Sister Hazel – This Kind of Love Lyrics 18 years ago
I recently talked to a friend about how so little music these days speaks to those moments in life when things are actually going well in a relationship. Here is a song which, though simplistic and full of cliches, seems to convey unqualified and sincere happiness.

Sister Hazel – Tear By Tear Lyrics 18 years ago
Yes, the message is about empathy for those in need; yet the song also praises those who take responsibility for their own happiness. So there seem to be two ways we can reduce "pain" in our society. Those who have it need to not give up. And those who can should feel obligated to let those in pain know that they aren't alone.

Sister Hazel – Where Do You Go? Lyrics 18 years ago
I found a new most depressing song...
Only thing that salvages this song is that it emphasizes trying to "find a way to make it through..." The line about finding a "line that's in the sand" means that the singer wants to figure out whether the impasse in the relationship is someone's fault or just a product of his imagination. Perhaps there's an explanation he hadn't yet thought of. But in typical Sister Hazel fashion, honesty compels him to admit that the answer is probably no.

Līve – Run Away Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about those nights when you feel like "love has had its day and it's way" with you. You don't give a damn about anything, but you also know there's no victory in the pain you feel. In the "desert" of relationships, the nights are always cold. In the darkness, you hope you can lose yourself such that it might be possible to start over. But then comes the bridge of the song; Ed proposes that the only real way to get through these situations is to center yourself (spiritually). You've got to consider how every painful memory from the past arises into the present moment and then falls into the future. No matter how much you say you "don't care," meditation on this simple theme of the dependent origination of all moments can guide you through the "desert" -- whatever that may be.

Līve – Love Shines (A Song for My Daughters About God) Lyrics 19 years ago
Yes, this song is Ed's simple way of expressing faith and spirituality. The lyrics echo his sentiments in his earlier song "Heaven," where he sings "I don't need no proof when it comes to God and truth..." The only thing that bothers me is that the Buddha didn't really teach the "world about love" in the same way that Jesus did. The Buddhist approach to freedom of the heart is radically different than the Christian approach and this song seems to muddle the two philosophies. But not really... still a great song that affirms the value of spirituality

Better Than Ezra – Hollow Lyrics 19 years ago
The irony of "all my rage..." set against such an upbeat melody creates a lot of tension. You can really hear the bitterness throughout the song. Reminds me of "The Kids Aren't Alright" by the Offspring.
