Miranda Lambert – Dear Diamond Lyrics 13 years ago
This is how I always took the last verse (which kind of conflicts with the way you've already interpreted it, but perhaps we can meet some middle ground and actually figure it out?):

I always looked at it the opposite you do, as far as the have/hold. I always pictured that when she says that "some people you have," those are the ones that stick with you, the ones you marry and carry throughout your life, etc., whereas the "people you hold" are the ones that are temporary. I look at it more like this - and I'll compare it to something simple, completely unrelated - you can have your own... hairdryer. And it's yours. Or, you can borrow somebody else's - you can hold onto your friend's hairdryer.. But eventually you're going to let go of it. (That's probably the stupidest comparison I've ever made, but hopefully it got my train of thought across.)
So then, having that idea in mind - that the people you have are the ones that are with you permanently, by your side through it all, etc... and the people you hold are more temporary and such... We go on to the next couple of lines.
"Dear diamond, I promise to keep / This secret I have while he's holding me."
That part is important, I think, because it says a lot about her and how she sees herself and her infidelity. She's saying that while the man she cheated with was somebody she only held, the fact that he is now a secret means that she will always have him - he will always be there with her, always be there in between her and her husband, will always be weighing on her mind somewhere in the background. She can pretend it never happened but that doesn't mean she'll ever be able to forget it or stop feeling guilty about it. And so her husband is "holding" her - he's holding on to her and he thinks that he has her, but she's the kind of person you hold, not the kind of person you have. (Which, could possibly be just because of the secret that she has. It would separate them, I imagine, in a way that he's not aware of but in a way that she'd be way too aware of..)
I'm not too sure about the importance of "with your band of gold," either, but I'm thinking it's just to show that even though she's not the person to be 'had,' she is now, anyways - the band of gold is just another thing holding on to her, maybe? I don't know. Hehe.
Maybe that makes sense, maybe it doesn't, maybe you think I'm right, maybe you're more right than I am - I'm not sure... But anyways, there's my two cents.

Toby Keith – American Ride Lyrics 16 years ago
Uhm, yeah, it was founded as a Christian country. Pilgrims wanted to be worship God they wanted to, so they came here. Quite a few of the people who accepted contracts to come here with the first settlements came for the religious freedoms. Even those who didn't come primarily for religious freedom were Christian before they came here; that was the major religion in England, or rather the /only/ allowed religion in England. We started off a Christian country.

I love this song, too. It makes me want to cry nearly every time I hear it. As for the meaning, I agree with Ihatehatehaters.

Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution – Here's To Life Lyrics 17 years ago
Or, in a way, sort of like Holden Caulfield, no?

Camus was fully opposed to suicide, so the first bit of the song I think is more... Lighthearted than the other parts, y'know?

I think Salinger is viewed as the "strongest" of the five mentioned, as he is the only one who is still alive and was able to deal with the pressures of being famous -- he disappeared, leaving behind one of the best books even in today's society, almost completely avoiding the media. He said all he needed to say, I think, in that one novel, no matter how much we want him to say more.

I dunno; I just think that Salinger is being viewed as the smarter of them all, as he didn't kill himself physically -- though, to some people, he will be thought of as 'dead'.

Bleeding Through – Tragedy of Empty Streets Lyrics 17 years ago
I think I agree with Mudsown the most, it does seem like someone who tries to live up to expectations. Maybe not even with parents, though; I always got the feeling it was from someone like maybe a friend, you know? Someone who they aren't romantically involved with or related to but can still hurt them, maybe more than a parent or a girl/boy friend can. But, I dunno, that's just my take.

Bleeding Through – Murder By Numbers Lyrics 17 years ago
Personally, I don't think it's literally talking about murder... Maybe revenge, or a death within their own mind?

Like, somebody, as Dylan617 said, could've cheated on him, or something like that. Betrayed him, maybe. And he feels like that no matter how much he needs them, they always leave. So he's taking his revenge, or hurting them in a way that makes them "scream", without actually killing them.

But either way, I love this song.

Rise Against – The Approaching Curve Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't think it's a break-up song, either. It's not for me, anyway. To me it's more about people who keep their true emotions to themselves, and act all happy and perfect no matter what. And while they do this it's like they're drowning inside, from the tears they cry in silence, when they're alone/the tears they don't let themself cry, whichever. And it ends up being their downfall.

In the song, the girl has the wheel, which to me means that the guy has finally opened up about something (and it also says that he was shouting confessions, lol) and she's deciding for the both of them that it's not really worth it. That she's had enough, and it seems like he has too, so that's it. An impulse decision, maybe, but it's.. an emotional time, so she just does it anyway.

Hah. There's my view. ^_^

Personally, though, this song is no where near my favorite. The talking parts absolutely /bug/ me. I can't stand it, but I love the chorus so much. That one chorus is one of my favorite parts in all of their songs.

Thousand Foot Krutch – Faith, Love And Happiness Lyrics 17 years ago
Yeah, I think it's about peer pressure and how people will be your friends, then not talk to you for a while and completely ignore you -- then come right back and expect you to just be there, you know?

It's a great song though,

I agree with pyrokinesis -- I'm going through something really similiar to this song right now. I try to help, I talk to her, but she never seems to listen.

Needless to say, even though it's somewhat older, this is one of my favorite songs of the moment.

Don't think so, but I may be wrong. It's on YouTube though, maybe you should ask one of them where they got it? I think it's another song that came out when Three Days Grace was still Groundswell.

Oh, and it came out before they were Three Days Grace. Still Groundswell -- it was never actually on a cd, I don't think.

Yeah, it's by them. If you listen to the song (on YouTube, is where I heard it) you can tell it's Adam Gontier's voice.

Snow Patrol – The Only Noise Lyrics 19 years ago
Maybe, it's about a guy who loves a woman and becomes obsessed with her ("i only thought of me and now you're all i see") though he knew that he shouldn't ("delighted in my best mistake"). He doesn't want to love her ("shake me out of this take me out of this") but he can't help it.
Anyone else got any opinions?

Me neither.

Maybe it's about ignorance -- how ignorance and not knowing something might actually be bliss. If you don't know what it is, it won't hurt you.

I'd need to hear the actual song to make a better... translation though.

I agree with akasia. She wouldn't notice, maybe not until whatever happened this time happens again, and then she'll start to miss him.

He likes a girl, but doesn't know how to talk to her. She's probably one of those vain, stuck-up girls, who are disgusted by the... odd, nerdy guys. And maybe, when he talks near her, he sounds like one of the odd guys, talking nonsense, like you see on tv alot. xD That's my guess.

Three Days Grace – In Front Of Me Lyrics 19 years ago
Though both of your opinions make sense, I think that it's about the guy wondering about his purpose in life ("there's a great old time for you to wonder why you are here") and where he's going ("to greet a day when I can see two feet in front of me"). There are parts that I don't really get, but maybe "can't stay forever I know it" means that he knows that he can't stay on Earth for as long as he wants. And maybe, "it's not resolving in all these words" means that, he can speak and think about it, but he still doesn't get his purpose in life. "To be free of life if we can stand out in the rain" might mean that when he's in the rain, it's like nothing else is there.

I could take the time to figure out everything else, but my idea seems a bit far-fetched with the lyrics as it is, so I'll just leave you (and myself) to ponder that for a while, hehe.

Three Days Grace – Are You Ready? Lyrics 19 years ago
Alright, I'm gonna give this a go. If it sucks, sorry.

"You'd said we'd never get this far
You said your words, we've played our parts"

Like Tineke, I think someone was lying to them all along, but with the first line it kinda clouds it up a bit. But, I think that first line was basically about how the liar, or the other person in the song, had told them (the singer) something about how they'd fail, but then the singer actually suceeded, though all the while the other person had none that the singer would get there, and only used it as a challenge to get the singer where they, the other person, wanted.

"So, you think you know how this story goes
Are you ready for this?"

I think, in this part, the singer is trying to prove something, or turn the tables on the other person.

"I thought you'd never come this far
I thought your words meant something more"

I think this part just means that the singer never thought that the other person would go so far just to get what they wanted, and how the singer actually believed what they had said.

Okay, so I left out the other parts of the song because, in my opinion, they were really easy to figure out. Anyway, that's all, and if it's wrong, then sorry. I did the best I could.

Three Days Grace – Born Like This Lyrics 19 years ago
My opinion (and I'm probably wrong) is that they were born like that, that was the way they were brought into the world and they can't change who they are. They've already accepted the fact that who they are is who they are, and though they've tried to change themselves, who they truly are always shines through.

Just taking a guess. I think it's a good song, though.
