urgh! i just found out something horrible! there's now some site using the same address (rspaa) which has porn, do NOT type that address in. sorry if the previous comment got your hopes up. i was shocked and disgusted when that came up on google. that's probably why the smashing pumpkins audio archive seems to be inaccessible now. i feel disgusted about this. |

this is a great song, i think it's a shame it was never commercially released in any form. I got an mp3 from rspaa.org (reborn smashing pumpkins audio archive). |

quite a few of these lyrics given at the top of the page are wrong.
i think this song has a kind of melancholy feel, which i like. at first i disliked the 4-minute feedback coda but now i'm glad it's there. possibly my fave song on goo. |

i'm giving too much personal information here. why do i post comments so impulsively? if i could delete that last one i wouldn't be wasting my time writing this one.
this is a very pretty song. as for what it's about, it does indeed sound like some of it is about record collecting, mainly the first verse. but that middle vocal section, where the melody changes (howling scriptures, caught shadow, little darlings etc.) must have something to do with romantic fantasies. the two themes seem to mix in the last verse. |

the lyrics here are wrong. the chorus is in fact "sugar babe, sugar babe, turn the TV, turn it babe, turn it babe, can't you see me? sugar now, sugar now, turn the TV, turn it babe, turn it babe, can't you see me? check on sonicyouth.com if you don't believe me. |

"Apart from obvious references this song isnt about Kurt"
a thurston moore quote, says whiskeyclonehotel. the song is about drug users in general, not specifically kurt cobain. he did, however use the words 'obvious references'; there's that line 'all i know is all in all is all i've heard. don't you think that was kind of borrowed from Nirvana's song All Apologies (ends with repetition of "all in all is all we are")? and 'you know i hate myself but i love everybody else' was obviously something Kurt felt, but i'm sure other users feel that too. so i think that sums it up. |

Actually, listening to those tracks again may have slightly changed my opinion. Helen Lundeberg, while kind of rough-sounding, does have a certain grating-but-satisfying quality in parts of the song, but isn't up to the standard of the rest of the album. Eyeliner kind of goes on sounding the same with no instrumental breaks, which is a bummer for me partly because I don't like the lyrics, all right for a while but it does start to drag on. Although 'Or' would be a nicer ending to the album, bonus tracks are always a good thing. |

The music in the background is apparently made from clips of KISS playing (as well as the repetition of "I know!"), the song is I think a jab at such 'stadium-rock' acts. I personally think it would've fitted better on The Whitey Album than on Sister. 'Ciccone' was Madonna's maiden name, also The Whitey album was credited to Ciccone Youth, and each member used a pseudonym as well: The Royal Tuff Titty (Thurston's rapping alter-ego), ss beat control (Steve), The Sigh (Lee) and Fly Fly Away (Kim). So it makes quite a few references to Ciccone Youth also. |

No comments here? I'll be the first then. I believe Karen Koltrane is an artist, who may have had some kind of connection with the band...I don't know...I wasn't able to find very much information when I googled the name...just some stuff about an exhibition. Most of my search results were lyrics to this song! Oh, by the way, I think it may have said the exhibition was called "Modern Women Cry, Modern Women Don't Cry" which is a line from "Female Mechanic Now On Duty" Hey what a coincydink...
This must be a song about her, and a fine one too - some beautifully ethereal sound effects. |

A little on the obscene side lyrically...the instrumental version "No Garage" doesn't have that, but then it also doesn't have any of that nice noize at the end, which is rather blissful. (You can download a free mp3 of "No Garage" and others at http://www.freewebs.com/sonikyouth/epsingles.htm. scroll down 'til you find it. I think No Garage was also a bonus track on Japanese imports of The Eternal.) |

Anyone else pissed off by the fact that Geffen made them cut the coda of the end for an 'accessible opening track'? I'm sure most fans of this band, like me, like extended instrumental parts. Becuz Coda is the actual name of the 'untitled' track 9 on Washing Machine. Including this part at the end its length is about seven and a half minutes. It's great anyway, despite having been edited. |

I can't believe how many positive comments this song gets! It is so fucking overrated! In my opinion it is almost as bad as Tales Of A Scorched Earth and X.Y.U. It's great when Corgan rocks out, but not to the point of sounding vicious, which he definitely does in Tales... and X.Y.U. Am I the only one who thinks this song is just average? |

My first thought when I first saw the title of this song was 'yuck, is that a song title referring to ejaculation? Ew!' The thought seemed kinda disgusting and in fact because of that Sonic Nurse was one of the last Sonic Youth studio albums I downloaded. (I was missing out on a pretty damn good album!) When I had got the album I found the music was surprisingly pretty but the words 'dripping dream' still stopped me from being keen to listen to it.
But now the optimistic part for which I wish to thank this website and the users who have posted comments here:
Thanks for these explanations. Hearing that it's not just about dirty stuff is a relief (romantic ideals is actually kind of sweet if that's what it is), and I can now listen to it happily. Thanx ;) |

Yes I know I am a prude/square/dork, and I'm fucking proud of it, okay? >:( Besides, I'm at an age where these things can seem scary. );
Can't deny how good the music is though. ;)

One of my favorite sonic youth songs. Assuming the lyrics are about Coko that is very beautiful, and the music is even more beautiful. I love the long instrumental part, and it may be nine minutes long but it certainly doesn't drag on. If anything, it's too short! :) |

To me it seems as simple as what Lisa Carver said in the EVOL liner notes: that the song is about love (you've probably noticed that EVOL is LOVE spelled backwards) and "Green light means go ahead", and kind of what Garage Band Kind18 said basically. |

I'm surprised this isn't noted as an 'alternate version' on Machina II - the original version is the Adore outtake that appears on judas O. (apparently what looks like an 'O' with a line thru it [as with the title of that album] is pronounced like the 'i' in 'bird'. Interesting, eh?)
I think that, since it is not noted as an alternate version this version should be referred to as 'Satur9', as it is, I believe, listed as that on some sites, whereas the Adore-era version is always spelled 'Saturnine'.
Oh, and it's one of my favourite tracks on Machina II. I'm not sure which version I prefer. |

To me the vocals on this track just seem to play the part of an additional instrument, somewhat obscured by the music. And personally I love that.
I think Vanity is an amazing song. Beautiful. Saying 'MACHINA/the machines of God' was a return to form is a complete lie. But I actually think Billy is sounding more like his earlier self with this song. To me it is Corgan's last really brilliant song; the Machina albums had their moments but overall the standard was quite average. And I think Zeitgeist proves he can't write stuff like this any more. For me this song is the real standout from Machina II. :) |

Yes, fairly good song etc. But why is the full 8-minute version so hard to find? That annoys me a bit. I have got it though, from some bootleg on a site which may or may not be slightly dodgy. And why the heck did Billy put the shortened version (which can be found on Rotten Apples/Greatest Hits) on Rarities and B-Sides? (That compilation could be seen as a bit of an insult to collectors, by the way; some of those songs are not rare.) Anyway, the feedback/e-bow solo at the end is excellent. |

To be honest I don't really think much of the poem. I am commenting here on the track itself.
This does not sound like it is part of "Blissed And Gone", unless there is another version of that song somewhere...
I would like it if it could be longer, as it sounds quite interesting, makes me want to hear more. |
