After listening to this song for about three years now last week it clicked with me that at the start he says "oh her rocks" instead of just "the rocks." So the rocks he is referring to are like her heart and all the bad stuff that has happened to her have not destroyed her heart and he is tankful for the love her heart heart has always given. The boat is there love and one argument could finish it for him but her hopes her heart will always be there for him. Think it completely changes the meaning of the song... The piece about the sun and christmas often confused me but I think its saying if the sun is always shining then christmas wont be the same. Every relationship needs some snow or bad times so to speak... Thanks for helping me see what the final lyric was tho, I always thought it was "cuz you've just been ignored by this guy" haha =) |

| I was in an internet relationship before, twice. Both of the women were in relationships, one was married and one had a boyfriend, both had kids. So I can totally relate to this song, every lyric in it refers to an internet relationship. The line that hurt me everytime was "it kills me to know that when we are through, you go to your real lover who puts real kisses on you" I know exactly how he feels, it killed me! She has two lovers, and the internet one will always come second so he is her second lover.... I always felt the line about a man underground had to do with the fact that he was maybe in Wales (where Charlie Fink is from) and she was in the states so to her he would be underground? | |

The saint and the snake refers to saint patrick who chased the snakes out of Ireland apparently... a saint is chasing a snake for everybodys sake so they all go burning cars, i think refers to saint paddys day itself when everyone gets drunk and often burn out cars.... After listening to this song continuously for a month now I have finally realized what its about... At first I thought it was about him wanting to be counted among the great artists of the world. However I continued to listen and when i heard "young paul" it clicked its about St,Paul from the bible!! Many of you may know this already but some may not, Paul never met Jesus Christ although he was an apostle. He came to the faith when Jesus died. Thats why theres all the stuff about Heaven and Hell and being Born Again because Paul the baptist was born again christian... Thats what i think, I could be wrong of course but it feels right to me. Paul would have wanted to be counted among the rest of the apostles even though he was late in joining the gang so to speak.... |

Couple of small issues with the lyrics, i think its "love is a taste you (get) on the tip of your tongue" and "it (hits) you in your sleep and wakes you when it gets light"... Other than that its perfect thanks, I love this song so much!! Think its self-explanatory really, its about being in love with someone so much you would do anything for them....I love how he says better to have loved an lost than lived and never loved anyone, thats pure poetry! I think this album is far far FAR superior to their first album, its another league altogether!! |

i dont agree with zbaze at all,for the simple fact that, this is NOT a pop group!! they are clearly an indie group that is why they are so deep and original. dont comment on something you know nothing about. this is one of the best indie groups of our time, from start to finish there is not a bad song on the album, i also like the way they have brought there irish roots with a twist of british into the mix. they have married both our counties together in a way that 100 years of peace talks could not! |

well i feel its "pink mist or just LIP dry ice" As in warm breath on a cool night? Does that make sense? Her breath would seem to come out like dry ice vapor, its extremely poetic to be honest. That line stuns me every time... This argument about the two songs (keep yourself warm and the twist) contradicting is ludicrous,look at it this way... Think of the album as a complete story from start to finish... This song is two songs before keep yourself warm and in it he wants instant gratification so to speak. then in keep yourself warm he regrets it and realizes it didnt help at all... You get it now?? |
