worth or not reading "the pages that which we turn". Very heavy message with an incredibly sincere yet powerful vocals w/ with a simple strum. The piano accompaniment makes the song whole, demanding a depth only rivaled by her voice. I'd be surprised if we didn't see it on her next album, whenever that'll be. Easily one of my favorites out of all the songs she's created. |

| Lisa Hannigan – Braille Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Beautiful song! It's used as the concluding song in the film "Ondine". The lyrics suggest that it was more than likely wrote for the film or in some relation to it, since the film's the only place you'll here it. | |
| Elton John – Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
Very powerful song with great meaning... pretty simple if you ask me: Overall conclusion: He and Taupid obviously went to glorious New York to pursue their trashcan dream of being artists. They found out the glory NY & Harlem are dressed up in all the time doesn't exist, they're just words, and that they're dreams won't grow in NY, because it's just a place. It continues to talk on about how people act shitty to each other (especially them since they're musicians possibly), and is very grateful that feeling, caring, living people actually exist. I don't think he's necessarily hating on lawyers and bankers, it's more of a metaphor how all these people have no bearing on the light or dark of life. Translation: "Spanish Harlem" basically represents (Harlem's been a place of music in NY for ages) things are dressed up as if they're something magnificent, maybe even glamorous, when they're really nothing special, just "pretty words to say" "But know I know that rose trees never grow In New York City" just a continuation of the last line. The rose tree doesn't grow and bloom like they hoped by just moving to NYC, just like how people will also move to Hollywood, expecting it to change their lives. It won't, it's just another place. "Until you've seen this trash can dream come true" Taupin and Elton were both aspiring musicians, and being a musician (like other artists) is a trashcan dream. Everyone wants to be one but most end up poor and the dream's thrown away in the trash to purpose more fruitful avenues. "You stand at the edge while people run you through" Very powerful continuation of the last line. Whether it's being a musician or a person pursuing anything else, people just talk you down, don't believe in you, possibly treat you like crap. He hoes on saying: "And I thank the lord There's people out there like you I thank the lord there's people out there like you" Straight to the point. He thanks the lord there's people out there that actually care, and love, instead of running you through, treating you like trash. Last verse: "While Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters Sons of bankers, sons of lawyers Turn around and say good morning to the night For unless they see the sky But they can't and that is why They know not if it's dark outside or light" Mona Lisas- shitty, unfeeling women (however you want to define shitty) Mad Hatters- crazy men. mad hatter from Alice In Wonderland, is a reference to men who wore hats were made with mercury way back in the 1800's or so, which made those that wore them ill from the toxic fumes) He's saying there all lost, because they're inside all the time and can't tell if their life or times in general or dark, meaning they have no bearing on life. |

| Ignite – Bleeding Lyrics | 11 years ago |

Great song and meaningful lyrics. "RU-238" Considering the previous lines talk about war, this line appears to me to be a reference to Uranium 238, which is a isotope used in nuclear weapons. |

| Lisa Hannigan – Safe Travels (Don't Die) Lyrics | 12 years ago |

That's quite an interpretation.. tho I hardly agree with it you've got your opinions & I've got mine. I think she just cares about someone and doesn't want them to get hurt. But a liberal freak? come on.. |

| Lisa Hannigan – Little Bird Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I believe she means that even a little bird can put up a sure fight (instead of not being to put up much of one). The whole song is beautifully written, I especially love that verse: "I was salted by your hunger, Now you've gone and lost your appetite And a little bird is every bit as handy in a fight. I am lonely as a memory Despite the gathering round the fire. Aren't you every bird on every wire?" The last like is really something: Aren't you every bird on every wire...... |

If it is indeed about Damien, then the song sure ends on a very powerful note: "Oh you know what you are to me and you know you will always be." |

| Lisa Hannigan – What'll I Do Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Very creative lyrics. She has so many ways of saying what she'll do without him (yes, most likely Damien). | |
| Lisa Hannigan – Knots Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| I think you're spot on except I don't think knots refers to marriage at all. More of that she's putting reminders of the past in her heart, which make her choke and sputter to a stop. I think we can all agree with this line, as I know I have moments where the moments of my past take me for a whirl. | |
| Lisa Hannigan – Home Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Very powerful song. She said she wrote most (if not all) the songs for Passenger on tour, hence the name of the album, especially Passenger's lyrics, Home's lyrics, and others. Quite obviously about how they left home, but even then they still carry everything with them, promises broken, lies told (something we hear in the next song, A Sail). The snow flake metaphor is quite something... how we "spin and we spin and we spin". Can also see her mentioning of |

| Streetlight Manifesto – Would You Be Impressed? Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I agree with most people here. It's obviously about how people don't act because its not them. Einstein once said, "The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it." This song is about the same thing Einstein's talking about. People look on because if it's not DIRECTLY affecting them, it's not their fight not their problem. And when shit goes down, as the song says, people think it's not their fault. But as the song concludes, he takes up the fight and claims the fault to be none other than his own. |

| The Doors – The Soft Parade Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
I hate to be that person that says this song has to do with drugs but this is the most obvious drug-reference song from The Doors, NOT TO SAY that Morrison had a lot more to say in this song than drug references in both the LYRICS & SONG STRUCTURE. Reasoning: 1) "This is the best part of the trip, This is the trip, the best part I really like, What'd he say?, Yeah!, Yeah, right!" --During the middle of the song, jim starts saying exactly how everybody describes their favorite part of tripping on psychedelics, yet they can't describe because everyone defines it differently. Anybody who's ever done a psychedelic knows beyond all doubt that's what the quote is referencing. Also, the second line is someone asking what he said... we all know it's hard to hear when you're tripping b/c of all the sounds that are going on around you. 2) the whole song structure is like a trip. it varies so much entirely and that's exactly what a trip is like. you do one thing then you do another and it's entirely different world. or you listen to one song while tripping then another, and it gives you a completely different mood and sounds so different from the last. Besides that this song has much more to say than things drug related, but it was structured like a trip, and the quote I pasted above reveals the obvious to the listener. |

| Gotye – Eyes Wide Open Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
"But it was like to stop consuming is to stop being human" even when "the signs were clear" This sing is without a doubt about man's current situation in the world. he's basically saying humans have become total consumers and we don't know how to stop consuming the earth even though we have evidence that our consumption-centered society of today will destroy us in the future. In the beginning he talks about after humanity's destroyed everything, which is the 'end of the story': "So this is the end of the story, Everything we had, everything we did, Is buried in dust, And this dust is all that's left of us. But only a few ever worried." The few that worried are those that actually cared about turning humanity's around from destroying its earth to a sustainable future The chorus line he sung over and over is pretty simple as well: "We walk the plank with our eyes wide open" He's saying we're basically choosing death (a.k.a. "walking the plank") even though we can see and could make an attempt to save ourselves by turning around our current direction |

| Jefferson Airplane – The Last Wall of the Castle Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| What I take from it is a guy's done a girl wrong and she's left him. He wants her to come back to give him a chance and show him how to love. In the last verse, it seems that the blinded bird = him, his fear = her leaving him, and star = her. | |
| Jefferson Airplane – A Small Package of Value Will Come to You, Shortly Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
I disagree. The last line "no man is an island. he's a peninsula" has great meaning. You really can't get much bigger than the concept of oneness. They're saying that nobody is an island and that we may be peninsulas and therefore we are all connected. But other than that, not too much meaning. But you can't forget those last two lines. Pretty large meaning there. |

i think you're right about that angelassassin, however i don't think you got this line correct: you put: till you're standing at the pit but i think he actually says: till you're standing at the cliff it makes more sense with the word cliff and it also sounds more cliff than pit. but the rest of it you for sure got right |
