We, the Drowned Lyrics

We, the drowned
Hold our hollow hearted ground
Till we swallow ourselves down
Again, again

We, the ashes
We spend our days like matches
And we burn our ships as black as
The end, the end
The end, the end

We know not the fire in which we burn
But we sing and we sing and the flames go higher
We read not the pages which we turn
But we sing and we sing and we sing and we sing

Oh we the wrong,
We the sewed up and long gone
Were we fallen all along
Like this, like this
Like this, like this

We, the drowned
The lost
And found out
We are all finished
Again
Again
Again
Again

Cover art for We, the Drowned lyrics by Lisa Hannigan

I personally think this is one of lisa's most powerful songs she has, both musically & lyrically. She, to me, is talking about how "we spend our days like matches", as if they're nothing, living on "hollow-hearted ground", without feeling, like "the end", as if we're dead, not taking them for what they're worth or not reading "the pages that which we turn". Very heavy message with an incredibly sincere yet powerful vocals w/ with a simple strum. The piano accompaniment makes the song whole, demanding a depth only rivaled by her voice.

I'd be surprised if we didn't see it on her next album, whenever that'll be. Easily one of my favorites out of all the songs she's created.
