| Neutral Milk Hotel – Home Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Rose Wallace Goldaline was abused at home, which is why "home" is "just another word she'll always push away". Going off other songs, such as "Oh Sister" and "Oh Comely" and probably many more, I'm guessing she was someone who lived with the narrator as a sister, maybe a stepsister. And he loves her, and he's threatening to take revenge on the ones who hurt her. I wonder if "sightings" should be "sidings". |

| Built to Spill – In Your Mind Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
"coincidence gave a confession that no one's allowed to forget I don't wanna give the impression that predestination is set" synchronicity; once you notice it, once you start seeing the patterns and the connections everywhere, you can't ignore it. You can't forget it. "the distance will increase the danger where certainty's never enjoyed regarded as equal yet stranger embark then embrace then destroy" I think it sounds like he's saying "ignore", not "embark". the talk about quantum physics in previous comments made me read this and be reminded of the Copenhagen interpretation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copenhagen_interpretation "when magnifications explore there slowly emerges a pattern the details you normally ignore you notice really what matters" I cannot help but feel that this could be a reference to the use of psychedelic drugs and how it expands your awareness; how it makes you see with more depth, like the lens of a microscope. In fact, many users of psychedelic drugs will tell you how the experience helped them come to some of the conclusions written in this song, without them having any previous knowledge that these theories already existed and have been discussed by great minds. |

| Cage the Elephant – Lotus Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| lotus is a hallucinogen. In case you haven't noticed, this world is a huge mess. Humanity has gone in the wrong direction for ages now. He took a psychoactive substance and watched the sunrise and started thinking that it's all going to change. pretty simple. | |

| Cage the Elephant – Tiny Little Robots Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
from the day we're born we're conditioned to consume, consume, consume, to want things we don't need. We've lost sight of what's really important, because we are too distracted, and that's how the powers that be want it. Robots are easier to control. "they'll keep you so amused you'll never taste the truth" in huxley's "brave new world" it is unheard of to spend time alone, just thinking or doing nothing. Everyone is always doing something to stay amused and not have to really think. Sadly, it kind of sounds like our society. TV, radio, advertisements, it's just a way to keep us distracted from the real issues and to breed materialism and make us want to constantly buy things. I don't know if these people are smart or the general population is stupid, because it seems to work on most people. but some of us know what's right, and you can join us on the other side... |

| Built to Spill – Reasons Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I can't believe how much everyone is looking into this song. Or maybe I'm not reading enough into it? I thought it was obvious from the first line on that the song is about having sex. Two different sexual experiences, it seems. | |
