Mary Lyrics

Mary if you wanna
I'll wave my right
I'd be on the corner
Just passing time

No I won't never once make you cry
Just a kiss oh I'll miss your good bye
Ha ha ha ha ha ha

We'll go to the disco
We'll be a sight
We'll dance like we're boyfriends
In sheer delight

No I won't never once make you cry
Just a kiss oh I'll miss your goodbye

No I won't never once make you cry
Just a kiss oh I'll miss your goodbye
Ha ha ha ha ha ha

Ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha ha

When I first heard this song, I thought it might be about marijuana in the same way that Mi Amigo is about alcohol. Just based on the way Caleb sings the first line like "Mary if ya wanna" makes it sound like he's saying that. Waiving his right could be like, giving up what he wants to and just going with the feeling of the drug. Standing on the corner passing time sounds like pretty much every reefer head I know. And I guess when you're high, you don't discriminate who you dance with at the club, so you might accidentally boogie with your best guy friend. And by saying he won't ever make "Mary" cry, he's saying, "I'll never give up smoking!"

That whole concept makes the song make sense to me, but I don't know if the guys in the band smoke that much. It would be a funny/awesome secondary meaning.

It also goes with the psychedelic/Beatles-ish style the song has.

yeah after the first line i was sure it was a weed song haha

Check out the Come Around Sundown interviews on the KOL YouTube channel. Caleb explains that he wrote the song as a response to Nathan getting married. He was unhappy about it cos he felt like he was losing his best buddy so he's actually singing "marry if you wanna, I'll waive my right" in a kind of bravado, 'screw you' tone. Then in second verse, he refers to Nacho saying they'll go out and do all the fun things he used to do with Nathan but fears he's losing out on now that Nathan will be married. Great song, love the vocal harmonies and seriously one of the best intros to a song ever-but not theeee best cos nothing beats McFearless!:-)

a few mistakes in the lyrics..

in an interview caleb said the song is called "mary" as in "marry me". it's just spelled like the name.. so the lyrics are

mary, if you wannna i'll waive my rights

then he goes on to say that the second verse is about a friend of theirs named pablo. the second verse goes:

oh, and we'll dance like we're boy friends..

kinda awkward but i imagine he's referring to the "sheer delight" not the actual homosexual thing lol.. the rest of the lyrics seem spot on, bud. spectacular song and great album. what i love about the kings is that every single one of their songs at one point or another has been my favorite song. nuff said

haha I'd actually just watched that interview, and was coming to post a correction to the lyrics. looks like I was just an hour off.

and it's actually "nacho," their cousin, who travels with them as their techie (and apparently parties with them hardcore as well...lucky guy).

totally agree with you on the favorite song thing.

Actually, "I'll wave my rights" is correct, at least according to the lyrics in the cd booklet.

I like this song, it's very upbeat. He's talking about how much fun he has had with "Mary." And when they kiss, it reminds him of something he will miss.. especially when she is gone.

Just one little mistake, it should be "We'll be a sight" instead of "We'll be desired"

Awesome song, kind of sticks out in the middle of all those slower, more emotional songs.

Love the intro, dum dum dum dum BAM haha and i love it when the music stops and caleb goes ah ah ahha ah ah as for the meaning caleb said he was annoyed at nathan at the time for leaving the house n getting married hence the "mary if you wanna, i wave my right" not sure if the entire song is about him but a good song nonetheless

I believe that the lyrics are also about his grandmother, Mary. She is a big influence in their life and i believe it's a song about her.

By saying "no i wont, never once, make you cry", i believe he's saying that he wants to please his grandma and make her proud

I love Caleb, so i don't even care what the lyrics are about, but i like interpreting songs in my own way
