I could be wrong about this, but I think the song is about our use and constant acceptance of modern technology and computer technology. Michael Romeo said Children of a faceless god refers to that of kids always stairing into their cellphones and texting away. I think this is a similar concept of how we all kind of use these things without question, and are sucked into it a bit. The bringer of light at night would obviously be electricity then causing light pollution in cities. How we are then losing a bit of our existance with nature. |

What an epic and powerful song. I did not realize the back story was actually this personal to Tuomas and the band |

What a wicked song. I love: "Look in the mirror. WHATS THAT YOU SEE??!! The shattered fortress. That once BURNED ME!" About 2 weeks till full album release, wish i could spare the cash for the box set. |

i used to listen to lb when i was younger and stuff. Listened to a few songs recently, they have some heavy stuff, that does seem to have some depth to the lyrics. Fred durst may be one of the most ego-singers ever, but this song, and a couple others are kinda nice. |

This song is quite amazing. Such deep lyrics behind it. The story in pt2 makes it one of my favourite albums, even though DT has much better songs then scenes from a memory (In my opinion). I guess I just cant ignore the brilliance behind it. Looking forward to their next album. |

Personally, I find it fairly unbiased. I didn't know sacrificed sons was meant to be neutral, as 9/11 was a tragedy all together. I think with this song, it's the same as the great debate, people see the viewpoint of the song the way they want to. |

The live at the Marquee version does sound nice. Havnet heard of the WDADRU version. Or these other versions, should look into it. |

Religion I think did play a part, but so did greed. Iraq did not have anything to do with 9/11 (or atleast not proven), that actually helped to backbone the US attacking Iraq.
But also, Labrie could be referring to other forms of faith as well as religion. Faith in the US troops, Canadian troops, in Afghanistan. That they will prevail and perhaps bring these countries out of a long war state. |

Could be about K Moore, didn't know he wrote this one. On score, the band said it was a bit of a suprise to them. I think they did notice Kevin's lack of interest |

Definatly one of my top 5, along with hells kitchen, this dying soul, under a glass moon, the whole scenes from a memory. It's so powerful, not the first song i heard from them, but was still one of the top. I interpreted it as a person's life, but that it would be about Portnoy's mother makes a lot of sense.
They write such intelligent lyrics and have some really powerful depth to their songs |

After watching the documentary on the dvd, petrucci does mention for Pt 1 to it being fictional based. For pt 2, he states about it being the obvious literal meaning, but also how we face our own evils.
I can see it being inspired by the comic, but based on it, that is hard to say for sure. |

Yeah, they are too smart for their own good when it comes to lyrics. I love the end of six degrees of inner turbulence. A Journey to Find the Answers Inside OUR ILLUSIVE MIND!. I also love part II of this song, amazing lyrics. From then on I love the lyrics. When I saw them last march, I couldnt hear James as much cause the crowd was signing every word. :) |
