Stranger Lyrics
Last night I slept with a stranger
For the first time, since you've gone
Regretfully lying naked, I reflect on what I've done
Her leg still forced inbetween mine, sticking to my skin
Stroking my chest and my hair, head resting below my chin
I'm a fox trapped in the headlgihts
and I'm waiting, for the tyres to spin over me
Cos everything I love has gone away
Oh, cos everything I love has gone away
Oh the dark night is moving slower, and sleep wont resuce me
Leaving me here to suffer, this shameful misery
So I long for a taste of freedom, or at least freedom from this bed
Silently picking up my clothes, I turn on my heels and I fled
And the dark of the street is no solace to me
Oh and I dont believe my conscience, will ever be clear again
Cos everything I love has gone away
Oh, cos everything I love has gone away
You know in a year, it's gonna be better
You know in a year, I'm gonna be happy
For the first time, since you've gone
Regretfully lying naked, I reflect on what I've done
Her leg still forced inbetween mine, sticking to my skin
Stroking my chest and my hair, head resting below my chin
I'm a fox trapped in the headlgihts
and I'm waiting, for the tyres to spin over me
Oh, cos everything I love has gone away
Leaving me here to suffer, this shameful misery
So I long for a taste of freedom, or at least freedom from this bed
Silently picking up my clothes, I turn on my heels and I fled
And the dark of the street is no solace to me
Oh and I dont believe my conscience, will ever be clear again
Oh, cos everything I love has gone away
You know in a year, I'm gonna be happy

I love this album, and it's beginning to seem like the songs connect to each other. If you chronologically follow the songs of this album you'll notice that each seems to be another step in getting over a relationship.
Yeah thats totally what it is, he just broke up with his ex before writing the album. Notice how there is no female backing singer? Thats cuz the backing singer was his girlfriend! In the first song its kinda hopeful then it gets darker and darker until he the final song he is over it and saying my door is always open for you =)

uhh wow, this song feels like it was lifted right out of my head. really really good.
This is an amazing song...it's about having a one-night stand to try and forget about your heartbreak, but it doesn't help, just makes it worse. Such good lyrics.
"Oh the dark night is moving slower, and sleep wont rescue me Leaving me here to suffer, this shameful misery So I long for a taste of freedom, or at least freedom from this bed Silently picking up my clothes, I turn on my heels and I fled And the dark of the street is no solace to me Oh and I don't believe my conscience, will ever be clear again"
Love that verse it is so intense and you can feel the sadness throughout the entire song. Beautiful song.
Forgot to mention I love the ending!! There is always hope in any situation no matter how bad it is at the time. Time heals all wounds.
Think the final lyrics are" And all in a year, its gonna be better. And all in a year, I'm gonna be happy." Like it will only take him a year to get over it, or maybe he is just giving himself a year even tho he knows it could be longer...
this song and this album are so real and so beautiful
This song is a true work of art. The beginning description of the regretful "morning after" is so chalk-full of amazing imagery, to me its almost John Darnielle-esque. I know how Fink felt (and realistically, might still feel) about this concept. I love my on-and-off (ex?) girlfriend with everything I have, and she's absolutely the beat thing to ever happen to my life. She's messed around with 2 guys, one the first time she left me, the second was after a few extremely short "on" periods. She knows this almost as well as I do, but I could never, WOULD never, ever exact revenge with even kissing another girl, whether she was allowing me to be DMAR [David McCarthy Alyssa Rice] with her, or rather asking me to rot in hell. To me, its cheating.. No matter the circumstance(s), I know who the love of my life is, my other half, shit, ny freaking soul mate! And to me, because she'll always be my one and only, I couldn't "sleep with a stranger" because, as Fink here describes the regret and sheer disappointment on letting yourself down. This song is a very strong realistic portrayal of something Fink and I. Certainly have in common. Well that's enough of my book-length thoughts brought to you by David's rambling manic brain! Now only 17 easy payments of 72.41! But wait! There's more#! Oh, there isn't more? Oh.. Okay.
