Emilie Autumn – I Don't Understand Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Continuing on my with my "Story of Flag" Idea, Emily is left alone with a gentleman, a photographer, and we see her psychotic behaviour unfold in the Ophelia part, meanwhile she doesn't seem insane from the 'outside'. |
Emilie Autumn – Girls! Girls! Girls! Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Continuing with my analysis/ my take on the 'Story of FLAG' the proprietors of the Asylum use the girls mental illnesses to attract an audience to humiliate and profit from the girls condition, instead of trying to help them. The men who ask questions also give a small (biased) view on how mental disorders were viewed in the past. Outside of the story, this song is a powerful satirical take on medication, women's rights and society itself: "If insanity's primarily a feminish malady - and no one's doubting that, for it's a scientific fact!" The quickness of society to support paradigms in modern society. "We've got pills for: Agression Opression Depression Manic depression But there's a pill for everything these days!" Another take on the heavily reliance of medication in today's society, less serious than, "Take The Pill" "They're really more like animals than people Which haven't proven to have any souls at all The only bits that aren't inferior Are bosom and posterior And these are only useful in a seedy music hall" This bit bashes religion and the objectification of women. Finally the last bit, from "I've got a lot more words to say..." to the end of the song, is a bash on just about everything relating to women: from women's rights to science to religion to sexuality. There's so much more to say about this song, and the message it portrays, but Ill stop here. |
Emilie Autumn – Take the Pill Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Going off of "beebs1998" interpretation, I agree with it being part of the story. Emilie is surely in the Asylum now and makes herself known by 'stepping out of line' and not being submissive and taking the pills prescribed to her. The medical staff also uses the medication to manipulate the girls and abuse them. The second half of the song, could be the effects of the pills and the realization of Emilie about the true nature of the asylum. This song also casts a powerful message about the heavy reliance of medication in modern society. |
Emilie Autumn – What Will I Remember? Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Continuing with my minor analysis/ take on the album, "What Will I Remember" is Emilie contemplating treatments, the pills, electroshock, surgery, etc. and how she will behave after them. She contemplates her life and realizes how bleak it is in the asylum. I also get a second interpretation from the story that she may not be in the asylum at this time, but contemplating going for the treatments to fix her psychotic episodes, not knowing how awful it truly is. Something I noticed the ending note is extremely similar to the final note in "Ever" off of her album Enchant. |
Emilie Autumn – Time For Tea Lyrics | 11 years ago |
As mentioned in my 'Fight Like a Girl' comment, "Time For Tea" continues with the building of the morale for Emilie and the girls in the Asylum. This song also gives some minor back story to Emilie and her psychotic behaviors, about how she doesn't seem insane at all, but actually comes off as a cute little girl, but has psychotic episodes that prove otherwise. (I'll make further references throughout the album) |
Emilie Autumn – Fight Like A Girl Lyrics | 11 years ago |
The album FLAG is a story of a group of women stuck in an insane asylum who decide they want to get free. They see it as starting an all out war, and this could be them gathering their morale, for the war. Outside of the story idea, this song, as well as the whole album contains some serious feminist beliefs and uses the treatment of women in the 1800's to justify it. Which is arguable about how the treatment of women, especially those with mental disorders has 'improved'. |
Dia Frampton – Don't Kick The Chair Lyrics | 12 years ago |
The last bit, in Kid Cudi's part is missing here, it should be: No no no no listen If you gotta think twice about life Something really aint’ right You don’t need to help You Could be better all by yourself You Could be better all by yourself You Could be better all by yourself yeah You Could be better all by yourself ooh Also, being the first song on the album "Red" This song has such a powerful message. It makes me love Dia so much more. |
Stars – Maintenance Hall, 4 A.M. Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I too see polished tiles and flickering fluorescent lights. I see an empty office. Lines of empty cubicles dimply lit by blue service lights, gently being flushed out by the oncoming morning glow of the rising sun in the summer. Such a melodic steam-punkish beat. It's like a robot lullaby. Apart from the heavy symbolism this is a great song to fall asleep too. Also the best song to listen to if you wake up with a hangover. Plenty of times I've laid in bed listening to it on repeat until I felt better. The whole Sad Robots EP is a good hangover album actually, it's so beautiful, so curing. |
Lady GaGa – Marry the Night Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I didn't know that, I learned something new today. :P I like how empowering this song is. It has the whole "I've been kicked, beat down, abused, but somehow I'm going to make my life so much better." I also get a strong sense of looking to an ugly past, and not regretting it. We can grieve over our past, but we must not let it blot out the future. |
The Meg And Dia Band – Here, Here and Here Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think that's such a beautiful idea. :) |
Lights – Toes Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I think this is about waiting for something to happen, being anxious and vigilante as to not miss it. She may not have any idea what's going to happen, but she's assured herself that something will. I remember feeling like that once, practically being devoted to someone, because you cared for them so much and they kept you "on your toes". |
Lily Allen – Fuck You Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Yeah, because Lily Allen is a politician, and not a singer. Really? If she was in an interview, surely she would give valid reasons of why George Bush should go fuck himself, but it's kinda hard to make a song out of a well structured argument? She's a singer, using her celebrity to send a message across through her medium. |
Owl City – Angels Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This song is a lot less about god and the angels you'd typically think of. The song is obviously about escapism, which Adam has said plays a major part in his life, just listen to ANY of his songs. /I've been sleeping with the nightlight unplugged With a note on the rocking chair That says, "I'm dreaming of the life I once loved So wake me if you're out there"/ He doesn't need the light, because he's safe in his imagination /Living close to the ground is seventh heaven 'cause there are angels all around Among my frivolous thoughts, I believe there are beautiful things seen by the astronauts/ There are more beautiful things seen in space, which is referring to people who "have their head in the clouds" /In the dust on my cellar staircase, A pair of footprints followed me I saw a flicker in the fake fireplace Blinked again but there was nothing to see/ He can't help but notice things that aren't real (Starting to look like some sort of disorder) /I keep my knees black and blue 'cause they often hit the hardwood floor (Wake me if you're out there) And I believe, so I'm not praying to the ceiling anymore/ He keeps his knees black and blue and prays to the ceiling. Kinda seems like a stab AGAINST religion, huh? /The indications reveal (Wake me if you're out there) That few of us realize life is quite surreal So if you're dying to see, I guarantee there are angels around your vicinity/ I see the angels he's speaking of, in the sense of this song, more to be a guiding influence. /Wake me if you're out there!/ More of the surreal/escapism, calling out for a guiding influence. This is one of my favorite songs by Owl City, I melt a little each time he screams "Wake me if you're out there!" |
Lights – Jess and Jonny Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I know it was for her sister's wedding, but it really sucks it wasn't a single/on an album. It's really one of LIGHTS' best songs. |
Owl City – The Yacht Club Lyrics | 12 years ago |
This is the first Owl City song I really listened to, apart from the DJ Strobe remix of Fireflies (it's a good listen, I recomend it!) I'm not gonna lie, I only listened to this song because of LIGHTS, but it made me give Owl City a chance :) These two need to make a lot more music together, like a duet album. :P |
Owl City – Galaxies Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Call me crazy, but do I spot a video game reference? Capcom? Felicity? |
Lykke Li – Get Some Lyrics | 13 years ago |
If anyone here is a Batman fan, this is the theme for the Catwoman Reveal trailer for the game Batman: Arkham City. It fits well :P |
Emily Browning – Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The lyrics originally posted were from Marylin Manson's cover, this version is a cover of the original, without the added lines... "Sweet dreams are made of this Who am I to disagree? Travel the world and the seven seas Everybody's looking for something Some of them want to use you Some of them want to get used by you Some of them want to abuse you Some of them want to be abused Sweet dreams are made of this Who am I to disagree? Travel the world and the seven seas Everybody's looking for something Some of them want to use you Some of them want to get used by you Some of them want to abuse you Some of them want to be abused Sweet dreams are made of this Who am I to disagree? Travel the world and the seven seas Everybody's looking for something Some of them want to use you Some of them want to get used by you Some of them want to abuse you Some of them want to be abused" |
Emily Browning – Where Is My Mind (feat. Yoav) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I prefer this version over the original. It's almost like the two songs are completely different even though they're not. Emily Browning's voice is so beautiful and is perfectly suited to this remake. |
Emily Browning – Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I love this version of the song. It's so haunting and builds up into something so intense. |
Pomplamoose – Twice As Nice Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I love the message behind this song "Yes you're quirky and unorthodox, but it makes you who you are, so don't try and be anybody else" |
Pomplamoose – Little Things Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I love how cute this song is! And ofcourse the meaning is obvious. The little things really keep love going strong. |
Stars – Theme from the Stars Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I actually think this song is about death. The message is: Spend as much time with those you love, doing even mundane things, such as staring at the stars, because one day they'll be gone, and all you can do it carry on. :) |
Stars – Look Up Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The most beautiful AMV I've seen is for this song, and it's from the Animatrix. Here, if anyone wants to watch it, the video is what got me hooked on this song :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdPyaFnBQC4 |
Stars – The Last Song Ever Written Lyrics | 13 years ago |
When I listened to this song a few times I noticed something particularly strange: The line "And a tune you haven't heard in a long time" sounds EXACTLY like a part from another older Stars song, "International Rock Star" at around 1:20 seconds into the song (maybe before or after, I don't know exactly) but the resemblance is uncanny. |
Stars – We Don't Want Your Body Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I don't EXACTLY know what this song means, I guess I haven't thought about it enough :P The line "The colours fade, from blue to grey" reminds me of the Metric song "Grow Up and Blow Away" and the lines "if this is the life, why does it feel,so good to die today, blue to grey, grow up and blow away" I really like the change from "When you finally become someone" to "But will you actually be anyone?" it's like a slap in the face. |
Zombie Girl – Gonna Getcha Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I forgot to add that at the end she says something, Here comes the living dead Here comes the rave We're gonna tear this town down today (laughing) "Hey, what's your hurry, I thought you wanted to get to know me better?" (laughing) We're gonna getcha Gonna getcha Gonna getcha Gonna getcha Gonna getcha |
Zombie Girl – Gonna Getcha Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think some of the lyrics are wrong. :/ "I've always been terrified of the dead I hope we're going to leave them in peace" and "Here comes the living dead Here comes the rave We're going to tear this town down, today" Anyways, this is such a fun song! Much like all of Zombie Girl's music! |
Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton – Shrine to Fast Goodbyes Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Oh what I would do to see Emily Haines solo Live :( All of her solo stuff is so melancholy and beautiful. I think this song is about trying to establish something, most likely a relationship, but things keep making it not happen. |
Stars – Winter Bones Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I agree with stars888 that it's about love, but I feel it's all a personal metaphorical madness, brought on by her depressed state. She feels cold and alone, and very desperate. "Day, everyday" "I went to leave" "Caught in the ropes and the wires" "When you awake you're alone" "Honestly, you want to know but you can't" "It's all I've known." All of these lines just scream desperation. |
Stars – Wasted Daylight Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This is the most adorable song I've ever heard. The imagery makes me jealous that it doesn't happen every day. It's obviously about spending all day in bed with someone you love, and how beautiful that is. |
Nicki Minaj – Moment 4 Life Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song, for me, has the most meaning on the album. Nicki's basically saying "I was devoted, I deserved this, I achieved this." |
Metric – Eclipse (All Yours) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I believe this song is about pure devotion. If anyone's read the Twilight books, you KNOW how devoted Bella is to Edward. Is that REALLY such a bad thing? Sure it doesn't look good for the placement of women in society, but what's wrong with being so deeply in love with someone? |
Metric – Combat Baby Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This was the first song that really got me listening to music in general, back in the day. Metric always has been my favorite band, and Emily Haines my favorite singer... ANYWAYS, I feel the meaning of the song is rather simple. The singer yearns for their lover/other half to come back into their life, so they can "tear up the town" and feel alive again. |
