City and Colour – Weightless Lyrics 14 years ago
I love hearing his progression from his old songs to new versions. He did it with "Sleeping Sickness" and now this remake of "Urgency." I think it's about sort of being tortured by someone you love...they mean so much to you and they hold "all the weight in my life," but they "turn and walk away." The relationship ends when he realizes he's being hurt and his heart is being "misled," but they're stil hurting each other. Brilliantly portrayed with his lyrics.

City and Colour – Little Hell Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is probably my favourite off Dallas' new album, the lyrics are just brilliant. It reminds me of "Sensible Heart," with how emotional, honest and simple sounding it is. To me it's about being in a relationship, but not being able to be there 100% for the other person and causing them problems...but they still stay with you. He doesn't mean to hurt the other person, but he does due to his "haunted past" and "addiction."

Also, the correct lyrics are "But my ADDICTION - it can be such a detriment." Does anyone know what his addiction could be? I don't think he's an alcoholic or anything, maybe it has to do with how he dwells on the past?

Last thing, I was wondering about this line, "If we could just hang a mirror on the bedroom wall, stare into the past, and forget it all." What exactly does hanging a mirror on the bedroom wall mean? How does it relate to the past?

Great Lake Swimmers – Stealing Tomorrow Lyrics 15 years ago
some lyrics are slightly incorrect...the 1st verse is "WHY can't I feel, mean without you?", the 3rd verse is, "And i built this WALL around me"...and the last verse is,

'Cause i can't be sober and win you over
And relate my temperature
I have to get out of here
And you don't even know half of it
I cannot turn it off, I don't have a switch for that
I haven't crash landed yet, haven't crash landed yet
Stealing tomorrow from today

This is one of my favourite songs, the sound and words are beautiful. I believe this song is about not being able to become close to anyone in a relationship and buliding walls to keep people out...and it's like no one can understand this problem or attempt to stay long enough to make the walls crumble. "Why can't I feel, mean without you?" is such a beautiful line, because this person can't ask his or herself why they cannot feel without someone else trying to make them feel...feeling is meaningless without someone.

City and Colour – Casey's Song Lyrics 17 years ago
Ya, Casey Baker (formerly of Sleeper Set Sail, currently of Casey Baker and the Buffalo Sinners) wrote this song. He couldn't sing it, so Dallas did and named it after him. I love when Dallas introduced this song once, he said something like "This song is about Mr. Baker." They're like bff's lol.

ps: Check out Casey Baker and the Buffalo Sinners if you like Dallas!

Yep, she's his girlfriend. She's even in the music video for this song.

Tokyo Police Club – The Harrowing Adventures of... Lyrics 17 years ago
LOVE this song. I've listened to the cd many times, but only recently started loving this song. I completely agree, the melody and sound is so pretty! And it is "And LET your blood in the dim moonlight" so warfish's point makes total sense.

"Two wrongs making right" and the other lyrics make it sound like a couple (obv) who start off great, like "captains discovering the seas together." But then stuff starts going wrong, and they fight...and it's hard to tell if she left him for someone else...or if they ended up back together...but either way he loves her "Cause I'm alright if you're alright."

City and Colour – The Death of Me Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is so personal and honest and just amazing. Clearly Dallas has a sleeping proble, he makes that evident in his other songs too.

"This is something I'll never contol. My nerves will be the death of me" IMO means his sleeping disorder which keeps him up all night is something he can't control. He thinks and worries to much at night since he can't sleep...he's depressed even? And thus, his nerves are bad...his emotions are making him mad...lack of sleep does that to you. So he questions whether to start drinking more, just so he can eventually pass out and get some sleep.

City and Colour – The Girl Lyrics 17 years ago
I was at the Roger's Picnic back in August...and before he played this sone, he dedicated it to his girlfrien (Leah) who was backstage...and it was her birthday...it was so sweet how we dedicated it to her. I don't care what people say (because I know some people don't like her with him), but if he can write a song like this for her, she must mean A LOT to him. And I think they're really cute together...opposites do attract I guess lol.

City and Colour – Sleeping Sickness Lyrics 17 years ago
There are a few mistakes with the lyrics, and I'm sorry if this sounds like, rude...but one wrong word can change the meaning of a lyric IMO.

"And I'm afraid to sleep because of what haunts me
Such as living with the UNCERTAINTY
THAT I'LL never find the words to say
Which would completely explain
Just how I'm breaking down"

I know, small diffs...but it changes the meaning a bit. I think Dallas is saying that he is afraid to sleep b/c of what haunts him...such as the uncertainty that he will never find how to completely explain how he is breaking down. So what itchyscott and Calligator said basically.

And it's "And I've become, a simple souvenir of someone's KILL" not guilt. What's a souvenir? Something you get to remember a trip or whatever. That's all he is now to someone, a souvenir...maybe after a failed relationship? Like in hunting, the deer head or whatever is your souvenir...that's what he is to someone now...kind of sad to feel that way.

City and Colour – As Much As I Ever Could Lyrics 17 years ago
I think that's it exactly - what everyone else said. Being apart from his loved one is hard from him...he is not where he belongs when he is not with her.

For me, the line "No I am not where I belong" is so much more. I know it probably isn't what Dallas means, but sometimes I feel that I am not where I belong...that I should be somehwere else, with someone else...living another life.

City and Colour – Sensible Heart Lyrics 17 years ago
The second verse is

"At times so self destructive
With no intent or MOTIVE
But behind this emotion
Is my sensible heart"

I feel there is a big difference between the line being "warning" and "motive"...That line is one of my favourites. IMO, I think it means that sometimes he acts self destructive - getting drunk? doing things that would be viewed as wrong or bad? Or like, just feeling depressed and sad for no real reason. There is no real intent or motive for doing whatever this self destructive act is, he just does it...but behind it all is his senseible heart, he just can't find it sometimes.

Panic! at the Disco – Northern Downpour Lyrics 17 years ago
In an interview, Ryan said:

"On the new album, I was really picky about Northern Downpour. It was the most meaningful song, and I wanted him (Brendon) to sound as if he wrote it."

He continues to say:

"It was about touring and girlfriends and love and everything that’s been important to us in the past few years. There’s a line in the song that goes, "I know the world’s a broken bone/ But melt your headaches, call it home.” I told Brendon to pay special attention to that line."

I still am not too sure what that last line really means. The world's a broken bone, and what do broken bones do? Heal. So, the world is messed up and broken, but is healing, we need to fix it. I'm not sure what "melt you headaches" means...maybe what you guys are saying about just accepting it as your home no matter how messed up it is.

It's "Legs of wood waves, waves of wooden legs" in the album lyric booklet. And it's "A daydream spills from my corked head..." not "gold head." That makes me further think of a toy soldier/nutcracker. Furthermore, first he says, "too small to talk to God," then "too smart to talk to God." That's a very intriguing line I must say.

Panic! at the Disco – Folkin' Around Lyrics 17 years ago
There are two songs on this album that Brendon wrote...the two shortest ones..this song and "I Have Friends In Holy Spaces." So obv it will be different, it's BRENDON'S song. He wanted to try something different. I think his voice works with the country sound. I agree with the whole "summer romance" thing, it's a very cute song.

Panic! at the Disco – I Have Friends In Holy Spaces Lyrics 17 years ago
I believe it goes:

"You remind me of a former love.
That I once knew.
And you carry A LITTLE PIECE with you."

and

"YEA, WE WERE splashing around, and the news spread all over town."

and

"I'm just saying that I'D LIKE it A LOT more than you think, if the sun would come out and sing with me."

This song totally reminds me of a singer from back in the day, like maybe Frank Sinatra? And just so everyne knows, Brendon is credited as the song writer for this one in the cd booklet thing.

I think it's about some girl he meets, but she's way into the "celebrity/famous" way of life and far too caught up in those matters like some of his other famous friends. Furthermore, he's relaized some of his friends aren't really his friends...they're all there for the "celebrity/famous" thing as well. He just wishes she could act herself ("Take a chance, take your shoes off, come dance in the rain.") and not be afriad of what everyone will think.

Panic! at the Disco – When the Day Met the Night Lyrics 17 years ago
I love how in Nine In The Afternoon it goes, "your eyes are the size of the moon" and then in this song the moon represents a girl "the sun" falls in love with. Clearly the moon = his girlfriend...at least IMO. And from this song, it seems that she saved him. PATD's older songs were definately not this happy sounding before, or love songs for that matter. Obv "the moon" changed his outlook on life maybe, or at least the way Ryan writes songs.

Also, another moon reference is in Northern Downpour..."Hey moon, please forget to fall down. Hey moon, don't you go down." That reminds me of how you don't want the night to end, therefore you don't want the moon to fall down (and the sun to rise). Or if the moon is a metaphor for the girl he loves it could be that he doesn't want her to leave.

Panic! at the Disco – Folkin' Around Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm not sure what cards have to do with this song in reply to the above comment...but...

In an interview Panic did (The Eight Days of Panic) they discuss Folkin Around. It is implied that Brendon wrote this song, and Ryan didn't get it at first (lol!). The first line, "Allow me to exaggerate a memory or two," and even the song title explain that all the other lyrics are cliche and meant to be a bit exaggerated. Brendon goes on to say that the song is "meant to be simple with words that are easily associated, and are very classic and nostalgic words." To me, it's like a little tale you listen to around the campfire about a past love or something, lol. Especially with the country feel. In essence, it's a short sweet song.

So, aparently reverie means "day dream" or "trance"...so when it goes "Reverie. It's useless searching in the cupboards when everything you have is on your back." (ps: he doesn't say "bombed reverire," it's just "reverie" if you listen) I think it implies the song is about a dream...like, what he's dreaming or imagining. This song is definately a puzzle...

Panic! at the Disco – She Had The World Lyrics 17 years ago
They lyrics are pretty good...the whole, she won the world at a carnival, but she could never win me...pretty awesome.

The sound is, uh...different, lol. I get the whole medieval sounding thing. Definately there. I love Ryan, in some other songs he sings well. But this song, well, the parts he sings solo just don't sound right. It's like he can't hold the note as long as it needs to held, and it isn't the righ pitch or something...like when he sings "thowing a line out to seeeeeeaaaaa"...ya, just hurts my ears a bit, but i still love him.

Panic! at the Disco – The Piano Knows Something I Don't Know Lyrics 17 years ago
This song starts off sounding like a Disney movie song, lol. And it has a very musical-esque feel to it...like it's part of a soundtrack or something. Then it kicks into a very musical style sound.

I LOVE "She’s the smoke, she’s dancing fancy pirouettes. Swan diving off of the deep end of my tragic cigarette." Some good lyrics in this one.

I think this song is about writing his lyrics and coming up with these songs. It's like,he singing these songs, but there's more to it. "The piano knows something I don't know."

Panic! at the Disco – Mad As Rabbits Lyrics 17 years ago
Haha, "does anyone fully get it?" I doubt it, lol. When I fist heard the title "Mad As Rabbits" I thought of Alice In Wonderland...but in Alice it's "As Mad As A Hatter"...but his friend the March Hare is also mad and kinda a rabbit, lol.

It sort of reminds me of some poor guy who travels around trying to make a living ("Now he drags down miles in America")...like a businessman from back in the 50's or something. But he has terrible luck...his clothes were stolen at the train station and so on. And he ends up with the wrong people ("Fell to a cheap crowd"). "But there ain't no sunshine in his song" just shows how sad his life is and after everything he's gone mad...reminds me of Death of a Salesman for some reason, lol.

Panic! at the Disco – Behind the Sea Lyrics 17 years ago
What was the alternative one like? And is he saying "small" or "smart?" B/c that makes a huge difference. And what is he singing at the end? It sounds like "waves are pulling waves" lol.

So, the first verse sounds like he is either a scarescrow, or a toy soldier (anyone remember that story?). And his head literally falls off into the water (or in the toy soldier's case, a pool of wax since he melts in the story). And he is the telling the story of what he sees while he is floating in the water.

And the whole "The men all played along to marching drums and boy did they have fun behind the sea. They sang, 'so our matching legs are marching clocks and we’re all too small to talk to God.'" totally reminds me of toy soldiers.

Not sure what the whole watermelon part is about though...

Maybe something to do with the paparazzi? "Sheepish Wolves. Looking lived in eating buttons, Wink, just don't put your teeth on me." The sheepish wolves are the photographers/media, and the whole teeth thing may have to do with smiling for the camreras. Then another idea I had was something to do with like, anorexia...the whole, "I wasn't born to be a skeleton" and "It's useless searching in the cupboards when everything you have is on your back." Sound like he's talking about food, lol...or how people try to "fit in" to the Hollywood life or something. I dunno, just ideas...but I'm not sure if it's Panic would write about.

Panic! at the Disco – Do You Know What I'm Seeing Lyrics 17 years ago
The whole album seems to have an "Alice In Wonderland" theme...like, the whole tea party thing, and rabbits ("Mad As Rabbits"), and everything. And I know Ryan is an Alice In Wonderland fan. In this song specifically, the "I know its sad that I never gave a damn about the weather and it never gave a damn about me" reminds me of the part in Alice In Wonderland where some bird creature is singing at sea "And I never ever ever do a thing about the weather, because the weather never ever does a thing for me!" Similar verse IMO.

omg, i love their lyrics! AMAZIG! This song could be about how when he drinks, he becomes someone else, and his mind takes over, like he's insanse or bipolar or something. And he loves this girl, but in the end he's going to kill her. And he's killed before. As well, it seems like he wants to get caught so he can stop (and i'll just wait until i get caught).

Boys Night Out – Hold On Tightly, Let Go Lightly Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is a love song...but the album "Make Yourself Sick" seems to follow a story about this guy hurting and killing girls who have hurt him, and who he loves or once loved. This song seems to be about fixing and changing that in a way...to me, it sounds like he's going to end the girl's pain by assisting her in killing herself. However, he helps her to feel better about herself first or something (regain her composure, reconstruct her heart), and she has helped him as well (So, with this kiss, I promise to never forget what you did for me). It's as if he changed after he helped her and she helped him (I felt the sun on my face for the first time, and tasted blood on my tongue for the last).
