I feel like in this song he's talking to his fiance... telling her not to shy away from him, ride out the wave of fame, because I'm guessing it's probably intimidating to be in a relationship with a rockstar... I dunno it's just a guess, because they didn't really talk about it in the interviews yet. such a beautiful song though. definitely makes me tear up. |

Yea...in the interview Caleb says this is something he wants to say to his children - go out and be who you wanna be, but before it's all over, make sure you've loved. and I agree with Jared's opinion on this being one of the most beautiful songs and choruses I've ever heard. seriously when that line comes in..."I say.." and all the instruments sorta swell up together, I get goosebumps and tears in my eyes. every time. |

haha I'd actually just watched that interview, and was coming to post a correction to the lyrics. looks like I was just an hour off. and it's actually "nacho," their cousin, who travels with them as their techie (and apparently parties with them hardcore as well...lucky guy). totally agree with you on the favorite song thing. |

I FREAKED OUT in the front row when they played this song in Noblesville a few weeks ago. I dunno if I was allowed to know the words, or if they could tell from the way I was near tears that I had driven up from the south to see them in Indiana (hahaha...), but I hope they understood from my enthusiasm that I am soooo excited for the new album! I think this song is about them touring the world, with "the lights" and "the fights" and all those "pretty little girls." But they'll always love comin home to the south... I hear this part differently on the live version I have though.. Go on take my hand, Hope you see the band / When we see the band (??) Baby's gonna be a weird one. Baby's gonna be a weird one. This song is perfect. Such a smack in the face to all the haters who've been saying they're sell-outs (which is total bullshit). "NEVER SOLD YOURSELF AWAY" To me, it's like they're saying that they see how big they're getting, they see all the people following them...and it's crazy and scary, but amazing at the same time. And it's like they're promising that they'll always remember where they came from - since this was a song they were working on from before they were popular (at least in the US). You can't get away from where you came from - it's who you are, it's shaped you to be the person you always will be. |

completely agree with you Dave. Best band of my lifetime, and only getting better. I also think this song is about being young and thinking you're invincible - going through life and making mistakes, riding the highs, because that's what being young is all about. "jump in the waters when they are ragin" get out there, be the stranger, the fighter, whatever - because you are entitled to experience the world. and in the process, you find out who you are and you have to face that. "don't forget to love before you're gone" WHY IS THIS SONG SO AMAZING aahhh. it makes me wanna go change the world. or just be really young and reckless for a while. also I LOVE Jared's (I think it's his) beautiful voice in the chorus with the little echo-y effect. |

Well since it's off the hysteria single, I can't help associating it with that song - about wanting something so bad it tears you to pieces and drives you mad. I have no idea if this is correct, but when I heard this song I immediately thought of the idea of loving someone so much, but they're utterly unreachable. Like a celebrity, someone famous, or just someone way out of your league, or something more serious than that. They can't resist being so alluring, that's just how they are. And the person in love is so delusion, they don't care if it's real, they just love the way they feel about this unattainable person. and the verse about chasing your dreams away totally fits - that's the delusional person's rational self trying to get some sense. the chasing could refer to realizing that they can never have that person, yet they still blindly search for a connection or love - like glass needles in the hay, they're just utterly screwed. It's never gonna happen. But they forgive this amazing person...even for overshadowing them, making them feel like nothing - because they are their "holy shroud," their goal for perfection. I fucking love this song.... Also the extra sounds, like winding/musical toys, in the beginning and end - makes me associate the whole song with a dreamlike, delusional, naive state. |

for me, this song just perfectly describes my feelings toward love at my age and in my exact situation. How I've been chasing after love so desperately, because when you're young it seems like the only worthwhile thing in the world. this song speaks to the conflict that passionate love presents with something I believe in - not giving myself over to "desire" and sleeping with someone just because I want to, even though I may not be ready. How I want love so badly that I'd give up something I believe in, set fire to everything, because I'm scared if I say no the person will forget about me and leave me behind. love is just a funny little notion, a dream that I fancy myself with, and when my heart is broken I'm quickly woken from that dream and end up dying all over again. isn't it creepy when a song fucking gets you right in the gut? |

I totally get how this song is about a city, it makes sense and obviously the reference is toward "stab city" but the first time I heard the song, before I knew all that, it meant something a bit different to me. I felt like it was talking about someone who is just completely frustrated about being alone, exhausted from searching for their someone. "I've been so tired, I can barely breathe" and every time they get close to love, it just falls apart or was never even there in the first place. "'cause even when I find the love it's fake, and everything I want to touch would break" and you're just begging the person you love to see how you feel and understand "Open your eyes, Once and try to see" it's a bit of a stretch when he talks about the town with snakes in the grass and the souls crying out, but it makes total sense to me because of the town I am in right now, with so many souls and negative connotations to me - especially now that I've gone through heartbreak again. and the guy will always be associated with this town and the places we've been in it and all that... "So don't say you'll see me" - this line just kills me, the way he's almost screaming it, but still it's so softly spoken...like he's about to break down every time he says it, it's so desperate. amazing stuff. |

a little late in the game but I'd like to add my two cents anywho...I heard this song for the first time a few weeks ago and it woke me up like a slap to the face. pretty much explained my exact feelings, or at least what I was hiding (no pun intended haha) to me it's about someone who's always been on their own, alone, and that's the way they feel like they'll always be and they think they'll be happy like that. but honestly they know they won't, they just keep saying that to make it easier. (they say it but they don't mean it) they lost the ability to let others in a long time ago, maybe they were hurt or it just faded (In a sense, lost so long ago, No one cares, so why should you?). and even if they find someone they feel like they can open up to, change for, take a chance on...they can't. and they run away and never see what could've been. ...gahd I need to grow some balls and ask that damn guy out. |

"who's gonna save ya come and take us home" that part always bugged me, and I jumped when I saw it on rock band 2 just cuz it kicks ass and I was excited to play it. so I'm jamming on the guitar and my sister is singing, and I though it would just skip that part. But it had the lyrics and she fucking sings the line, and I stop everything and I'm like, WHAT DID HE SAY. hahaha it was a great moment. |
