| Embrace (US) – Last Song Lyrics | 11 years ago |
even though this is a little known band i'm still shocked that no one has commented on this. fucking great song off a great album. i'm not totally sure what he's saying at the end there but it sounds like "won't you let me pray for you" or something to that effect. does anybody know? |

| Collective Soul – Heavy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Doesn't matter the specific interpretation, but generally speaking it's obviously about the weight he feels due to another, whether that's a friend of his or his significant other. He's tired of the shit and he just needs him/her to know. I think we've all felt like this one time or another, especially in a relationship that becomes dominated by bullshit. You're torn because you've agreed to support this other person, but there's a limit to what a human being can support. Eventually, no matter the promises you've made to each other, there's a point where you have to admit things. I think this is just his confession, his admittance that he can't take it anymore. | |
| Kid Cudi – Embrace the Martian Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Last night I was really baked and this was the fucking best song I'd ever heard. It still is, high or not. Just super chill. | |
| Dishwalla – Give Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This really is a beautiful song. It's melancholy and definitely a little bitter, but you can't help but feel the love and the disappointment of the narrator, because in my opinion he's coming to terms with the fact that he will likely lose the woman he loves so very much simply because there's nothing he can do to make her happy, no matter how hard he tries. And I can certainly relate. It's haunting--"I want to remain a child with you forever"--I think we all feel like that sometimes. The narrator, when he was young and in love with this woman, had nothing to worry about, and things between them were beautiful. He longs for the ability to stay the hands of time, because he knows that if they didn't have to grow up then they never would have come to such bitter terms. He tries so hard for her, but she's never satisfied, and when he tries to leave, she "tease[s] him and tell[s] him to stay." So he stays, trying to convince himself that things can work...but deep down he knows they never will. So he just wistfully wishes that time could stop. |

| Gin Blossoms – Long Time Gone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song needs more comments...old Gin Blossoms is the best stuff, but their new stuff is nearly on par. Great song. It's just about a guy who's fed up with his girl. Things aren't working out between them, and he knows they never will. He's maybe known that for a while, so none of this is a surprise, he's just now finally resigning himself to the fact that he has to be true to himself and rid himself of anything that could jeopardize what he's built himself to be as an individual, even if that includes a girl he may care about a lot. He's tried to be patient and understanding, but he's reached the breaking point. |
| Gin Blossoms – Day Job Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I don't know what he means by that actually. "Conquer doubt" just means that he set out to be sure of himself and confident in what he did, but Frisbee...not sure what that has to do with anything. | |
| No Doubt – Just A Girl Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I'm a dude and I like this song. I'm not really huge on third-wave feminism, but I'll go for some third-wave ska. I wish people wouldn't argue over this song--it doesn't make any sense. My dad used to listen to No Doubt all the time when I was a kid, and he definitely didn't do it to spread word for women's rights. This song, just like any other song, should be appreciated musically and lyrically. It's just a good song with a good message. No need to get militant about it. But yeah, even if it makes me gay or something I love No Doubt. |
| Gin Blossoms – Hold Me Down Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is so fantastic. It's about a gluttony that has no reason anymore, one that brings more pain than it ever alleviated in the first place. Even if you've never experienced that feeling from the standpoint Doug Hopkins did with his alcoholism, it still applies a lot of other places. What's so intriguing about Gin Blossoms is that a song can be so serious in nature, but the melody itself can still be in some way uplifting. In a really ironic sense, that seems to add to the melancholy for me. Some of their songs are some of the most beautifully sad songs ever written. |
| Circa Survive – Stop the Fuckin' Car Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It feels to me like when he says "Don't stop talking to me, I haven't been listening," it's almost like...it's like there was something/someone in his life that he didn't pay attention to before, but now that they've stopped talking he suddenly wants to listen for whatever reason. Just a thought. |
| The Mars Volta – Things Behind the Sun (Nick Drake cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is such an awesome cover, though. | |
| Foo Fighters – The Pretender Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Okay, so I don't care how nerdy I sound, but whenever I listen to this song all I see in my head are two of my characters for a book I'm writing talking to each other, using the lyrics as their dialogue. So kickass. |
| Bacilos – Caraluna Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Sí, estoy de acuerdo. Hoy escuché en mi clase de español, y ya me encanta. No sé el razón…eh, no creo que tengo un razón. No tengo que tenerlo. Es una canción fantástica. |
| L'arc-en-ciel – Ready Steady Go (English) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| FMA kicks so much ass, as does this song. L'arc-en-ciel gave some of the greatest themes to that series. I know every thinks "Rewrite" by Asian Kung-Fu Generation was the coolest opening, and it was pretty cool, but the lineup of Riza, Armstrong, Hughes, and Roy all in a row with this song in the background is way too fucking cool ;D | |
| L'arc-en-ciel – New World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Gah. WHY HAS NO ONE COMMENTED ON THIS SONG YET??? You people are nuts. Actually, no one's commented on most of L'arc-en-ciel's stuff. ANYWAYS. Really cool song. Really cool bass pattern. I won't even try to verify if the lyrics are right, because I don't feel like even trying to pretend I'm fluent in Japanese XD They look right enough. |
| The Mars Volta – Ouroborous Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I totally agree with The Goofy. The first five songs are amazing, then the second half is...well, half and half. This is definitely part of the better half. The meter in this is part of why I like it. It's sorta like Tetragrammaton where they go in one meter for three bars, then to end the phrase on the fourth they add a beat. Excellent. |
| The Mars Volta – Metatron Lyrics | 17 years ago |
HOLY HELL. I JUST PISSED MYSELF. This song is completely the most amazing thing I've ever heard. It's definitely still TMV, but it's somehow different. And it's a damn good different. My favorite new song. |
| Trapt – The Game Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It sucks, because he's totally talking to me. | |
| Trapt – New Beginning Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I really hate myself for liking this song, but I hate myself even more because it totally fits me right now. To me, Trapt isn't that great of a band, but this is pretty nice. The reason I don't like them is because usually they're pretty average and predictable, but this song quite pleasantly isn't. However, they still can't pull off that whole five minute span of time where there's nothing but distortions and shit. Only The Mars Volta can own that shit ;D |
| Matchbox Twenty – Black and White People Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I swear, when I first listened to this song, it was like Rob Thomas had some crystal ball and has been watching me for the part few months. This song is RIGHT on for me lately. To me, it's talking about how sometimes you just feel so fucked up, but you're holding onto one chance of getting out. After a while though, it starts to seem hopeless, and still the "technicolor people" go on with their happy lives. Yet you still can't give up, like the "One boy headstrong" verse says. Amazing. |
| The All-American Rejects – Move Along Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Okay, I really hate this band. I don't go for a whole lot of this mainstream powerpop. But I'll be damned if this isn't a great, catchy song. And it's something that most all of us can relate to. | |
| The Mars Volta – Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore: C. Pisacis (Phra-Men-Ma) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Whoa. Great song. Miranda/Cassandra is a great song as a whole, but this is definitely one of my favorite parts. Especially the part with, "And the owls, they were watching..." So awesome. | |
| The Mars Volta – Ilyena Lyrics | 18 years ago |
My favorite song off TBIG. Don't know what it's about yet, but I'm workin' on it. Also, I think "entity ingredients" is "entity, inbreed the ends." That's just what I hear. |
| The Mars Volta – Aberinkula Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The lyrics look straight on to me man, except one line. "Plans of a god made 99 times" sounds more like, "Plans have forgot me 99 times." Anyone else hear that? Either way, AMAZING song. Can't wait for the new album. This is definitely gonna be one of my favorite songs. And yea, I feel the same way, mikey :P The problem with most bands today is that they have no variation in their playing. They're totally predictable. 4/4 time (sometimes 3/4 and the OCCASIONAL 6/8), straight, simple drum beat, lyrics that a monkey could come up with...but TMV basically kicks the shit out of all of that. The crazy meters and the lyrics are enough to keep me with 'em forever. |
| At the Drive-In – Rolodex Propaganda Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Freakin' love this song. It's really confusing, but I think what's been said makes good sense. The chorus is fantastic. Especially that...flute, is it? It sounds like a flute. Anyway, yea, it's got a good rhythm. | |
| Counting Crows – Mr. Jones Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Great song. It always makes me feel good. No matter how shitty I am at the time, it makes me remember that somewhere someone else is feeling my same pain, and I'm not alone. | |
| Matchbox Twenty – How Far We've Come Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| After watching the music video, I agree that that could be a theme to this song, NewComplaint. | |
| Matchbox Twenty – How Far We've Come Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think you guys are all reading way too much into this song. The "end of the world" isn't really the Apocolypse in this song, I don't think. It's really nothing more than something coming to an end, and that something is determined by whoever listens to the song and whatever they want it to be. You could liken it to the actual end of the world, I suppose...but I don't think it's supposed to be that. You reflect on your life, and you ask yourself if you're happy with what you've done. Then you realize you're not, and you want to do something, but you're not sure what. You start running away, but you realize that there's nowhere for you to go, and you feel trapped inside your own life. You feel worthless, and you wonder if you can ever make it out. Excellent song. I freakin' love Matchbox Twenty. |
| Vertical Horizon – Everything You Want Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Totally my song right now. It's basically perfect for me beyond all reason right now. This song kicks soo much ass, I can't even believe it. Also, for the record, I'm tired of people constantly making songs about Jesus. VH is not a Christian band, and these lyrics are obviously not Christian. |
| The Mars Volta – Cassandra Geminni: Tarantism Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I can't believe no one's comment on this yet. I LOVE this song. I just love how Cedric sings the, "The air is growing cold, cold, cold, cold, cold, and there's nothing you can do." It kicks so much ass. As far as the Miranda/Cassandra Gemini songs go, this isn't my favorite, but I do like it. I think it's talking about that though she doesn't know them, she still has a family. I'm not too familiar with the story behind the album, but it seems that her family or certain members of her family are dead, and it seems to have created an endless night in her life. TMV kicks ass! |
| The Mars Volta – Cicatriz ESP Lyrics | 18 years ago |
ROFL. Yea, that's the part of the song where my dancing becomes more or less just a seizure. Same thing happens when I'm listening to "Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus," and he goes, "WHO DO YOU TRUST??? WILL THEY FEED US THE WOMB???" I liken this song to how shitty the state of Minnesota is. Once you drag all the lakes here, there's really nothing left. Meh. Perhaps I just prefer Michigan too much. Great song, though. |
| The Mars Volta – Cassandra Geminni: Multiple Spouse Wounds Lyrics | 18 years ago |
ROFL. I don't know what you guys don't like about Frances the Mute. I think De-Loused was better, but it's still a damn good album. I love how they bring the original melody back in this section as sort of a full circle ending to the song. And when he starts singing the, "No there's no light, no there's no time, you ain't got nothing, your life was just a lie" in the background, I almost get goosebumps. The lyrics coupled with the way he sings it at that part just describes a feeling of desperation, like nothing you've ever done was worth anything. Kickass. |
| At the Drive-In – One Armed Scissor Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it can be about so many different things, and it doesn't matter which one you pick to be its personal meaning for you. Personally, I like to think of the interpretation that it's about men on a space station/ship, and their life support systems are dying. They right home to tell their family that they're going to die just as they're slowing freezing to death. EXCELLENT song. ATDI and TMV are two of my favorite bands ever. Cedric's lyrics never cease to amaze me. |
| The Mars Volta – Cassandra Geminni: Sarcophagi Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I like how Cedric sings it here better than when he sings it at the beginning of "Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus." Great guitar, too. Like the interpretation, antialles. |
| The Mars Volta – Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore: B. Pour Another Icepick Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I fuckin' love this song. The Mars Volta is one of the most amazing bands I've ever heard. I never really liked this song before, but now listening to it again, it's my favorite part of "Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore." | |
| The Mars Volta – L'Via L'Viaquez Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I fuckin' love this song. I think everybody's reading WAY too much into, especially anyone's who's tried to translate it and said, "Whoa, this totally doesn't make any sense." Like someone said before I believe, their ENGLISH lyrics don't always make sense, so why would their Spanish lyrics make sense? I mean, when was the last time you heard of Infra-recon forgetting something? Exactly. I think the "grammatical errors" aren't really grammatical errors. They were probably put there intentionally to say something that only the band may know, especially considering that a few of their band members are indeed hispanic. Why are we questioning? I absolutely LOVE the way Cedric sings, "Abre los ojos!" It just sounds so fucking amazing. The Mars Volta is an amazing band, and I absolutely can't WAIT for The Bedlam in Goliath. It's gonna kick our asses, boys. Get ready. |
| The Mars Volta – Viscera Eyes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Okay, back with a translation of sorts. Cartoonxviolence, you did a pretty good job, but there's just a few corrections: Por quando te vi enfermo con mentiras [when i saw you sick with lies] Este ladron cuenta se dio [this theif noticed] Trapa mal hecho de trampas [...badly made from traps] te lo juro que yo si te mato [i swear to you that i will kill you] Y con cada dia que se pase recuerdate [and with every day that passes remember] Quien era el mas poderoso [who was the most powerful] Hay mi hija no me llores [oh my daughter doesn't cry for me] Porque te quito de esta cruz [because i'll get you off of this cross] A noche te vi caminando [last night i saw you walking] Sin la alma de tu cuerpo [without the soul of your body] En los brasos [in the arms] sin luz [without light] The only corrections I really made were that it's not "done of traps," it's "made from traps," and the fact that since it's "ME llores," it means that "my daughter doesn't cry for ME." Also, there's a mistake in the actual lyrics. It isn't HUGE, but when you say, "Hay mi hija no me llores," you're saying, "There is my daughter she doesn't cry for me." That being so, it should be, "Ay, mi hija no me llores," since "hay" is a verb and "ay" is the correct interjection. As far as meaning to this song goes, I still have no idea... |
| A Perfect Circle – The Outsider Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I just listened to this song for the first time last night, never having even heard of APC, and I LOVE it. It fits just the way I am, and just the way I look at stupid people who say their life sucks, when they have NO idea. I've already gotten this album and Mer de Noms, and I'm lovin' 'em. Great band. |
| The Mars Volta – Drunkship of Lanterns Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song's fucking amazing. Just like TMV. I've only just recently gotten into them (my cousin introduced me to them about two months ago, then burned me all their stuff about three weeks ago), but I have to say, in the short time I've known about them, they've become one of my favorite bands of all time. Their lyrics are genious, if only because they're so fucking unorthodox...This song kind of epitomizes why I love them so much, in that kind of way that you can't find a word in the entire English language to describe it. Just when they open up with the syncopated guitar rhythm and, "No, nobody is heard." FANTASTIC. |
| The Mars Volta – Viscera Eyes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG. I've only known about TMV for a month and a half, and only got this album two days ago, but this is some of the best fucking music I'e ever heard. I've no idea in hell what this song means, but I'll work on it and get back to you all. Also, I'm working on a translation, but my Spanish/English dictionary is rather outdated, and I don't trust the internet, so... Amazing bass on here, by the way. |
| Staind – Yesterday Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song's AWESOME. It can mean whatever you want it to mean, but for me, it's me and my ex-girlfriend. She fucked me up somethin' fierce, dude. I guess I've sorta forgiven her, but still bitter. This song's all about how you've put your past away, but you still want what they did to you to come back and bite them in the ass. pressplay, I think it's just him talking to the person and trying to tell them that they have that affect on that people. They fucked him up, and they're going to do it to others. Aaron used a brother I think simply cuz it rhymed well internally with "wonder." Fantastic song. I love the opening drum beat. |
| Anberlin – Dismantle. Repair. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't really go for that outlook on it, but that's only cuz I'm not a huge Bible guy. I think it's about a girl. He tried to avoid her, avoid falling for her, because he had a bad feeling that it was gonna end up bad. But the orchestra played on and he fell for her anyway, and it ended up just like he thought it would. This song is TOTALLY my themesong. The "I am the patron saint of lost causes" verse is the heading on my ex-girlfriend's MySpace, and when I was on it after she dumped me about a month ago, I Googled the first line of that, thinking they might be Anberlin lyrics (her favorite band is Anberlin). She'd talked about Anberlin before, but I'd never listened to it. Then after Googling those lyrics, I discovered this song, and how AMAZING Anberlin is. This song basically describes the two of us perfectly, and it's helped me get through the ordeal more than anything else. Excellent song, excellent band. |
| Anberlin – Hello Alone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Yea, I'm not huge on the Bible and stuff, or God really, but this song is GREAT. Anberlin in GENERAL is KICKASS. I'm not sure of what the lyrics are, but whatever. Excellent band. | |
| Anberlin – (*Fin) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is...interesting. It's a great song, don't get me wrong, but I have to say, I never thought I'd be listening to Christian music, cuz I'm not...well, Christian, really. I don't disbelieve in God, I just...I'm kinda like Stephen actually. His response in that interview describes my views perfectly. I looked this up about twenty minutes ago randomly because Anberlin is my ex-girlfriend's favorite band. I'd never given them a listen before, and I was thinkin' 'bout her...looked up "patron saint of lost causes," after remembering something she'd said, and found this song. I'm not sure of all of what it means, other than of course the flat-out meaning with the St. Jude thing. I'm not well-versed in the Bible, but that sounds right, I believe. I'm still trying to figure out what it means to ME, though...perhaps she's MY patron saint of lost causes... Excellent song. He has a GREAT voice, and I love the guitar and the choir stuff goin' on in the middle. I think I may just pick up this album... |
| Lifehouse – Spin Lyrics | 18 years ago |
THANK YOU, ASTRORUNNER. You're the first person I agree with in this entire line of posts. It's NOT about God (personally I find it annoying when Christians try to connect everything to God, but hey, whatever floats your boat). I think he just god dumped, and he's just sorta pondering it. At the beginning of the song, he desperately wants to go back to the way things were, and for her to take him back. "I'd rather chase your shadow all my life Than be afraid of my own I'd rather be with you I'd rather not know Where I’ll be and be alone and convinced that I know..." It seems to me that she might have wanted to break it off for a while, and he sort of suspected it, but he wishes that he could just go back and be oblivious. Ignorance is bliss, basically. Go on with her and not know that she secretly doesn't want to. He's also wondering why he stays after this girl, after what she did to him. "When the world keeps spinning round My world’s upside down And I wouldn't change a thing I’ve got nothing else to lose I lost it all when I found you And I wouldn't change a thing No, you and I wouldn't change a thing..." He realizes now that it's not worth it. Sounds like, looking at the rest of the song, that the breakup was kind of rocky, and he wouldn't change a thing now, because he knows that the way it turned out is the way it should have. The line "I lost it all when I found you" suggests that he realizes that the whole thing was a lost cause from the get-go, and that he shouldn't worry about it. She's taken everything from him, though. "Everything I know has let me down So I will just let go Let you turn me inside out Because I know I'm not sure About anything But you wouldn't have it any other way When the world keeps spinning round My world’s upside down And I wouldn't change a thing I’ve got nothing else to lose I lost it all when I found you And I wouldn't change a thing No, you and I wouldn't change a thing..." She's killing him inside, but he's telling himself that he'll take it and be okay. He wouldn't change a thing. He's letting go, detaching himself. He doesn't want what happened to him to happen again, so he's putting up walls. "Spinning Turning Watching Burning All my life has found it's meaning Walking Crawling Climbing Falling All my life has found it's meaning..." The bridge here doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe he's still thinking about her, and going, "Wait! My life found meaning with her! Why dd it end up like this? Let me back!" Finally though, he comes back to the same conclusion: he wouldn't change a thing. Also, flala, that line can be interpreted many ways. I personally think that the word "you" is used in both sentences, so he's both saying "found you" and "you and I," but just useing one makes the song work rhythmically. That's not the first time an artist has done that. It's actually quite common. No matter how you interpret this song: getting together, breaking up, God (by the way, my earlier comment was not intended as a diss on you Christians, I was just putting forth my opinion), this is a KICK ASS SONG. |
| Matchbox Twenty – Shame Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Gabigs, I got the same thing goin' on with this song...I've never really had a "best" friend before, but I met this girl, and I swear to God she and I were...she was the best friend I'd ever had. She ended up really liking me a lot, and for months I knew I liked her too but I wouldn't admit it to anyone, even myself...when I finally decided to give it a shot with us two, I screwed us both over. We were never the same either. Fantastic song. I love the "Funny in a certain light, how we all look the same, and there's no one in life you can remember ever stood for you." It's sort of the idea that he knows that deep down, we're all the same with the same intentions, and it feels like those intentions are all against him. He feels he's best on his own, because he can't remember a time when anyone's ever really stood for him. The other reason I love this song is because it basically describes me to a "T." |
| Matchbox Twenty – Argue Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Same here, Gabigs. "So go on, wreck me Funny how I carry on, and not be taken over..." It's like he's trying to show her that he's fine on his own, and I like that, because it's the way I am. He's trying to prove her wrong, I guess. GREAT song. One thing about Rob Thomas is that he can write a song that barely rhymes at all, and somehow it just works. He's awesome. |
| Shinedown – Yer Majesty Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this is about a relationship (big surprise, eh?). Basically, she probably cheated on him or lied to him in someway, and it fucked her over. How, I don't know, but she got tangled up, and now she's crawling back to him asking for help. She's on her knees, begging him no less, but he won't hear it. "So you wanted to be free from everything you've done to me? And you wanted to be known so you wouldn't feel so alone? And you wanted to believe that you steal our integrity? And I'm sorry you're on your knees, but you can't blame me, yer majesty..." She wants him to forget about she did to him and pretend like it never happened, but he won't take it. And the last line, he calls her, "Yer Majesty," sort of in a mocking way, I think. Like she was so high and mighty when all that shit happened, but now she's nothing. "Let's take a moment I need to spoil who you are..." When she comes back to him, he takes a moment to remind her of what she did, or "spoil who you are." GREAT song. Shinedown kicks ASS. |
| Shinedown – Left Out Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It seems to me like he's left out, obviously, and he doesn't really belong anywhere, yet he's okay with that. "And tell me the one about the hand that holds you down Because you seem to be lost, with no intention to be found..." He's all alone, but he's fine with that, because he feels he's better on his own. I feel like this ALL the time. Right about now is one of them. Like you thought you had some real good buddies and a girlfriend, everything's great...then it's gone, but you're alright, because you know you're fine without them. |
| Tabitha's Secret – 3 A.M. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Dude, this is a Matchbox Twenty song! Well, I guess it's because Rob Thomas was originally part of Tabitha's Secret. Personally I've never listened to TS's version of the song, but MB20's is GREAT. I imagine they're probably about the same though. | |
| Shinedown – The Dream Lyrics | 18 years ago |
