I was looking at the photograph "The Falling Man," a photo of a man falling to his death to escape the 9/11 attacks, when this began to play.
I feel like it captured the moment perfectly. |

I think of a teacher living her life and going to school and she is so stuck on someone she loves and is probably fighting with that it segues awkwardly into her school life. Maybe she's in love with a student and they've had a fight. I think of Notes on a Scandal. |

I think 7daysatsea has it right.
This can't be a woman who is too caring, because of the line "And I'm gonna tell my son to join a circus so that death is cheap and games are just another way of life."
She is already foreseeing her son's death as cheap and saying that life is game.
Perhaps the conception of the son was not pleasant, the idea of a child is not comforting. |

"But when I start to feel that pull
Turns out I just pulled myself"
He starts to think that she's coming onto him, or that they have some kind of chemistry, but in the end it's not there, it's just a subconscious invention of his. But with "pulled myself" I just think of him jacking it. When he starts to feel the pull, she won't do anything for him, so he's got to pull at himself. Equivocation is so my favorite. Go Rivers. |

"Oh, Davey, why did you leave me
All alone when we went all the way?"
The whole song, but especially those lyrics, remind me of the 50's. It cracks me up, but in a good way. I love Rilo Kiley. <333 |

P!ATD has become... good. Still not amazing, but the Beatlesque element is very nice, and their lyrics are very good, which is so the opposite of how they were before. Looks like Panic grew up from whiny emo eyeliner boys and turned into a real band. Good job. |

I love Weezer, but this song is so weak. I really can't stand to listen to it, I mean if it's on, ok, but seriously? Not going to say, "Wow guys, let's play Beverly Hills." You know someone isn't a Weezer fan if they say THIS is their favorite tune. |

I feel like she is saying that she runs and strays to keep him coming back to her out of the fear of losing her. She wants to believe they stilllove each other, so they dothings tokeep them coming back out of habit.
The first line of the song reminds me of a failing marriage, how they would rather read books than talk, or make love. |

also, i see the cardinal hitting the window as a metaphor for running into something that one did not see--such as the boy's sudden frustration toward God. |

this song strikes me as the thoughts of someone who loves God but has anger toward him, obviously because of the loss of his friend.
earlier in the comments, someone mentioned how they don't understand the comparison between the two fathers. i see it as a statement of the anger toward God, how the girl's father proved he was sorry, while God, the Father, "takes and He takes and He takes."
i see the "complications" being that the last thing either of the people (i see them as best friends) need is to fall in love when she is terminally ill. i also think that maybe he realizes that if she gives into temptation (kissing him on the mouth) she will not get into Heaven, yet another complication.
most of the song conveys a confusion and an anger toward God's actions and the longing to give into temptation, which i see happening, as the father finds out and the girl is scared for herself and for her friend.
the recurring image of "shirt tucked in and shoes untied" to me shows the beginnings of something, shoes coming off in anticipation of more clothing being removed (temptation) but the fact that their shirts are still tucked in shows that for one reason or another (faith, her father, her illness), they become afraid and frustrated and go no further.
the entire song is so beautiful, so intimate; i feel like an intruder listening to it, like it is something i shouldn't know. gorgeous. |

to me, this is about a friendship (or any relationship) where the boy does everything he can, even if it costs him, because he loves a girl with so much pride that she says she doesn't want him around. but really, she needs the help. |

this reminds me so much of falling in love, especially your first love, in high school, where you're driving around to secret places and playing videogames to pass the time.
only downside? bad associations with the name "adam" |

to me, it's the story of a long distance relationship, but more stalker-like than anything ("i read the pages about me/in her autobiography")
when i perform the song i actually twist the meaning and replace "love" "lost" and "miss" with "hate" and it nearly fits both points of view in a situation i was once in. . . |
