| Silverstein – Born Dead Lyrics

This song ties into the storyline of the album because it's the reason for everything! the reason for the lack of morals, due to society and all it's flaws. The best friend can just go and romorselessly steal the main character's wife because he's born dead. The wife is a greedy, uncompassionate, cheating bitch because she's born dead. The main character is so susceptible to addiction because he's born dead. It's about how nobody even had a chance from the start to really make something of themselves or be a good person because a corrupt society has such a vicegrip on their hearts and minds. |

This song is about the betrayal of the best friend. About how the main character had his suspicions from the start, and how maybe the betrayer could have saved himself by just fessing up and admitting the wrong he committed. But the main character found out too fast, and it was all over. |

You lose in some way, no matter what. I used to have a friend, who betrayed me. And all of our friends, in a way. But we had something back in the day. A whole crew of inseperable friends. But it's all gone now, because of that one betrayal. Though some regard me as a hero for the things i've done to that former friend, we all lost something last year. We lost our brotherhood, and some of us lost our ambition. A hero loses every day. |

I love the way this album uses fire as a form of purging evil. I relate alot with this album. It reminds me of something that happened in my life about a year ago. I like to think of myself as similar to main character of it. And what better way to cleanse things or destroy them than with fire..?
"I am the light that warms up your body and sets free the demons inside."
"I can see through the flames that the fire cleanses me,
Mind and soul, now the same
And my body guides the way" (from A Great Fire) |

It's probably about that. Seeing as the song makes an exact reference to 57 souls. But i think it also has a deeper meaning that ties in with the rest of the album. This whole album reminds me of something that happened to me about a year ago. Me and my friends, we had a crew. The closest group of friends you'd ever meet of that size (20+ people). Then one of my best friends tried to steal my girlfriend (just like in the story) Except there's 2 main differences. First off, he didn't get her. Second, It was the betrayer who almost all of us turned against, rather than me. But one way or the next, it was the end of a union. A union that was obviously formed for the wrong reasons. The guy in this story lost everything "the protagonsist became the hero they disdain". It's kinid of an analogy, showing how he was left alone and betrayed. |
