Tragedy of Empty Streets Lyrics

Now buildings are starting to fall
Bricks beginning to break
Your steps are leaving cracks in the sidewalks
Leaving trails of empty streets

And I'm going blind from staring at your eyes
Because they release the fire of a thousand suns
But I've grown so numb I can barely shed a tear
Even if you cut the strings that hold my head up

You're pulling teeth
Ripping flesh so you can lick the blood from your fingers
So break these bones taste my skin
Let my death sing the end of it

So you can do no more damage
So you collect no more trophies

Let me be the last
Let no one feel how I feel

This tragedy began with me
So let it end with me

From your hell I've become this numb
I wish this pain on no one

Behind your smile
Beneath your lungs
I hope your darkness comes

This tragedy began with me
So let it end with me

I tried to be what you wanted me to be
And I'm sorry that I can never be perfect for you
But everytime I look in the the mirror
I see your eyes staring right back at me
And I dont want it anymore

I hope you're fucking happy

...and to add on to my previous comment:

"I tried to be what you wanted me to be And I'm sorry that I can never be perfect for you But everytime I look in the the mirror I see your eyes staring right back at me And I dont want it anymore"

Despite all the abuse this person is casueing them they're still madly in love with them adn they hate it.

I think this song is more about feeling like you never lived up to what your parents wanted you to be.

Sure it could be about a bad relationship, but I think there's enough evidence in the song to show it's more talking to parents than like an ex.

"But every time I look in the mirror I see your eyes staring right back at me And I don't want it anymore"

this shows it is probably a parent because we end up with traits our parents had (in this case, similar eyes).

I think I agree with Mudsown the most, it does seem like someone who tries to live up to expectations. Maybe not even with parents, though; I always got the feeling it was from someone like maybe a friend, you know? Someone who they aren't romantically involved with or related to but can still hurt them, maybe more than a parent or a girl/boy friend can. But, I dunno, that's just my take.

Brandan's voice in this song reminds me of Henry Rollins!
