Fiction Family – Mostly Prove Me Wrong Lyrics 12 years ago
It's being stuck: angry, hurt, jaded, and wanting someone to come and show you something brighter. The verses lament all that is going wrong while the chorus is saying, I know that there is something more, so please, prove me wrong. Tell me I'm okay- prove that my perception of me and this life is wrong. Prove to me that I'm not crazy.

House of Heroes – Faces Lyrics 12 years ago
It seems like a song about falling in love with the idea of falling in love, rather than the actual person- or falling for them physically, but not making that emotional leap. "Shot down"= rejected. It's a figure of speech. The speaker is feeling blue because what they are doing to find love isn't working, since they're going about it wrong.

Jars of Clay – Closer Lyrics 12 years ago
As there is a mention of skin, this sounds like a relationship song. I think it's about that feeling where you are not sure if you can get closer to someone, but you want to. One of you may be afraid, but you've got to press on and try.

Jars of Clay – Frail Lyrics 12 years ago
"If I was not so weak
If I was not so cold
If I was not so scared of being broken
Growing old
I would be
I would be
frail"

If you're not scared of anything, you're doing life wrong. You're going to have some fears going into faith. You're going to be imperfect. If you could not realize that you were weak and sinful, you would be far more frail. There is strength in realizing you are weak- and that strength is not you, but God.

Dead Poetic – Vices Lyrics 12 years ago
It's a man going through his life- first as a baby, then a child, with expectations for his life already set, that he will be sure to betray. Then as an angry teenager, then as a husband. Finally, he realizes that he cannot be perfect, and this is when he is reminded of the sacrifice of Jesus.Even though the others are important in his life, he knows that he can disappoint them- Jesus is the one he cannot disappoint. No expectations, just, "I know you, and I love you".

The Classic Crime – The Precipice Lyrics 13 years ago
I see this song as wanting to have and explore that deep emotional connection we can have with another being.

"I'd play til tears ran down your cheek and chin"

There is another person there. I do not think they are singing of The Spirit, nor of God because of this.

"We could write the saddest song" I see as that desire to have that connection. But there is another very important part of this song.

"Sometimes I indulge my every whim
Piece by piece I build the cell I'm in
But I only stay here long
Enough to write the saddest song"

So the saddest song I see as... the human condition. Because it can be a good thing or a bad thing. The saddest song is just Life.

"I'd hit the keys that make your spirit swell" becomes a part of this song. Obviously joy for something.

Now the chorus...

"I dream't I stood on a hill that I wish was a mountain to look back on all my accomplishments. Well they must have been small, because I couldn't seem to find them, so I took a leap off of the precipice."

Again, if we're dealing with the human condition: wanting to accomplish things. Looking back and noticing that you haven't done anything outstanding. It's normal, healthy. Part of life. I don't see the leap as a negative thing.

Emery – Listening To Freddy Mercury Lyrics 13 years ago
Keep in mind, God gave us free choice so that we would do good with it. He doesn't WANT us to choose sin. But the thing is, it is between God and the person, their sins. It isn't for gossip, it isn't to be used against them. We all fall short.

Emery – Fractions Lyrics 13 years ago
Sex before marriage is a sin, because God made man and woman to only be with one person, and having sex breaks the physical and spiritual barrier between two people. Once that barrier is broken, they belong to one another.

Actually, people who wait to have sex until they're with their husband/wife often are more satisfied in their sex life. Could be because you're not comparing your spouse to other people, not expecting more than you should of them.

We are not animals. We have consciences, animals are purely on instinct and lower processes. We were given freedom by God to do what we want, but with that freedom comes the responsibility to do good. God is good, and we were made in the image of God- so to be anything other than good, one could argue, is against our nature.

I can see this as a song to the Spirit, or to God, especially in the ending repeat of "I'll follow you in my heart". Since the song sings, "Whether is works out or not", it could possibly be about love.

What exactly is "the saddest song"? Why does he want to be able to create that, why does he sing for that release? I'm still unsure.

The Classic Crime – When The Time Comes Lyrics 13 years ago
"When the time comes put my feet in the water,
it's not as warm as I expect
Will I go down like a preacher's son,
or will I come back up like a world war vet?
Will I watch my brothers die,
or speak true words into their lives?
Will I hold them close and tell them why,
the life they lead was sacrifice?"

Sounds like a soldier that goes to war, and it's not what he thought it'd be like. And he's wondering if he'll be able to spread the word while he's out there. Or the "soldier" thing could just mean the sacrifice that Christian's live. We live as soldiers, fighting against The Enemy. So in this life, we have to spread God's love as much as we can.

"I don't know much,
but I know about love and how it hurts me to give up
It hurts me to give up"

Love. God is love.

"When the time comes put my hands on the table,
they are examined for that they are
A long life line that's been cut short,
by the road, the time, the battle scars
Would I would give to be back home,
where the sun sets over the water
Someone save me from these preacher's sons,
save me from their daughters"

The time he is talking about could be death. Going back over your life before you die. It's either dying in battle (figurative or literal). Home is either his actual house or in Heaven, with God. The last line almost sounds like he is saying these people are being hypocrites, so get me out of here!

"Still I don't know much,
but I know about love and how it hurts me to give up
It hurts me to give up"

"Why do we always say we're fine,
when it's obviously we're lying?
Why don't we ever tell the truth,
what do we got to lose?"

Withholding the truth goes along with the premis that the song is about spreading the word of God, like a Christian soldier. I'm thinking more and more that battle and war, it's all just imagery.

I want to step back for a second to this line:
"Someone save me from these preacher's sons,
save me from their daughters"

It sorta sounds just like how the rest of the world is today: making fun of Christianity and shunning the followers who show a bit of imperfection. Going along with the Christian soldier imagery- that is who we are to people. We need to change that.

OR

Maybe it's quite literal- the singer is saying Get me away from these people who pretend they're perfect. Those who think God holds them in higher regard. I'd like to hear if anyone has any other interpretations, especially on that line.

Thrice – Paper Tigers Lyrics 13 years ago
I don't think it's about 9/11. I think it's about war. Preaching in the permenant daylight I see as an outward appearance of being correct and right- we do not question the violence because they are defending our country, even if we don't know the details.

"Listen for the sound as it all comes crashing down" I see as the downward spiral, the natural progression of violence and of people realizing something is going on here, maybe they should pay attention.

A spire can be the upper part of a worship building, from the top. So what they're projecting may look all tough, but inside they are weak- like paper tigers.

"They light the world on fire, just to watch it burn" is what I see as deeds that are meaningless- senseless violence and destruction. It'll be the end of them when their souls pay the price.

"We paid for the crimes with our blood and our lives" I see as the sacrifice of those people willing to fight for their country, going out there and never coming back the same- or never coming back.

So the song I see as a reflection of the entire flawed system of going to war, revealed- shouted from the top of their lungs.

Emery – After The Devil Beats His Wife Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm going to take a guess, out of personal experience, that the pain of believing is to know those who you love may not believe in God, and to face that. And that the real you is this Christian who believes that God is the only way, but other people are offended by that, and if they knew what you really thought, it's going to end in a world of hurt for both of you. So you're dishonest to them when they ask about the Faith, about where they would stand. And then you repent, hence, "River, wash me clean!".

Switchfoot – Connect With The Spine Lyrics 14 years ago
It sounds like snapping someone's neck o_o. Face connecting with spine...

Ah, I think I get it now!

"Take her like a photograph, like any autograph
She'll find a way to go down,
Watch her like a movie screen, like any drama queen
She'll find a way to go down"

Full of herself or fame?

"Play it like a cameo, and watch her overflow
She'll find a way to go down
Run like a candidate, like any minute made
You'll find a way to go down"

She's headed for her own demise.

"I'm sick of the faces, the scene and the light
We'll be fine when the faces connect with the spine"

Fame scene. We'll be fine when we can walk the walk and talk the talk- act like we speak. Not be hypocrits.

Switchfoot – Overthrow Lyrics 14 years ago
How it starts, with the stomp-clapping, seems to show a repetition.

The whole song to me seems to be about how we place blame on how things are on those who lead us. Really, we are the problem, each and every one of us.

"All our pretty roads, fairy tales and crowns, broken on the floor
All our little words, love and peace and love, spoken with a sword
We say overthrow the government, put a new one up instead"

We say we want peace, and yet we fuel war.

"If you can overthrow then overthrow,
If you can overthrow your soul
If you can overthrow then overthrow,
If you can overthrow your soul"

It's a direct challenge. Go ahead, try and change how things are. Us, that's what needs to change.

"Tell me how it goes, the one about the war,
the war that killed the king"

Most likely referring to Jesus's death.

"Our hearts are still the same, stone and ice and steal
Lifeless hollow things"

We're still the same heartless things we were back then when we crucified Jesus.

"You say overthrow the government, who will save us from yourself?"

The wording here says it all. We say blame them, but we are the problem.

"Take me down and lock me up,
you can't change my head,
you can't change my heart
When this old life is done,
will we still be the stubborn souls we always were?
Today is our last change to turn around, to turn around
Yourself, yourself, yourself"

Saying we need something to change here, change our perspective on what is really wrong here.

Anberlin – Inevitable Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm going to speculate on what this is about.

"Do you remember when we were just kids,
and cardboard boxes took us miles from what we would miss?
School yard conversations taken to heart,
and laughter took the place of everything we knew we were not."

That nostalgic feeling everyone keeps mentioning.

"I want to break every clock.
the hands of time could never move again.
We could stay in this moment for the rest of our lives.
Is it over now hey, hey is it over now?"

Growing up is the Is it over now, like does this mean all that innocence is gone?

"I want to be your last first kiss
that you'll ever have.
I want to be your last first kiss."

Just what it says. Been through relationships, and hoping this is the final one. Wanting it to be. The song is full of longing.

"Amazing how life turns out, the way that it does.
We end up hurting the worst, the only ones we really love."

... though it may not have turned out quite so beautifully in the past.

"I want to break every clock.
the hands of time could never move again.
We could stay in this moment for the rest of our lives.
Is it over now hey, hey is it over now?"

Back to those special times, the innocence.

"I want to be your last first kiss
that you'll ever have.
I want to be your last first kiss."

"Is it over now hey, hey is it over now?
Is it over now hey, hey it's not over now.
I want to be your last first kiss
that you'll ever have.
I want to be your last first love
that you'll ever have.
Lying here beside me, palms and eyes open wide,
I want to your last first kiss
for all time."

The last lines certainly do sound like a proposal. Overall, a lot of longing, a LOT of hope, which is why I love this song. It admits shamelessly to having hurt or been hurt, and reflects back to simpler times. And hopes that those simple times can go on with someone special. I adore this song :3.

Anberlin – Dismantle. Repair. Lyrics 14 years ago
According to some maybe not reliable source, the lead singer Stephen Christian said that this song is about dismantling yourself to take out all the bad things and replace them with good things. Nevertheless, even though I always hesitate to say it and cringe when others do it... I can relate on a relationship level. I feel like this song is my anthem right now honestly.

"One last glance from a taxicab
Images scar my mind
Four weeks felt like years
Since your full attention was all mine"

Month after a break-up, still haunted. This is where I am right now. Hi, my name is Sarah...

"The night was young and so were we
Talked about life, God, death, and your family
Didn't want any promises
Just my undivided honesty"

Nothing serious, enjoying being together and being good to each other. Then suddenly...

"And say oh, woah
Things are gonna change now
For the better
And woah, oh
Things are gonna change
Oh, they're gonna change"

Break up. Change for the better because it sets you free from something that may be far gone, may be better for you both to move on.

"I am the patron saint of lost causes
A fraction of who I once believed"

Being down before then, failing at a lot that you do, as well as thinking you had everything right before now. Especially when you had something so good with them. Makes you feel you must have done something right (but that’s another song…).

"(Change)
Only a matter of time
Opinions I will try and rewrite"

I don't know about you all, but when I got out? I didn't know what to do. When you're with someone for a year or more, even a few good months (almost a year and four months for me), your life blends with theirs, and you begin to almost lose yourself in what you become as a couple. Biased suddenly, and you're like a new person. Without that? It's hard to find ground to stand on. You feel lost, and don't know who you are anymore. Time to explore that.

"If life had background music
Playing your song
I've got to be honest, I tried to escape you
But the orchestra plays on"

Can't get them out of your head.

"And sing oh, woah
Things are gonna change now
For the better
And woah, oh
Things are gonna change"

But it's okay, it's going to be okay. Life will go on for you. And that orchestra line gets me every time.

"Hands like secrets are the hardest thing to keep from you
Lines and phrases like knives
You words can cut me through”

Wanting to reach for them again. And everything they say cuts deep, even the little things. You still hang on their every word.

“Dismantle me down
Repair
You've dismantled me
You've dismantled me"

Being completely at a loss, disheveled, lost. And now is time for the healing. “You’ve dismantled me” to me is like You did this.

“Give me time to prove
Prove I want the rest of your
(Prelude)
Call this a prelude to a lifetime of you”

Wanting them back, so bad. Wanting a second chance.

“It's not that I hang on every word
I hang myself on what you repeat”

Wow, what a line. Gosh. Okay, this is saying I’m not obsessed, I am just reminded of what happened every time you mention it, in a bad way. Like you want to take back whatever undid this whole thing so badly.

“It's not that I keep hanging on
I'm never letting go”

People say Get over it, but love isn’t something you get over, nor does it ever go away.

“Hands like secrets are the hardest thing to keep from you
Lines and phrases like knives
You words can cut me through
Dismantle me down
Repair
You've dismantled me
You've dismantled me”

“Save me from myself
Save me from myself
Help me
Save me from myself
Save me from myself
Oh, woah”

Reaching out again, asking for help, to not lose yourself in all of this, to not mess up like this. To be a better person.

“Things are gonna change now
For the better
And woah, oh
Things are gonna change”

No one is saying this one, it’s just known. Time for good change now.

I don’t know if this is what the song means in depth- it is to me, obviously I put a lot of personal interpretation in there, my own experience. And it is helping me a lot, to be able to relate to it. I thank God for this… It’s such a beautiful song, and it’s really one of the coolest sounding songs I have ever heard. God bless all,

Rascal Flatts – He Ain't the Leavin' Kind Lyrics 15 years ago
Just a quick reflection on the lyrics, going along with the interpretation of it being about God not giving up on you.

"They tried their best to drag him out,
Of a courthouse down in Montgomery,"

People keeping God out of law...

"And now they wanna kick him out of school,"
Ever heard the wholw thing about taking "One nation under God" out of the Pledge? Plus taking religious relics out. It happens- some people are really against any show of Belief in school- a cross, a Bible, a Christmas Tree, a Word in a pledge.... moving on...

"And take him off our money,"
The "in God we trust", and the whole eye thing on our bills.

"They can take those words,
Off of paper and stone,
But He ain't gone, no,"
Even if they remove God from public life, doesn't make Him disappear.

"She stayed mad at Him for alotta years,
For takin' her husband,"
The husband died, staying mad at God for her husband dying.

"Started losin' her faith in thinkin' that,
Her life meant nothing,"

"But when she looks at those kids,
She raised all by herself,
She knows she had some help,
Yeah she knows,"
The help is God.

The chorus is basically self-explanitory, but God won't leave a person is the message.

Train – Marry Me Lyrics 15 years ago
Hey all. When I first heard this song I thought, "Aw, that's sweet. It's a proposal song." And then I listened in and disected the lyrics.

If you look at the music video, the begining shows a bunch of couples telling the story of how they met. Ha, one Youtuber even put down that they thought it was an ad for eHarmony before the actual video.

Although the music videos can't always be trusted for song meanings, I really think that this one was hinting something, particularly love at first sight. Not just infatuation, but love. That moment when you look at someone and think "I want them with me, always and forever. I will never hurt them, I will protect them and I will love them... now let's see, how do I introduce myself?"

Secondhand Serenade – A Twist In My Story Lyrics 15 years ago
Apparently it's about the day John Vesely became a father. So sweet of a sentiment, and it's a really sweet song, so real and raw. The orchestra really adds to it.

"'A Twist In My Story' is one of my favorite songs on the album. First off, the production is great. I always wanted to have an orchestral-based song, and I think it came together really well. I didn't really know what to do with it when we started recording. There were ideas of throwing in a full band, but I really had my heart set on keeping it simple and intimate. It needed to be acoustic-based, so I recorded the acoustic guitar track, and we sat down to start throwing ideas out. We ended up giving stings a try, and instead of keeping them in the background, we put them right up front.
This song is also very important to me because I wrote it about the day I found out I was going to be a father. It starts off with the phone call telling me the news and continues with the emotions and feelings running through my head. I wanted to make this song extremely personal and literal. I wanted to make it feel like the listener was there finding out with me."- John Vesely

No interpretations?

"This town is dirty, honey, even for a girl like you
Where the game is "Let's play fake"
and the players are the religious and the scoundrels
One in the same, oh what a shame
What an absolutely terrible shame"

Bad town, "bad" girl. Nothing to learn from, because those who would be a source of truth to her are fakes.

"There are liars outside your window
Singing syncopated rhythms, drowning in your ear
And they're all you ever hear"

The people who show her how to live.

"Your apathy says blame me for this"

Apathy= void/lack of emotion. So the problem is pointed at God, or at those who are actually good.

"Day two is quite the same
In fact, just change the name"

Days blurring, same destructive lifestyle.

"Let's change face, and the players are the religious and the scoundrels"

Once again, that fakeness. New faces, same crowd.

"Meet in the shady place today. What a terrible shame"

Hiding in the shadows affect, just to work with the tough-town imagery.

"You're home now, curled up
With your chin to your knee
Does it hurt to breath?
Just don't go to sleep"

Something wrong, she doesn't know what.

"Loose lips, wide hips
You don't have to beg
Each night a different man in your bed
But here's the question- does that man need you?"

So prostitution or casual sex, comes easy to her so she uses it to her advantage. Although they are her norm, her addiction, they don't need her.

"And he knows it
He knows he doesn't need you"

A lot of the Christian bands, or ones with Christian members, end up saying that they don't want their audience limited to just Christians. As a result, a long of the songs tend to be relatable on more levels than just one. It's also human nature, you know? You like what you like, no shame in it XD.
