Sensible Heart Lyrics
I get so get so distracted
By some peoples reactions
That I don't see my own faults
For what they are
For what they are
at times so self destructive
With no intent or motive
But behind this emotion
My sensible heart
My sensible heart
See I'm no king, I wear no crown
But desperate times they seem over now
But still I weaken somehow
And it tears me apart
It tears me apart
Well I hope to learn as time goes by
That I should trust what's deep inside
Burning bright, oh burning bright
My sensible heart
My sensible heart
My sensible heart
My sensible heart
By some peoples reactions
That I don't see my own faults
For what they are
For what they are
With no intent or motive
But behind this emotion
My sensible heart
My sensible heart
But desperate times they seem over now
But still I weaken somehow
And it tears me apart
It tears me apart
That I should trust what's deep inside
Burning bright, oh burning bright
My sensible heart
My sensible heart
My sensible heart

hmm. to me this song is about dallas realizing he's got this "self-destructive", emotional fault. probably meaning he drinks, does drugs, or harms himself in some other way, possibly mentally.
the first verse is focused around his initial blindness. he states that he's more worried about others, rather than taking him for himself. this means he's not taking enough time to recognize his flaws.
the second verse discusses his impulsive actions, negative actions. he's saying there's no rhyme or reason for them and they hurt him. despite this, he's feels he has enough common sense to guide him, a "sensible heart".
the third verse is stating how he's just the average man, and even when he's not in feeling low, sometimes he slips, probably because he's just used to it. the end, "it tears me apart", is his realization that he has these faults and they're only dragging him backwards, diminishing any progress he's made.
the fourth and final verse is acceptance. he's willing to make changes and whatnot. the only way he can do so is by following his instints.
there's my take on it. pretty general, but then again, i think this can apply to a lot of things.
this is actually the first song from city and colour i heard and i fell in love.
the first verse i interpret as that he sees the way people are or go about their lives or deal with situations or react to things. and dallas sees this and gets so caught up in how people wrongfully do things he doesnt see or realize he's maybe just as bad as they are. and the second part of the verse hes saying that he has a bad temper or hes somewhat of a time bomb at times but despite those flaws underneath it hes a sensible person and thats the person alot of people dont see.
the second verse i think hes saying that hes no king. basically saying hes not a person of great importance or with huge problems like a king might deal with. but despite not having to deal with those problems and just being a normal person he still weakens over small things and it really gets to him. the last part of the verse hes simply stating that he just hopes one day he can finally trust himself and whats inside him to finally let everyone see his true self.. his sensible heart i guess you can say.
i've only heard the live version of this but its fucking amazing
Dallas' voice gives me shivers....just amazing.
The C&C song period. Fucking amazing.
If anyone have the original version of this song (I only have the live one)...please contact me...
Studio version = rape. Sooooo good.
Correction. I believe its "with no intent or *motive."

i just love the title of this song. its almost like the happy medium of choosing between your head and heart. a sensible heart will make both ur head and heart happy. i don't know. thats my take on it anyways
