| Pinback – Offcell Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
The ending throws me off...cell However, it seems it's about trying to work through a known issue of being empty a certain way that is meaningful, in relating to another person. A hole in the heart and in the sole, but they aren't parallel, they make it take "a long time, sometimes" but knowingly they "try by design." They consider it foreign, "couldn't say it's mine," only being able to stand behind the actions do make, "all I bring to you." But there is more for them to give and they know it, stuck in the hole in their heart and sole. With the quick instrumental changes before saving it "in an empty bottle," it may have come out because of being fucked up, "hard to see straight." Their hoping "till you crack the very center," "and if it breaks," they can "take it down" and subdue it, "spread it around," not even caring to compartmentalize it or understand why it was there. Just "bag the parts for later, leave them around." Concentrate on the present of having broken down an emotional wall, a release to finally embrace whole heart and soul. |

| Phantogram – Celebrating Nothing Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Pretty straight forward. I really like the line: I hide behind my eyes and lies and broken mirrors Disguise of being 'there' or complete through their open, awake eyes and their words that are actually "lies," and what is in the mirror, not their whole person, broken appearances - "mirrors" Seems similar to "Black Out Days," it's not the whole person dying, just an aspect, behavior set, and/or a self image, created appearance or presence. |

| Phantogram – Black Out Days Lyrics | 12 years ago |
|
Considering many other Phantogram songs, this is looking back at the, the days of distorted, forgotten, lost, unsettled memory, from When I'm Small being "underground", with "lucy", wanting to be thrown "in the flames" ... "the black out days." "Dig a hole," but unlike When I'm Small, keep the depths away, look to the sky. Discrepancy on the parenthesized lyrics at the end, They're definitely not all the same. I hear "they're not mine" in one of them, as in the voices aren't theirs anymore, "Black out days, I don't even recognize you anymore" |

| Phantogram – When I'm Small Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| Thank you. This is pretty obvious, mouse lab testing... | |
| Built to Spill – Just A Habit Lyrics | 13 years ago |
|
Fodder, but pronounced to rhyme with "are" in the next line, because: It's a sonnet: "this ones a super -sonnet-": unconventional though: "this one's a freak" I think in the end, he's saying he isn't trying to make any statements with his music or lyrics: "there's no reason for it / don't despise it and don't adore it / it's just a habit" |

| It's "sore tooth way" | |
| Broadcast – Michael A Grammar Lyrics | 16 years ago |

That's too bad. It's an awesome song. I think the lyrics are pretty explicit in what their meaning... other than 'saw tooth wave.' ??? |

| Silversun Pickups – All the Go Inbetweens Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think 'thembraincells' and 'staticairways' are pretty close, but way too specific. I agree with it is a sort of crisis, but not mid life. I think it's definitely young person that wants to do something extremely meaningful, but is unsure of what. The 'holes in the ocean' is just an analogy for new frontiers or discoveries that he/she can't accomplish because they've been done. The 'saftey in numbers' is ambition to do things on his/her own on 'the mile' which I agree to be life. The 'sidewalk' deal is obviously impossible. It represents any impossible idea that someone can strive for in life. This is the 'dream' he/she is asks the 'man' if he/she is 'in the right' about. The 'man' is sort of double meaningful, as a representation of the stereotypical collected old man. He says he's been to the 'moon and the stars...' in the exaggerated manner of so many old guys telling tall tales to prove points. He just wants 'quite' after he has made his point. (1) He's basically just saying calm down, you're young. (2) He ignores his actual question, and the manner of a stereotypical old man, jumps on technology and pop culture instead. He has no answer. Wise old men are not wise old men. I'm not sure if this is repeated for meaning or for musical effect. I think more so musical, because it's awesome. But it does show the 'man' continually replies the same thing with nothing new or insightful. I think you leave the song with: Oneself is the only place to find answers, but don't get too worked up about things. We have time, we're young. |

| Beach House – Silver Soul Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think it's incredibly interesting how different I hear a lot of these lyrics. You hear what you think you hear. The only line I'm certain I have correct that is different from this is: It's a quick turn, to let us in, yeah... Makes sense, and has symmetry with the final line of the first stanza. |

| Autolux – Asleep At The Trigger Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
look you think i'm unglued but still studying you you fold up all over town stereo-mindset sucking you down They think the singer is unlgued. Singer sees more in the person, enough to 'study' them Singer sees that they close them selves off, don't let themselves out The 'stereo-mindset' (attitudes of what is on the radio - what is popular) keeps them from letting it out The singer sees what this person could really be and it 'gets them down.' Love this song. |

| Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Runaway Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I love this song. I wouldn't say it's simple though. It has a pretty substantial build up instrumentally, but her voice stays the same throughout. I think that's what make it seem simple, but really it adds to the complexity. Overall, just fantastic... though I'm partial to piano... ESPECIALLY a piano intro. SO good. |

| Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Little Shadow Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| That's exactly what I heard too! It's quite beautiful. Definitely a movie soundtrack type song. | |
| Pavement – Harness Your Hopes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Those lyrics you have are definitely different. Do you not have the version from the Spit on a Stranger EP? If you do and you just like those lyrics better... pride yourself on the ability to hear what's not there. This song is fucking awesome. I don't think this song can have one meaning. It gets at so many aspects of society. Sexuality, Politics, Dress styles, Stereotypes and it's happy... maybe that's the point. And I'm checking out the asses The assets that attract us To anything that moves We're deep inside the grooves Far away from the begining The shroud is made of lenin Love it. |

| Page France – Windy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Getting lost in yourself, your imagination, your childish happiness. Remind me who I am and what you are 'Cause when our eyes close we're the same ... But please if you must take a peek Don't spoil for me my mystery But we're all just humans, and we're all going to die, and when that happens, we're all the same. But he'd rather not spoil the fun of imagination. SO good. So is "We'll Never Sleep" |

I definitely like this version better... but I'm very partial to Pavement. Donnie Darko - fantastic. |

"Please will the highway never end?" Can a life be complete without having felt that at least once? |

| Built to Spill – Distopian Dream Girl Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Two/three years ago that comparison, I think, was acceptable. Commenting on that now, with path Death Cab has fallen down to, is a completely different story. Terrific song. All good bands. Different strokes for different folks. | |
| Built to Spill – Untrustable/Pt. 2 (About Someone Else) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| He's right though. No need to hate. | |
| Shout Out Louds – Hard Rain Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Cardamom is actually similar to ginger and cinnamon - sweet. I think that plays to the idea of words coming like hard rain. You can always smell it (a nice smell to most people) right before it starts pouring down on you. Everything else is pretty much explicitly said in the lyrics. |

| Ra Ra Riot – Too Too Too Fast Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
It seems like it's about a past relationship that could be on the verge of coming back. "We have forgotten so much since -then-" past "The scent of your breath -again-" now "She'd have said it's cruel" Girl between past and present that doesn't accept what he cares about. "Don't fall (in love again)" "The feeling that you're not mine" He doesn't want it to come back because he has "No sense of what's left or gone." "The way that we are - I can't tell - I'f I'm asleep or awake" "We're [pretending/making up] words in the place of people we used to know." He doesn't know if they are truly falling in love again or just dreaming up their past feelings. |

| Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin – Anna Lee Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
For the second portion, I hear: 'If you found out how far we've gone' 'I've been stressing marching on' 'Seven hours before it's done' Then: Anna Lee 'You're almost free' 'I'm not to cause of all the good things that you see' Broken throat and a heart that bleeds Stomach's trembling and I'm getting weak in the knees I don't know. These are pretty tough to hear perfectly clear. Fantastic song though. Screaming, broken heart over Anna Lee being happy with all the good things that are not caused by him and that kills. |

| Starfucker – Pop Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It seems to be pretty straight forward just like all the other songs. A pop star that doesn't live like he would with the money. | |
| Starfucker – Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Love Starfucker. Simple lyrics. Simple instrumentals. But it comes together as a smooth complexity. | |
