I definitely feel like this song is about a close friend he has feelings for and he's scared of messing up their friendship by acting on it. I love the line "all my friends have gone to find another place to let their hearts collide". I interpret that as him saying everyone around has moved on from the past loves but he's still stuck on this one girl. Also, when he says "as drunk as I have ever been", I get the feeling that he doesn't actually mean he's been drinking. I think he means love drunk. I believe this song is about her personal struggle with her religion and her career. Not necessarily her belief in God, but basically, what's expected of her as a Christian, but what the media expects of her as an artist, and the kind of artist she actually wants to be. It's not so much that she doesn't want to be singing about kissing girls and big cocks and is forced to so as to stay relevant in the industry, she actually ENJOYS what she's doing, she likes the music she sings, and likes being a provactive and edgy artist. It's that she feels conflicted because of how she was raised and probably worries that this isn't what God would want for her.
