The Harrowing Adventures of... Lyrics

The harrowing adventures of
You and I when we were captains of
Submarines made of steel

Discovering the seven seas
Fending off the giants of the deep
Pendants from hanging teeth

Your ghost did you wrong
When he wiped your spit on the tablecloth
I am here to fight
And light your blood in the dim moonlight
Two wrongs making right

The harrowing adventures of
You and I before our eyes lay on
Shadows cast in the night

Led me to your old home
Set the tables for two alone
Pass the salt, pour the wine
Cause I'm alright if you're alright

i LOVE this song. it's sad, but beautiful.

anyways, i'm pretty sure it's 'spear' and not 'spit', only because that makes much more sense with with the adventuresome nature and blood references in the song.

So, the line two wrongs make him right. I think that means like when someone's a stupid jackass, but then you're a stupid jackass back then you're no better. And it's definitely spit, not spear. The fact that it's more out there than spear makes it make more sense that it would be in this song, because that's how TPC rolls lol. But isn't it "let your blood in the dim moonlight," not light? Letting blood is what they used to do to people who were sick, because it was supposed to get rid of all the diseased blood. Needless to say it actually helped people die not get better

LOVE this song. I've listened to the cd many times, but only recently started loving this song. I completely agree, the melody and sound is so pretty! And it is "And LET your blood in the dim moonlight" so warfish's point makes total sense.

"Two wrongs making right" and the other lyrics make it sound like a couple (obv) who start off great, like "captains discovering the seas together." But then stuff starts going wrong, and they fight...and it's hard to tell if she left him for someone else...or if they ended up back together...but either way he loves her "Cause I'm alright if you're alright."

I think it might actually be the start of a new relationship after two people were wronged in their last ones. "your ghost did you wrong" could be that she got cheated on or hurt by her ex somehow and then him fighting for her and his wrongs or hurt from another relationship could be mended together in this new one to make it right.

Then the last stanza about the dinner and how she is showing him her old home like one often does when starting a new relationship, you start with the past to learn about...

I doubt that this is about two lovers or anything like that because the song is childish, in a sense. The first two stanzas are a child's imagination. The beginning music with the xylophone or w/e keyboard instrument is almost certainly meant to sound like a lullaby, and the entire song is pretty soft.

I think the song is about someone seeing a childhood friend losing his/her childish innocence. The friend is doing something morally wrong or perhaps just becoming more aware of the reality of the world in contrast to the previous wonders of imagination (whatever you can make of the third stanza), as he/she grows up.

In the end, the speaker wants to take the friend back before the loss of his/her childhood innocence (let me to your old home) and isolate them together so they can just go back to their "harrowing adventures" with one another, oblivious the pressures of the outside world like they used to be.

if your gonna talk about the maturity, then im gonna say BULL: the way these guys fuck up conventional rhythm in this song suggests something way more mature then two kids skipping in the flowers. The dark cello sounds more or less evil, and that bass percussion cancells out any chilish innocence those xylophones might conjure. maybe that works with your next point, that its about the lose of innocence?

Well, harrowing, from a dictionary definition, is "extremely disturbing or distressing", so take that for what you will.

But I agree that this song is beautiful. I ripped the video of Dave playing this acoustic for The Interface on Youtube so I watch it all the time, and it's just so incredible. Each line is beautiful and sad. I love this song and I love this band.
